I had assumed that I would need to kill the beetle to search through the weeds. I didn't find the torch until near the very end - I was amused when my light went out in the well, because I wasn't aware that I had one :P
I realized that while writing the game. That's why I said your "light" went out rather than your "torch". It was to create some ambiguity in this instance. But yeah, you're right. It doesn't really make sense.

Although, it is necessary to awaken the beetle if you want to get all the treasures...

Yeah, I'm still looking for that last one.

I'm going to cave and ask for a hint about how to break that wall in the first room

The wall in the first room is a red herring. You can't break it. It's just there to fuck with you. But the treasure you are missing is found in the courtyard room (I'm pretty sure), so you are on the right track.

Played it, enjoyed it a lot. I finished with all 15 treasures and ranked as "adventurer", too, woohoo. Took me a while to find the throne room.

It's really a nice game. The atmosphere is great and the descriptions are spot on, as mentioned. I especially loved the numerous red herrings. Some of them really threw me off. The only thing I'd wish for is a splash of colour, although the monochrome graphics are quite charming. Would you consider remaking them in fake-Spectrum style? You could even add in some faux attribute clash. :)

Oh, and I found the last boss a bit anticlimactic. Could you maybe drop some hints earlier in the game, that it's him who keeps you from leaving the castle? The first time I killed him I was quite surprised to see the game end.
