OK, so I'm not a newb, but I'm completely ill-informed on this topic. I don't want to junk up other threads, so maybe my question will be answered quickly and we can lock this--or who knows--maybe my dumb thread will be a lesson to others.
Anyway, I have a PS3 but I understand there are some shmups on XBLA. I don't want to import a Japanese 360. Are there enough shmup titles on XBLA to make picking up a cheap 360 worth it?
Can anyone humor me and list the awesomeness on XBLA that all us ps3 owners are missing?
Thanks for the handholding

Eugenics: you know it's right!
Most of the great shooters available on 360 are available on retail disc only. A lot of these are japan only, but some of the best (Futari, Espgaluda II, Deathsmiles, Muchi Muchi Pork + Pink Sweets) will work on your American 360. You'll be missing out on stuff like Ketsui, Deathsmiles IIX, Dodonpachi Daioujou and Daifukkatsu 1.5, and Daifukkatsu Black Label.
If you're only buying your 360 for scrolling shooters, I'd recommend importing a Japanese one. If they're just part of the draw, then by all means get an American one.
There are some good shooting games on XBLA though, such as Geometry Wars 2, Ikaruga, and Guwange. Just know that the best games are retail disc only.
ED: There's also Hard Corps Uprising and a bunch of indie games (but those require being hooked up to the internet to play). Can't think of anything else atm.
Hmmm. My PC recently fried and I have been wondering the same thing myself. Of the 3 consoles I would say the Xbox360 has all the best shmups by far. The japanese 360 way overpowers the wii and ps3.
I just don't know though... The way PCs get more and more powerful year after year it won't be long before a well built PC can emulate xbox 360 really well. Some could probably do it now. My PC wasn't top notch and could run up to dreamcast flawlessly (well REALLY WELL! lol).
If I were you I wouldn't get a 360 because i have had multiple roommates that had them and they broke down to the point of being unusable multiple times. You have to ship it back to microsoft and you can only do that multiple times before they tell you to take a hike. I had to fix my friends a few times with thermal paste but they still didn't last long. That said I have heard the new slim xbox 360 is much more solid but again i dont have experience with any but the old model and i would not invest in those :/
But if youre set on getting a console Xbox 360 (J or USA) is the way to go. Personally I would just take the cash to upgrade my PC but that's just me!
EDIT: The 360 controller is great! I use the 360 wired for almost all my pc games and love it. It is hard to take apart and when I got it it was very sticky from poor care so cleaning was a biatch. But compared to the other controllers... Way superior.
