Cumulative score. A good Advanced Mode run or two should get you there!

JSS & CS are both soo good. Can't say I really know what is going on with CS though. Each stage has a different scoring mechanic and I haven't figured out them all yet.

JSS on the other hand I understand and thoroughly enjoy. Not that I'm all that good at it since I can't get farther than Area 12 or so, but it's still a blast.

Is it me or are the control options in CS broken? :?

I set my controls like this: (X) Forward shot, (Y) Wide shot, (RB) Shield.

But it end up coming out like this: (X) Wide shot, (A) Shield, (Y) Shield

If you are playing with a standard pad, I think the original mapping as on the WSC version will be X=wide, Y=forward, A=shield ;)

Is this the default configuration? I don't have my copy yet so I cannot verify that nor your trouble setting a custom configuration...

Yeah, that's the one confusing me too: most of the others are pretty cut and dry (kill lots of stuff, get lots of items, don't die, etc.), but I've got no idea what's up with the "scanning" thing.
Is it me or are the control options in CS broken?
They seemed to work as I set them, for me...

Maybe it has to do with killing/damaging enemies using your shield?

I wouldn't think so - something or other makes "No. XX" messages pop up next to enemies at certain points (no idea what the "numbers" refer to), and whatever it is is the key. I managed to get around 60 percent "scanned" without defeating anything with the shield, so I doubt that's it...

It seems to count paterns as they pass your ship. I was experimenting by letting enemies fire more patterns before i killed them but it still allways ends up between 50 and 60 percent. I can get an A or higher in every section except that one and the one where you have to keep killing enemies when ur guage is at 100. Ive played many runs of this now and i still cant beat the mirror boss. Its driving me nuts! lol
That part where the grey, spinning paddle looking things keeps raping my life stock and i lose my last life on one of the upcoming patterns.

You also get a popup for erasing a bullet in that pattern (or each type of bullet?) with your shield. I'm over 70% now but still...

The one where you have to kill the enemies at 100x is easy to A, just use your shield to ram them when they come on screen, then use the narrow shot on the pattern that always comes in from above you and circles around no matter how high up the screen you are.

The rank you get on each sin affects what the 7 small mirror shields drop in the first part of the final area. If you need extra lives for the final boss, try to clear stages with B rank, since that will make them drop 1ups.

My copy just landed in my hands. I'm so glad there's plenty of positive response to this release.

('Sadly' a copy of a certain forthcoming Valve game I'm committed to writing about is also due at my door today, so no Eschatos for me until the weekend :( )

I'm itching to get involve in Eschatos while we're all still working out how it all works...

Yeah, I think scanning is just completely deleting bullets with your shield. Not sure if you have to do it with enemies.

But man, this game is a BLAST. Eschatos Original seems pretty tame, but I'm enjoying advanced a good deal. Not sure how well the mechanics will hold up to high scoring, but we'll see. Been spending most of my time with JSS and CS though, they're just so damned awesome :O I'm terrible at Cardinal Sins, but I did manage to get to the extra gauntlet once. Seems like there's some sort of in-game rank, which is hella cool.

Eschatos has the worst art direction ever though, holy moly :p

I actually like the art in Eschatos.

And I think Original mode is a ton of fun and very easy to just pick up and play.

How many modes/games/difficult settings are there exacty? I'm considering getting this but know very little about it. Hearing good things about Cardinal Sins and JSS has made my ears perk up quite a bit, plus soundtrack means ALOT to me. Thanks.

Eschatos has Original (with Easy, Normal, Hard, Hardest), Advanced (same as Original), and Time Attack (haven't tried it yet). JSS and CS have Easy/Normal/Hard, I'm pretty sure. It's definitely a good variety!

I think I'm going to give Advanced mode another try tonight and see if I can't get the scoring to click. Or try to get through Areas 1-5 of Original without screwing my multiplier. Or play CS some more. So many choices!

I have to say, my only real disappointment with this game so far is that the packaged OST doesn't include the boss track :(

Pretty much everything in this game feels ace to me.

How do the Wonderswan games hold up graphically on the larger screen? Are just a straight port or have they been enhanced in any ways?

They look fine. They haven't been enhanced in any way, except that they allow you to turn off sprite flicker. Even so, they don't look jarringly ugly or anything. Just your standard 8-bit sprites, with some neat looking bosses every once in a while. IMO they're well worth the package alone; they're both very well-made games.

For me it's the loading between area sections. Yeah, the load times are mercifully short and other games are probably just hiding theirs behind score tally screens, but that doesn't make it any less jarring when everything freezes up for a second or two.

...and I just remembered that you can install games to the HDD. Anyone know if that helps?

I have it installed. The load times are super short, but still present.

AmiAmi just allowed orders for this again and, as I didn't get around to placing an order the first time, I would like to order it now. Will the soundtrack come with new orders, or was that just for the first run?

Sounds good, thanks. I'll definitely have to check this game out when I get some time.

Only the first print was supposed to have the soundtrack CD. But who knows maybe they'll decide to include it again.

I seriously doubt the first printing has sold out. First shipments, yeah. NCS is still advertising the soundtrack for their restock coming up.

Any tips for JSS/CS? Are there any parts of JSS I should be using the shield to attack enemies? How does the damage compare between narrow shot, point-blank wide shot and shield? Is the key to getting a higher scan percentage in CS just killing the enemies quicker (or do I need to delay on a particular enemy to see all of it's patterns)?

I haven't even been playing Eschatos, just these two.

I gave Eschatos a try yesterday. Actually, I just wanted to take a quick look, fired up original mode on easy... And played for about 1 and a half hours, not noticing how fast time was flying by. A very good sign, hehehe.

What can I say? I'm actually digging the simplistic graphics, they have a very nice old-schoolish flair combined with nice 3D-graphics. The controls feel spot on and those formations remind me (in a good and retro-way) of the times of galaga and therelike. And the music... Wow, I love it, the music is very suiting for this game, and actually quite catchy.

So far it's a lot of fun, it has a very good "feel" that makes me want to come back for more. And I haven't even touched JSS and CS. I think I'll concentrate on Eschatos itself atm, going for pure survival for the beginning.

Yeah, I'm glad I chose this game over bullet soul. :-D

You have to kill enemies and delete a bullet of each type with your shield
