Akuma/Gouki symbol meaning

Can anyone give a definitive answer for this? I've googled it and came with 'sky/heaven', but also 'hell' quite fancy it as a tattoo but id really like to be sure what it means first.....

It means "sky/heaven." For example the word for weather is "tenki" (sky spirit/energy.) Never heard of it meaning hell, as far as I know that's "jigoku" or "heru" (but there's no kanji for that.)

EDIT: Oh yeah, it's pronounced "ten" by itself BTW.

天 means sky/heaven. I don't know why they changed Gouki's name to Akuma. Then again, it's stupid that they changed Vega's name to Bison too.

But please, do not become yet another douchebag with a kanji tattoo who can't even read kanji. There are too many of those wandering around. The fact that you had to ask a video gaming forum what it means before getting it permanently printed on your skin is reason enough for you to not get that tattoo! Think about it! ...Unless you are just starved for attention and crave being ridiculed by smug, condescending jerks like myself. no ive no issues, and have no tattoos either! have always said if i found something id want to stay with me forever then id do it. I thought the symbol on akuma's back could fit that bill especially since the concept of heaven fits with my christian beliefs

Correct, though the kanji on the right is not used independently, and the two do not have a valid meaning when used in that combination.

(Oddly, they are pronounced identically to the word for "afflicted part", which is a valid description of any body part that you would consider getting such an embarassing tattoo on.)

They would be used independently in decorative instances (such as what the images suggest). Take/Bu, anyway. Kan, would be kinda goofy like dat.

Glad that meme finally got explained. Sorry, I couldn't be bothered to read what happened to the guy's jewel case. I mean, really, I run (or ran) a music label. I don't know what to do with the jewel cases I have. At this point I plan on melting down all the CD's I couldn't sell into a giant plastic coffin for myself!
