It's just so much fun, especially when people around me don't understand why I do it.

-Something I've done since I was a kid: When I'm intensely focused, I tend to chew on the neck of my shirts. I've cut down on this tremendously, but I still catch myself doing it sometimes.
-Restartitis.
-I don't blink much during stages. I blame years of DDR for this. In other news, I'm fucking awesome at staring contests.
-When I used to smoke, I'd pop out for one after beating a particularly challenging section like I just got laid or something.
-I'm always very tense and unmoving while I'm playing. I don't fidget... I'm also not relaxed at ALL which kills my performance I think. I don't talk much (if at all). I don't even yell or swear very often when I die (again, something I used to do a lot when younger that I've just mellowed out about).

I guess that's it. Damn I'm boring compared to some of you guys.

I really need to snap out of that last one. I broke a couple 360 cases last night and it's only a matter of time before something significant breaks.

When I'm really in the zone and focused I'll start humming, often without realizing it. Used to do that all the time when I would game as a kid, caught myself doing it when I was playing Mega Man 9 in our apartment in college, roommates starting going crazy trying to figure out what the noise was. I generally only do it when I'm alone. I tend to do it more if it's a game I like and can really get into.

I also tend to tense up in fairly uncomfortable positions, and move as little as possible. If I change my position it usually throws off my game. Then again some games I'll have got up and come back, and will spend the entire credit making little adjustments to my playing position to try and get back to the same posture I was in before getting up. This may have come from my thousands of hours playing beatmania 2dx.

I sit cross-legged on the floor, hunched over, with an arcade stick in front of me (not on my lap).

Between stages I take a sip of beer or coffee, or light a plant on fire and inhale the smoke.

I try to eat something really spicy before a shmup session, or during a break. It might all be in my head, but I think the adrenaline from the burn makes me play better, or at least gets me into the zone sooner.

I got another to add. I always seem to want to perfect the first two stages of any game, even though they really contribute to maybe like 10% of the total game score. Just for whatever reason, I absolutely fine tune those stages.
