Any Good Arcade-Style Racing Games on the 360?
Well, I need something else to play besides shmups and fighters (and Tetris) and i'm in the market for some good racing games.
I absolutely hate simulation racers and don't have the patience to wanna fuck around with what tires and alternators to put on my shit, just wanna run that bitch as fast as possible. The last "fun" racing game I enjoyed not called F-Zero GX was Burnout: Takedown for the xbox. I played the hell out of that game even though I ended up selling it along with my old xbox to get some PS2 Cave ports.
Are there any good non car-porn-fanatic racing games out this gen that are on the level of Burnout?
Must have destructable cars, blazing fast speed, simple racing mechanics, and quick to get into (don't wanna have to waste time fucking around in menus and shit-my only real gripe about the Burnout games).

Try Outrun Online Arcade on XBLA, you should be able to try the demo.

Re: Any Good Arcade-Style Racing Games on the 360?
Thanks, dannnnn, haven't played Outrun in a long time, time to get back into it I guess.
I'm looking at Blur right now.
That game looks fun as hell, might pick it up tonight if its region-free.
Any other recommendations?
Anyone play Fatal Inertia?
I had high hopes for that game, but from my initial experience, it feels ssssssssssssllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww as fucccccccccccccccc and clunky as hell. Did any of the dev's actually play this shit after they made it? Maybe I was spoiled by Burnout and F-Zero GX, but this has to be one of the slowest, clumsiest racing games i've ever played.

It looks good (really, really good)......I like the idea of dodging obstacles while racing. I just wish uploaders would actually show footage of the speed potential for this game. Everyone seems to insist on showing their car going at avg. speed in a race. Like I said, Burnout and F-Zero GX probably spoiled me as those games seemed to have a very clear sense of speed, even when watching replays.brentsg wrote:Split/Second was underrated.

If you liked Burnout give Need for Speed : Hot Pursuit a shot. It wasn't even on my radar but I played it at a friends house I was sold. Very arcadey and alot of fun. If you enjoyed Burnout I think you will dig it.
Sega Rally Revo is all right also. Outrun on xbox live is a no-brainer win also.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
Re: Any Good Arcade-Style Racing Games on the 360?
Hydro Thunder Hurricane on XBLA is excellent. I got it when it was on sale for $10 but it's well worth the other $5. Great sense of velocity and plenty of modes.
That is Galactic Dancing

Split/Second is a love it or hate it. I love it, a lot of people hate it. There's a demo available on XBL, so give it a go.
Outrun Online Arcade is a steal for the price. Heart Attack mode is especially addictive, giving you all sorts of arcade-style objectives to fulfill on the road.

Not this gen (it does, however, support prog-scan and widescreen), but I couldn't recommend Jak X for the PS2 enough. It's so cheap you can't go wrong with it anyway. I mean it. Speed porn without attatchment to moto-reality whatsoever. Looks and sounds fabulous too (old Naughty Dog cheese is still there, but easy to ignore). INCREDIBLY underrated game for what it does.Never_Scurred wrote:Are there any good non car-porn-fanatic racing games out this gen that are on the level of Burnout?
WARNING
Don't play Jak X with a memory card plugged in. Autosave might corrupt it for good. Just plug it in when you want to load or save, then pull it out.

If you don;t mind that fact that it's hard as nails then Ridge Racer 6 is a possibility.
Burnout Paradise is great too and so is Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, both by Criterion and both fast as hell.

Highly enjoyed Fuel myself , but it's a bit more off road-y.
Shift is great too. Not tried Shift 2 yet.
Best racer (arcade or not) this gen is Wipout Fury (PS3) - absolute brilliance. Wipeout HD is good, but Fury just takes it to a different level. Insane stuff.

Re: Any Good Arcade-Style Racing Games on the 360?
Xbox1/360 has AFAIK no real arcade racers except for 3 Out Runs: 2, 2006 and online.
If you want arcade style racing (and I too hate car fine tuning get a ps2 for:
Battle Gear 2
Battle Gear 3
You will not regret it. check youtube for vids.
You can play these games forever. You can progress, but they are hard to unlock all the cars.

The Rallisports games aren't exactly arcade racers but neither are they hardcore racersXbox1/360 has AFAIK no real arcade racers except for 3 Out Runs: 2, 2006 and online.
Quantum Redshift on Xbox1 was badly structured but heh, i enjoyed it.
Quite enjoy both, add in Shox - excellent arcade racer a la Sega Rally. If you want arcade style racing (and I too hate car fine tuning get a ps2 for:

Re: Any Good Arcade-Style Racing Games on the 360?
You should get Outrun Online Arcade because it's great and because it'll be removed from XBLA this December. Get it before it happens and you can play it afterwards no problem.
Also, SEGA Rally Online Arcade will be released on XBLA on the 27th, so that's something to look forward to.

No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Split/Second was a lot of fun. As was Flatout Ultimate Carnage.
If you like top down racing games, Wrecked should be out soon on XBLA. It's by the developers of Mashed, so it should turn out good.

Re: Any Good Arcade-Style Racing Games on the 360?
Fuel is a nice game but I wouldn't recommend it if you want Burnout-like gameplay. Fuel is more about free-roaming in huge areas and off-road racing with different kind of vehicles rather than blazing-fast racing with destructible cars.dcharlie wrote:Highly enjoyed Fuel myself , but it's a bit more off road-y.

The Shift series, while not simulators, they have a big deal of simulation in them. If you try going through a corner at high speed you'll end up on the wall. I'd avoid them if I were you.
Split/Second and NFS: Hot Pursuit seems exactly what you're looking for.

Depends on what you mean by "new", but Import Tuner Challenge on 360 is Tokyo Xtreme Racer with a different name. Came out in 2006, though.ArmoredCore wrote:i wish their was a new tokyo extreme racer/wangan midnight for ps3/360 :/, so addicting lol. loves TXR 3/zero on ps2
