Ok, so I finally got my Saturn USB pads in the mail (yay!) I immediately installed Joy2Key and went to trying to play some Touhou! I set the keys with the auto-set option and punched in the corresponding keyboard commands. Much to my chagrin I found that the keys I'd thought I'd bound didn't work the way I expected them to! For some reason, no matter where I set "Z" it auto-binds to Button A and "X" auto-binds to Button B. Am I doing something wrong? I wanted to set Button A to "Shift" and Button B to "Z" and button C to "X" but it doesn't seem to want to let me do that. It'd also be nice to bind the start button but I'm not sure that's possible....is it?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Does the pad not work with Touhou without Joy2Key? If the pad isn't going to send movement inputs on the x/y axis (as opposed to the POV hat) you're going to find yourself extremely annoyed with Joy2Key and Touhou (as well as damn near every doujin game ever made).
Other than that, you should just bind the keys manually. It isn't hard.

I'm dumb. I didn't realize that all of these games appear to be manually bindable in their config menus. I just assumed they wouldn't autodetecdt a joypad. Yeesh. Got the touhou games and a few other goodies goin like gangbusters now! Very cool!

Most of the games (I think PoFV is the exception) don't allow you to rebind the keys on the keyboard, just the gamepad.maxlords wrote:I didn't realize that all of these games appear to be manually bindable in their config menus.
Touhou and practically every doujin game ever made won't read the POV hat for input. So if you're using something like a MadCatz TE stick with Microsoft's drivers (which is why I have XBCD installed for my stick), you're shit out of luck. The adapter I use for my Classic Controller Pro defaults to having the D-Pad work as the POV hat, but you can change it to send input as the X/Y axis even without installing any extra software.
Another thing that's common with doujin games (like Hellsinker) is that they have a high chance of letting you change your key binds with an external program. If the option isn't available in-game, that is something to look out for.
