Whats your favourite artwork related to shoot em ups?
Re: Whats your favourite artwork related to shoot em ups?
While I don't care for the games that much, the artwork for the entire Gradius / Salamander series has been amazing. Love Cave games, but IMHO their art is terrible.. I hate the look of the MMP girls as well as Ibara and Pink Sweets. The Progear art is great, however. My fave is the Gradius scene that ChainsawGuitarSP posted above.

Mushihimesama Futari's artwork is just plain whimsical.

Can't find a better version of this one, but it reminds me of the old Disney films. The big, ugly witch in the background, and the main characters looking worried or perserverant in bringing her down.
I can't find a way to show it on this site, but this picture looks fab to. The way Reco looks at you is as if she's inviting the audience to join in on the fun.

I also always like the Keio Flying Squadron art. It was the first anime game I ever played, so it's kinda nostalgic for me.

I'd say it seems heavily influenced by Ghibli stuff, which in turn takes a lot of inspiration from classic Disney and add a typical Japanese flavour to it.Terramax wrote: Can't find a better version of this one, but it reminds me of the old Disney films. simple stylish and to the point.

IMO, you can't go wrong with the "Awesome craft/plane flying in foreground, giant enemy exploding in background" formula.

1) Coryoon

2) Zanac X Zanac

3) Gradius V

4) Psyvariar 2

5) Star Soldier PSP

There are many others that I didn't mention, but these will suffice for now.

All of the larger ingame ships/bosses of the Donpachi series, especially Dai-ou-jou.
