DOUBLE POST
Right now I'm getting back to Esp Ra.De after not playing in a while. Not so great, but managed to almost get to Stage 5! Progress is progress.

Touhou 4 and 5.
I have had the stupidest deaths. I'm cruising along, and I get hit because I stopped paying attention. And then I get hit 3 more times within the next few minutes.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Batrider, a lot of Batrider. Feel like I'm making progress on the Advance 1CC, consistently hitting Zenovia city.

ESP Ra.De, made it to final boss. Those tanks in Stage 5 are just horrible; I have to practice with save-states.

And I can't use savestates with my current version of MAME. Goddamnit.

Yeah, I have about 5. But none of them are both lagless and savestate-compatible, so...

On a whim, I put some credits into Batrider this weekend. I might have to get into this game seriously soon, I had a lot of fun.

Edit: couple more credits today. On the last one, I got to the final pattern of the final boss (Normal course), but couldn't quite finish him. It's becoming even more enjoyable as I learn it. Is the Normal course considered the default mode, or should I really be concentrating on Advanced?

Mars matrix and smatterings of sexy parodius. That game is so absurd its hillarious. I keep replaying the first stage just to play the pop corn boss.

After playing Crimzon Clover Original, Type I, quite intensely this weekend (only 300000 missing stars for type Z!!!) and pushing my personal record in this game a bit farther, I turned back to Mushihimesama Futari Black Label Original.

Had a fantastic run, made it to boss 5, almost killed her (had only a sliver of life left...) and pushed my personal best to about 380 Millions...

Made some deep breakthroughs in my shmupping skills... Managed to get a much tighter and much much more precise control of my ship/avater and... Finally got the hang of correct bullet herding and mikro-movements... Wow, that's an epiphany in shmupping!

I even put my newly-found skills on the test. I immediately played another credit in Mushi Black Label original, and yes, made it again to level 5.

Then I tried DDP and DDP DOJ in MAME and got as far as never before...

Guess I'll give Mushi black label original some more playtime now, in order to consitently get the 1cc. Then... I'll probably turn to Mushi black label maniac... But who knows... There's so much to shump and so little time... :-P

I won't consider myself to have truly beaten the game until I get through Advanced, but you should definitely start out on Normal until you can 1CC without too much trouble. Knowing the clear is within reach will keep you motivated to continue playing, and pretty much all the skills you pick up going through the stages are directly transferable to the Advanced course.

Are you using stage edit? I'm curious who you were fighting as your final boss.

I feel the same way towards Batrider. I've cleared the normal course, but it doesn't feel that satisfying since I get my ass handed to me whenever I get to the advanced course levels.

I've been playing Sky Shark. I picked up a pcb not too long ago and I've been having lots of fun with it. Cool music, and simple mechanics. Just shoot and dodge.

I've messed around with it some, but haven't found any route that seems better consistently. I think I've always faced the red ship that starts with the green homing lazers. That's the only final boss I can remember atm.

Oh christ that's Envy. That's the only one of the 3 robots I can't beat consistently, scares the hell out of me honestly.

I always stick to Sky High - Sewers - Airport which gives you Blunt (unless you activate special shot or option powerups). Blunt is the sort of average difficulty boss, Envy is the hard one and Sobut is the easy one. Dunno what order some off the better players use.

Heh, I took your suggestion and 1CCed it first try. Apparently I had faced Blunt once, but wasn't able to beat him. I beat him on my last life this time, and was starting to celebrate when I realized there was another boss after that (or another portion of Blunt? wasn't paying too much attention). Still had one bomb left, so that got me out of a jam and I took him down first try.

You're right, it feels nice, but I'm already itching to take down Advanced course. There are extra stages in Advanced, right? And I'm assuming higher difficulty on the normal stages, too?

Congrats on the 1cc, even if it's not a "real" 1cc it's still a milestone.

There are some places that are a bit harder but overall the shared stages aren't much worse (stay on your toes in sewer though, you'll see why :p). The extra stages are Zenovia City and Building, and they come right after Highway. They're pretty long and can get really nasty without rank control, I have yet to make it to the boss of Zenovia City but I'm very close, been working hard on the Advance 1cc.

If you're getting burned out practicing Advance spend some time on Normal with some of the optional bosses activated.

If you don't feel the compulsion to post in all caps afterwards, it wasn't a real 1cc. This is a good general guideline.

I may just run through all the Super Aleste modes and point-press, because it's a lot of fun. You could have bought this back in 1992 or whatever, and it could last you months.

More ESP Ra.De, going to find an emulator that can savestate so I can practice Stage 4. Really doing pretty well so far, and am consistently game-overing at Garra first form, so that's great.

EDIT: Just managed to perfect up to Stage 4 trains before boss (bombed once), only one bomb on boss, would have been perfect had I not died when it had 1 pixel of health left. Couldn't pull myself together for Stage 5, and died early in boss fight. Hate it when I fail and can't un-fail.
