Top Shmups on Japanese PS1 Store

Post by legendnthamaking »

Hello, everyone. I just wanna say I've been a long time follower of the site but recently joined. I just purchased a 5000 Yen Japanese PSN card and a Hori VLX Premium. I'm looking for some good shooters to spend my card on, preferably, arcade ones, to play with the stick. Any recommendations of the top 6 or 8 I should buy?

Zanac X Zanac. Not arcade, but awesome nevertheless.

Dodonpachi is a given.

Where did you get a point card?

If you get it, make sure to play Zanac Special Version AND EXPERIMENT WITH HOLDING THE THIRD BUTTON. It's not all about Zanac Neo.
Also, Sonic Wings Special (it's in the US store as well). Preferably in tate mode.

Japan Video Games. They don't email you the code but ship the card. Its free shipping though.

I purchased about 6 shooters (7 if you count Ghouls N Ghosts :D)

DoDonPachi
G-Darius
Raystorm
Shienryu
Space Invaders
Gradius

Im impressed with how DoDonPachi turned out. It feels faster than the arcade though.
My TV plus Hori VLX=Almost like having a arcade in your home.

In The Hunt? Didn't some of the guys who went on to make Metal Slug make that game?

Don't take that personally, just pointing out the PS3's iffy emulation. I couldn't even play DDP on my set up because of it.

Which Gradius is on PSN? It's been a long time since I last turned on my Wipeout HD box.

These lists are kind of depressing since I picked up quite a few of them within the past few years in disc format. (Zanac in particular was rather spendy).

But yea, I would agree that the extra lag is an absolute deal-breaker for me. It should not be dismissed; it really is THAT BAD. I bought the PSN version of R-Types and found it completely unplayable. So maybe grabbing all those discs wasn't such a bad idea after all.

Ah, sweet. I've yet to try any of my PS1 downloads on PSP.
Though, the lag is indeed god awful when played on PS3, so i stuck with just replaying some old RPGs on it.

Say, does that lag include the BC ps3s as well? I suppose it would, but who knows... I'd like to luck out, I guess.

Yes. Every PS3 has shotty BC.

It has lagged (since launch day) by about 2 frames, or 33.3+ milliseconds. It happens because the PS3's video processor buffers two frames for "image enhancement". Sony will never fix it and stopped caring about BC a long time ago anyway.

Only workaround is to keep that PS2.

What exactly does BC mean? I haven't read this abreviation before.

Does anybody know if we will see some new PS1-shmups as downloads in the near future
in the japanese P3-Store.

The latest downloads in the PC-engine-section were Galaga88 and Aldynes , the last one for
the PS1 ( at least the one I remember ) was Xanac´x´Xanac.

I hope to see Harmuful Park as download, maybe the Toaplan Shooting Collection, In the Hunt,
some Parodius-, Salamander or Gradius-Titles from Konami, Stahlfeder, Raiden DX and others.

Super Darius 2, Sylphia, Spriggan, Saphire, Magical Chase are some titles I hope to see one day
in the P3-Store or the ( european ) Virtual-Console-Store.
