Your biggest final boss moments (was biggest TLB moments)

Post by tinotormed »

The first time I ever fought a TLB was on PatriotDark. I know, I was playing Hard mode with 2 players because this is a very insane one. I kept struggling to defeat this insane true last boss with a few lives in stock, and I did it. I've won against this insane guy, plus he has shields to defend himself on the last phase.

If you've got a final boss story of your own, be it a regular last boss or a true last boss, feel free to post it here!

EDIT: 4/4/2011 This thread is now named "You biggest final boss moments" due to popular demand!

I really enjoyed the final boss of Crimson Clover for the first time due to the sheer exhilaration getting past its first form, then i beat the second form on my last life, which is standard fare for final bosses so I thought Ild beaten the game, then the boss came back with a 3rd form which totally caught me off guard making it such a joy to fight and beat, the fact i was on my last life made it so much better.

I expect I wasnt the only person to be caught of guard, hehehe Yotsubane I salute you! :)

As im not a good enough of a shmupper to encounter real tlb like the 2nd loop Habachi, although ive still had fun times when ive beaten the standard last bosses like Recca, DDP stage 6 boss or Gradius Nes (joke) but I dont class those as real TLB for me they need to be like Hibachi which is an extra boss at the end of the game specially there for 1CCers, It doesnt have to be a shmup with loops in though, As the single loop doujin shmup Blue Wish Resurrection has a TLB which you can only fight by 1CCing Hell mode

hehe yea, the best true last boss is the one you don't expect.

Contra 3 on SNES. I thought I finished the game on hard with my last life. I wasn't even holding the controller anymore and was busy trash-talking the screen. And then the thing comes back and ganks me.

Unfortunately these days, if a game has a TLB I hear about it way before I ever reach it.

Just had one last night, actually, playing Armed Police Batrider. I found out which stage order gives the somewhat easier final boss, so I used that one and sure enough made it to the final boss. I beat him on my last life, and was beginning to celebrate when another boss appeared and started firing at me. Fortunately, I had one bomb in stock so I used that to save the death and then managed to 1-life the battle, achieving my first Batrider 1CC.

Edit: I agree about Crimzon Clover, too. Beating the final boss, then the TLB, only to realize that there's a second TLB was quite exhilerating.

Meet Homura's TLB was one of biggest moments to me. He was just wonderful, that cool colorful patterns,... impossible to beat it.
After all I am very proud from that because did a god seems a shit.

Thunderforce IV, oh god Thunderforce IV...

It was late and I had school tomorrow, yet here I was on the last stage of the game at 1:00....almost about to score a 1CC!..First form pops up, and I nail both sides (remarking about an shamefully easy fight) getting ready for the hay. Of course, being a finalboss, he had a second form...

Which climbs up the shaft and rips me a new one by bouncing it's weakpoint all over the the screen...After that I tore back into it with Railgun, hoping it would die off like a TF III boss..His response? Crushing me against the wall.

To add insult to injury, the moment the gameover tune rolled in, my mother entered the room!

The Highway stage bosses don't constitute the true final boss of Batrider, fortunately (unfortunately?). That honor goes to Discharge, and he's... mean.

BTW, you triggered an extra boss in Highway by getting either a Special Option or Special Shot powerup. That's done by dropping 3 powerups of one type and picking up the fourth.

I bombed the XTB-1 like four times once and felt like a big man I guess.

But I doubt it was very impressed.

From what game is that XTB-1? Is it RFJet?

About Batrider's last boss, in Advanced/Special course. Your ship type affects what kind of turrets will he use against you in the beginning. Here's the list I made up myself from observations in past:

- A-Type : Laser turrets
- B-type : Rotating turrets
- C-type : Shotugn turrets
- Start-type : RANDOM

However all of those can be dealt with easily by being at the top of the screen when the turrets start showing up so they won't aim at you. after they're all destroyed. Go to the bottom of screen instantly.

Dude! That post is probably my biggest TLB moment!
I'm a big fan of Contra III, but I always play games on normal, and I had no clue there's a TLB in this game.
Time to make a triumphant return!

Radio Zonde, final form of Aoxola. Not technically a TLB, but somehow it surprised me more than any TLB in any other games. I could discribe it here, but I don't want spoil it for you -- if you are curious, grab the game and see it for yourself!

But that will take you quite a while. Hee hee...

Yeah, I realize it's not the TLB (since I was playing normal course), but it was a similar situation to facing one.

Heh, I didn't even realize that was a triggered boss. Do I have to meet those requirement during the Highway stage, or can it be any stage?

I'm definitely jealous of this. I've reached the final form twice and failed both times. I only had about 1/4 of the life bar remaining both times. Ugh. So I guess those are my biggest TLB fails. I'm going to give it another crack tonight and hopefully I'll be posting again, this time with good news!

My greatest TLB moment was the first time I reached Hibachi on Daifukkatsu in the arcade with A-Strong. Someone had asked me to do a "demonstration run" with A-Strong even though it wasn't my best ship at the time, he figured he could still learn a lot from watching me. After a no bomb no miss of the entire 1st loop, I kinda freak out and wonder how far I could get in the 2nd loop.

I had seen and beaten Hibachi before with C-Strong but that's too cheesy for me to really count that. My friend called everyone in the arcade over when I had reached 2-5 Ura and told them to get ready to see Hibachi. A few fanatics came over right away along with the arcade owner who had been waiting to see it ever since he got the game. I played through 2-5, and then took the waiting period between 2-5 and the TLB area to calm down, have a drink, and then realize that there was a mob of people behind me and the machine. I felt pretty pressured but at the same time an immense adrenaline rush like I had never felt in a shmup since Dodonpachi's TLB.

I beat Golden Disaster, and reached Hibachi and that TLB theme blasted throughout the little room we were in. There was surreal silence from everyone behind me but of course there were a few people who went like "WTFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU WHATS HAPPENING." I struggled my way through Hibachi and reached it's final form and everyone seriously went like "OSHT"

I couldn't beat that final form though and kinda felt like I had let everyone down, but someone gave me 2 quarters to finish it off so everyone could see the credits. Even though it wasn't a 1CC of both loops, people knew who I was from that point on and everyone calls me Dodonpachi Guy whenever they see me at the arcade.

Big pressure, important run, played better than usual. Very focused during the fight, very surprised, relieved, and satisfied the second it was over.

beating the final boss the second time around for Ghosts N Goblins on the NES. The boss isn't even hard, but getting there past the dragon and red devils is so tough that I was nervous as shit and just hoping I could beat him and finally never have to play that Godforsaken game again. All that tension makes fighting a boss that's about a 2/10 on the difficulty scale feel like a 9/10.

I made it the True Final Boss on Radirgy Noa last week, and got annihilated. It's the only TLB I've gotten to so far so by default it's my biggest moment

First I will share my biggest TLB moment: I just beat the TLB of Crimzon Clover on Original with Type A. This is the only TLB I have gotten to and beaten so I'm pretty happy about it. Whooooooooooooo!!!!!

A few runs before I finally beat it I had my biggest TLB fail:

Image

This made me extremely angry. Not only was I so close to beating it but I was also one nanosecond away from getting a fresh bomb which would have secured my victory. To obtain bombs in the game you must hit enemies with your shot or lock-on shot in order to fill the bomb meter. You must fill the top bar half way across in order to get a bomb. At least I avenged myself and finally beat it! I'm still hyped up!
