GunRoar - New updated list

Post by G-zeiger »

Since the previous Gunroar Thread was not updated in a long while, i've created a second one with a nice, neat, list. The three modes are put separately.

Normal mode
  1. blip - 21,268,387
  2. WarpZone - 10,880,842
  3. shiftace - 10,427,597
  4. Shatterhand - 8,596,076
  5. freddiebamboo - 8,178,181
  6. alpha5099 - 6,641,295
  7. Leviathean - 5,794,746
  8. gs68 - 5,737,139
  9. G-Zeiger - 5,584,818
  10. SFKhoa - 4,568,792
  11. rib - 3,935,247
  12. BrianC - 3,326,378
  13. Danny - 1,713,667

Twin stick mode
  1. stfiend - 34,137,037
  2. norfenstein - 29,925,504
  3. Spoon - 29,621,984
  4. WarpZone- 15,488,848
  5. G-Zeiger - 14,137,296
  6. Monkey_man - 6,326,542
  7. BrianC - 3,358,736

Double play mode
  1. shiftace - 12,169,073
  2. stfiend - 5,561,860
  3. gs68 - 1,435,395

Notes
  • The multiplier increases the difficulty level (amount of enemies and their fire power) but determines the point value of the boss. A high multiplier will make for a very difficult boss battle, but can give you several million points.
  • You can increase the multiplier by going faster (go up on the screen) and by destroying turrets (not sure about this, but seems true)
  • If you destroy an enemy (aim at the red core), all its currently mid-flight bullets will transform into green bonus items which you collect automatically. Their point value seems to scale according to the multiplier. These give you bonus points, but upon closer inspection they do NOT contribute to the multiplier.
  • The math for the "starting" multiplier seems to go like this : once you die, your current multiplier is divided by 10 and added to number X. You start the next life with a multiplier equal to X. So for example, if you die the first time at 137X, you will start at 13.7X. Then if you die at 84X, you will start your next life at 22.1X. I am unsure if your multiplier is added once you defeat a boss; if anyone can verify this, please correct me.
  • The slowdowns are intentional. The game starts losing framerate if the computer is too slow, resulting in chopy visual. You do not gain any advantage when using a slow computer, since it is much harder to play when the framerate is low. On the other hand, if you want to make your life HARDER, then you can use the secret option -nowait. This disables slowdowns completely. Good for practice, as well as certain satanic rituals... ( if you don't know how to use command line options, well... you're probably not hardcore enough to want to disable slowdowns anyway :P )

29,925,504 - Twin Stick

Gah, so close. One-lifed three bosses and then realized how far I'd gotten. Finished on the fourth with a stupid mistake.

Damn, I hate it, when I stop playing a game because of a lack of challenge and then somebody beats me and I have to get used to the game again... :(

[EDIT]: 29.621.984 now I'm pissed.

Greetings, all. So are there any other scoreboards you guys know of, or is this the highest Gunroar score in the English-speaking world at the moment? =^)

Finally have a Gunroar score worth writing in:

Normal: 3,118,596

Better than Danny...and I'm going after BrianC next.

Still a long way from 21 million, though.[/b]

Oh that's so it Mister... gonna have to beat you now! :D

(OK please note I've not play this game much in a while so I'm a little rusty!)

... oh yeah and thanks for telling me about the -nowait command, always wondered why the game slowed down on my perfectly able machine for no apreant reason lol.

Don't do it Danny! 'Cuz then I'll have to spend all my time playing Gunroar -- or some other shmup -- so that I can post here & not be last on a high-score list. And then I won't have time to talk to my wife, take care of my young daughter, or do work at my job.

Do you really want to force me to get divorced, lose custody of my kid, and become unemployed? I didn't think so. So let me have my pathetic little bit of glory here....

Had some Gunroar mouse mode for breakfast…here’s the result:

17.897.720

It’s incredible there’s so much you have to do simultaneously, like dodging incoming bullets while aiming and deciding whether to rush forward or hide behind an island. At the same time all the particle effects make me lose the exact location of my crosshair. Sometimes I really wish the crosshair would stand out somehow…maybe with a red glow effect or something.
Well, anyway…awaiting your hiscore, mrMagenta

Found a mouse.. and because of the way bullets look in gunroar it's completely playabe even om my 11inch screen.

i don't mind the crosshair i just aim looking at my stream of bullets. i'm mostly using the concetrated fire.

new record

mouse mode
23.326.413

Wow! Something cool happend...I had an argument with my sister, got fucking mad and started playing Gunroar to let off some steam...rushing forward kamikazestyle like a madman and getting a 283 multiplier on the first level!
Final result: 38.804.171 on mouse mode

Now i feel much better

I uploaded the replayfile to "yousendit.com" in case that somebody wants to check it out. Just rename the file to "last.rpl" and put it in your replay folder.
Hope it works...

Thanks for the kind comment about my replay. I've played all of Kenta Cho's games and man this is definitely my favourite. Right after Tumiki Fighters which I'm sure I'm going to one credit...someday.
Btw I find the widespreadshot very helpful when it comes to clearing the screen of those pesky little boats that are shooting the green bullets. I just do a quick circlemovement with the mouse and gone they are. Very handy especially in the later levels.

My high score for mouse mode is 7,823,938.

If I had 2 analog sticks or a good PS2-to-USB adapter I'd play Twin Stick.

EDIT 10/31: Happy Halloween! I just set a new record: 13,270,551. Looks like the Force was with me, because I dressed as a Jedi
