Is Mushihimesama Futari still available on Xbox 360 (1.5)?

Post by Axmann »

Hi everyone. I'm new here. My first introduction to the wonderful world of shmups was Touhou 7: Perfect Cherry Blossom. I know, I know. ("OH DEAR LORD A TOUHOU KID! PLAY A REAL SHMUP!") lol, just playing.

Anyway, I have found some real enjoyment in other shmups too, and I like the genre in general.

My recent interest has been Mushihimesama Futari. I know it's available on Xbox Live Marketplace, but when I search for it, all I see is the Black Label version of it... Wasn't there a 1.5 version that was available on Xbox 360 as well?

I ask because I'm fairly new to shmups in general and I don't want to buy a radically hard shmup that I'll just end up putting down.

I thought 1.5 included some easier modes than the original (black label) did?

Can anyone help shed some light on this situation?

Thanks!

Its the Black-label DLC (downloadable content) for Mushi Futari that is available to buy. You must already own the game to use this.

Mushi Futari has now been re-released as a 'platinum' (budget) game. You can buy it from here : http://www.play-asia.com/Mushihimesama_ ... -3yu5.html

It is region-free so can be played on any Xbox360.

Mushihimesama Futari for the 360 was released at retail, so you would need to get an actual copy of the game. Play-Asia has the platinum release of the title avaliable.

http://www.play-asia.com/Mushihimesama_ ... -3yu5.html

The Black Label DLC can be bought afterwards with microsoft points. You'll need the Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 disc to be able to play the DLC.

History lesson:

The original game was Mushihimesama Futari 1.0, for the arcades. This was eventually upgraded to 1.5 which is the game everyone knows. Later, there was a Black Label for the arcades that changed <things>. Apparently, each mode in Black Label is easier than ("rebalanced from"?) in 1.5.

1.5 was eventually ported to the Xbox 360 as a retail product, along with new arrange modes. Black Label was released as DLC for this product. There was a code that came with pre-orders/first-prints (?) so you could play a fixed-up version of 1.0 labelled 1.01.

You can always post a "WTB" thread in the marketplace here. Good luck on your venture.

Assuming you're in the US, shipping from Play-Asia isn't expensive at all. If you take the air mail shipping option (which usually gets to me in about a week), you should be able to get Futari for less than $40 if you get the platinum release linked above.

If you're playing it for survival alone, Black Label is easier on every mode. If played for score, it's on par or even harder than respective 1.5 modes depending on how far you want to push it.

Futari is probably my favorite shmup and the X360 port I've spent the most time with. Black Label DLC is also absolutely worth every penny. You'll have a blast with it.

Did you check NCS? They ship out of NYC via UPS so it's incredibly simple for US customers.

Isn't BL like 1200MSP? That's quite a lot for an extra mode of a game, where I already love the 1.5 mode too much to spend time playing anything else (even though a lower difficulty is a good selling point to me)

Not one mode, three modes. Guwange also has three modes for 800 MSP and it has yet to receive 1/10 of the play time I've already sinked into Futari BL. :) God mode alone is worth it.

Guwange is a completely different game though.

Also there's no chance I'll ever touch God Mode :)

Well, my point is if it's fun, it's worth it. Try 1.5 first: if you find it fun, then it's very likely you'll like BL as well, as it's more scoring-friendly (there's a sound chime when you need to change shots in Original, and there's more room for large-gem canceling in Maniac and God compared to 1.5 Maniac) and some questionable things were abolished (character type distinction and a nearly impossible mode to clear that is Ultra). 1.5 is more challenging from pure survival standpoint, but I prefer scoring in BL due to better scaling and higher upper limit... and more gems everywhere!

Hell, by this point Futari BL has already received more play time than Ketsui, which cost me a lot more at the time. Not complaining, though, as both are great titles to own anyway.

I prefer Black Label to 1.5 in every way. I thought 1.5 was the perfect shooter, but upon playing Black Label I realized that I was wrong.

Agreed 100%

I got the DLC and figured I would take a look at BL once I had played 1.5 more. Once I did try BL, it took over :D I have spent a lot of time playing BL now . . still not mastered stage 3 though *facepalm

Well worth the 1200 points.

I intentionally waited over a year after getting 1.5 to download Black Label. Doing this completely revived my interest in the game. I think it's best to invest significant time into 1.5 first, that way when you do make the transition to BL your skills will be sharp enough to really utilize the extra scoring opportunities.

I could only beat 1.5 Original mode, maniac was just slightly out of my reach, but I cleared Black Label Original and Maniac with only a little practice. God mode is also amazing, although I had to set extra extends as frequent as possible to get far.

So yeah, don't rush into Black Label if you want to make the most of this brilliant game, it's more enjoyable once you can focus on score over survival.

That actually is surprising that it's only 40 or so from playasia.

40 is still a bit on the "ehh" side for me though.

Could I find a used copy anywhere for $10-$20 or perhaps even $30 with shipping included?

Loosing sleep over the difference of saving $10... I guess if you are a kid who gets a $2/week allowance I understand, otherwise that's like an hour of work.

To answer your question though, I did recently score myself a minty used standard edition copy for $35 shipped, but that is likely the lowest it would go for.

Some people have tight money situations where they have to worry about every cent, no need to judge.

That being said, Futari Black Label is definitely in my contention for best game of all time.

I dont know if the earthquake in Japan has anything to do with it but both MMP! & PS and Futari always seem to be out of stock this past few weeks. Luckly last week ive been able to secure both copies from PA for myself. While I dont know about MMP & PS but Futari PE has been out for quite a while now with and might be getting to the last dregs of stock. And when it finally does ebay prices will probably take a hike as everybody who has a spare copy cons themselves and those buying that they have a new Radient Silvergun in their hands

It could turn out like Ibara which is impossible to get these days for <200 bucks.
Lol, glad I got my copy when I did.

Yeah, I failed big on that one. :(

Anyway, TC, if you don't think the game is worth more than $20, you're probably on the wrong site.
