Guilty Gear X2 for PC released on GOG

...can Raiden 3 or Shikigami No Shiro 2 be far behind?
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

GG X2 and Isuka got released on cover CDs with Polish games mags by a publisher doing all sorts of deals with CD Projekt (de facto GOG). Never heard about any other PC port of a coin-op game released by either CD Projekt or Bauer. Having said that, if any publisher stays in touch with PC gamers' desires, it's GOG.

Well this is redundant. I've been playing GGXX#R online for quite some time now. They would have to give it GGPO level netcode for me to be interested in buying again.

Can anyone say if this version will work with the online patches? I'd only really want to get it if I could play online with a friend.

I'll only be interested in this if the story mode/quotes have been properly translated into English, because the English story patch on that one Russian Guilty Gear site (name and address escapes me) just plain sucked. The text ran off the screen many of times making it not so legible.

Also, while GOG is no developer and I can't fault them on this, I have to say I'm kinda disappointed that they're releasing GGXX even though its mileage ran out years ago. Everyone's moved on to Accent Core Plus by now. Again, I'll consider buying GGXX if GOG somehow managed to get a proper translation into the game because I never really gave Story Mode a chance and I would kinda like to.

Smart people stuck with Slash~
Also, story mode is a very unreliable way of learning about the plot of Guilty Gear. You're going to have to go by the drama CD's unless you're fine with strictly meta-crap.

I'm curious what would make you say this?

AC is well respected as the most balanced version.

80% of the matches seem to be momentum based. It's quite uncommon to see a really close and intense match nowadays. I blame this on forcebreaks and extra FRC's; you don't need as much tension as you did before to be able to do the more crazy shit. Throw teching and slashbacking were pointless additions that didn't really change anything. Throw techs usually happen by accident, and slashbacking is entirely situational. Also, I hate some of the changes made to the characters. For example, Axl's Bomber loop. That has been there since he got that move! it's iconic by now!
However, I will not deny that some of the changes brought good things. Anji's overhead butterfly from #R was a clever use of the new forcebreak system, but that does not excuse stupid ones like Potemkin's and Dizzy's, which does something they could already do before, but at the cost of 25% tension which doesn't make any sense. Slash was perfect IMO. It cut back on all the bullshit in #R without becoming watered down or boring either.

I think Slash was good. My character I-No did more damage in those days but AC is just more refined.

Throw break is obviously not useless. I guess so only at low levels at play. At high levels you should be able to read a throw and tech it.

The game has always been momentum based. I've seen tons of comebacks though.

speaking of, i've always liked this match.

No rhyme or reason why? I'd love to hear your side of the debate.

I didn't say throw techs were useless, I said they were pointless meaning their existence didn't make any impact. When going back to the older GG's, the lack of throw techs is the least of your problems.

This isn't true at all.

This match was not won through momentum, nor some crazy comeback, just good use of the fundamentals you'd find in an average Street Fighter match. (pacing, footsies, zoning)

For the record, both the PS2 and the Wii versions of Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus run full speed in PCSX2 and Dolphin even on weak PCs.

On a related note, European GG fans might be interested in this.

I purchased this the other day. Didn't try it with a stick, but it was a pain in the ass to navigate to the options screen. Mapping your keys is strange, too--everything shows as PlayStation controller buttons instead of the letters on your keyboard, heh. Can't help but mention the game looks like ass on a 22" widescreen monitor (I know, I know.. I just wish there was an option to raise the resolution, haha). I've still yet to plug in my arcade stick and see if it works. Anyways.. It's neat GOG brought it over, but it seems to be a pretty lazy port to me. People are better off picking up the PS2 or XBOX versions unless they are absolutely desperate, especially since the US versions can be had for the same price.

You don't know what I would give for Shikigami on GOG.

(Although I already own all three on PC, I'd still support it.)

What a miserable time to be broke. I would totally be willing to buy Accident Core again for those insane bonuses.

They should absolutely bring over some modern-day shmups. All they have are Raptor and Tyrian.

... AC enjoyed the overwhelming support of the GG tournament community. I strongly suspect that ChainsawGuitarSP is just hating.

EDIT 2 - Fuck it. Let the "smart people" enjoy their happy healthy Slash scene.

Not hating AC, just a personal preference is all. And if you're so convinced that AC is the best, then why not try playing some of the older versions for comparison? I bet you haven't. :V

I *did* play Slash - it's what got me into the series. Furthermore, I didn't like AC much at first - it was only over time that I came to appreciate the new FRC windows and hit properties.

AC granted characters more defensive and movement options and had better compressed tiers. The only problem I have with AC - other than the fact that I can't play it online w/GGPO quality netcode - is that Bridget and Johnny are kinda boring compared to their Slash versions and deserve better damage output.

Meanwhile, Order Sol, Slayer, Eddie and Robo Ky had serious flaws in Slash - our resident Slayer player refused to even play Slash - and Slash Sol and Ky were just plain ridiculous, even dumber than AC May. Ky and Sol are a *lot* more fun to watch in AC, and there's nothing wrong with their damage output.

Throw breaks are awesome. I wish they worked that way in BlazBlue. I wish a *lot* of things about BlazBlue tho, so I'm not gonna go there.

I was lucky enough to have access to a strong GG scene out here in Arizona. There was a solid core of 6 experienced players for me to learn from - many of whom had been playing the game since before #R - supplemented by an equal number of motivated noobs like myself.

I've spent hundreds of hours playing with them at regular hosting sessions, I've traveled with them to tournaments in Nevada and California. I trust their judgment completely, and the general consensus regarding which versions of Guilty Gear were the best is:

AC > #R > Slash > earlier versions of Guilty Gear

... and their judgment seems to be shared by the greater proportion of the Dustloop community.

What the fuck? Slayer was fine in Slash. Eddie was the only one who took a hit and it was for the better. Your Slayer player is a bitch for not even trying to re-learn him without silly loops. And Slash Ky wasn't nearly as ridiculous as other characters that have been S tier before; the worst you get from him is lvl 5 Stun Edges. And either way, I would much rather take robust versions of Sol & Ky over Eddie & Testament bullshit. And I main Testament. I think that's saying a lot when I refuse to play a character that practically gives you free wins.

Mostly he was sore that Slayer couldn't spend most of the round completely invulnerable like he could in #R. He's endured his share of ribbing for it, tho.

Anyhow. I hope you and your fellow smart people enjoy your Slash as much as I enjoyed playing AC with all the people I've played with over the years.
