An absurd essay advocating the banning of "violent sports."
http://www.oppapers.com/essays/Should-D ... ned/195550
Her thesis is vengeful and moronic. If you don't like violent sports, then guess what? You don't have to play them. No one is forcing you to do so. If other people enjoy them, then why would you want to take it away from them?
"Even where people can choose, they sometimes need to be protected against themselves." Again, if they are having fun, it is neither yours nor anyone else's call to abolish the sport. Some 35YO dude who has been boxing for years isn't going to accept your odd offer to "save him", because the sport, violent or not, has enriched his life.
Imagine if you were having sex and some stranger jumped in the room with a signed document and said, "You can't have sex, because it is violent and it's against the law". How ridiculous would that be? (Not to mention frustrating.) Everyone would break this law because it's dumb. People need to procreate and fulfill their desires just like men need contact sports to be entertained and keep themselves healthy. The same thing would happen if you created a law that "abolished" "violent sports." And the same thing is happening with the law against weed, etc.

Violent sports are useful precisely because they provide a positive outlet for violence. Theoretically, anyway.

Reading that, it felt like this paper was written just because the author could get more words out of being against violent sports rather than for.
It really reads like the author doesn't care.

Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Erm - there are a whole host of sexual acts that , even if conducted between two consenting adults in the privacy of their own home, are illegal."You can't have sex, because it is violent and it's against the law". How ridiculous would that be?
and yes, it's stupid that it should be so.
played Rugby Union (and a bit of League but Union was what was played in schools so...) to a pretty high level until i was 18 and this statement is absolute garbage. It's a tough sport for sure but the idea it's barely-concealed violence? :/Other sports, such as American football or rugby, are also barely-concealed violence.

If that was really the case, then the author (I'm assuming it's a female) wouldn't have used a word like "barbaric" to describe the act of boxing. Either she is the victim of violence herself, or just hates blood and violence for some other reason. It really reads like the author doesn't care.
Another thing that gets me is her complaint about "violence on T.V." Why keep that channel, then? Aren't all boxing matches Pay-Per-View, anyway? It never seems to occur to these people that they're not the only humans on earth. They should make their own decisions, but when it comes to the decisions for others, they need to mind their own business. "Good" and "Bad" are subjective.
I don't even know why I'm getting defensive about what she has to say. It's not like she can do anything about it, anyway. This article just rubs me the wrong way.

The site linked to in the OP is one of the many scam pseudo-businesses that swipes writings from all over the web and makes them available for their members. It's for people who want something to plagiarize for their coursework, but don't want to pay a sizable chunk of change to a custom essay-writing service.
Who knows where this violent sports bit originally came from? In whatever its original context, it was very probably supposed to be ridiculous. Anyway, criticizing it is like criticizing the smell of a random bag of garbage at a landfill.

bu bu bu bu ... this is our sense of smell being tickled here!ticizing it is like criticizing the smell of a random bag of garbage at a landfill.

*ignoring the obvious foresight in the post above clarifying the situation...*
also of note - when i lived in my home town i did Ju-jitsu for close to 10 years. At that time there was no full contact tournaments of any sort for the dicipline and the UK director (Anthony T Jackson) was clear that that was the case.
You still spar and went for each other, but there was no organised tournaments.
When i was back i was interested to see the same club had now seperated and many of the members were involved in some of the local cage matches etc. Whilst i've no problems with that at all i guess it's just a sign of the times how thing have moved on. For someone practicing martial arts it's a perfect grounding for seeing exactly where you are training wise in a semi-controlled environment. Someone trained coming at you with actual intent really does raise the stakes, though a cage match doesn't specifically put you onto a defensive footing.
Do i think it's barbaric or should be banned? i really don't see why - again, consenting adults doing something the pair want to do. I really don't see what difference it makes.

As sports go, boxing is actually pretty darn barbaric, as the objective is to cause cranial trauma. (a knockout) Most of the other sports, while they can be rough on the body and get rather violent (american football for one) the objective isn't actually to hurt the other players. But hey, i'm not the one getting hit.
Consenting adults and all.
Apparently back in the days of ancient greece, boxing was significantly different. The contestants would continue until one yielded (in other words, BEFORE the trauma, unless the person was an idiot)

Here's an interesting confessional by someone who works at one of those services. The requests they get are wtf-tastic.Siren2011 wrote:There's a business for that kind of stuff? It's for people who want something to plagiarize for their coursework, but don't want to pay a sizable chunk of change to a custom essay-writing service.I guess some people are in a rush and need a quick essay.

That guy had a tough job.
