Great fun. Never expected it, actually, me not being a Cave-fan-boy.
But this loli-crap theme is so unnecessary.

Same here. Have to give RSG a lot of credit for this. Comparing the two discs, it seems the colours on the replacement are lighter, especially on the background detail.Wonderbanana wrote:My new soundtrack dropped on the door mat today. Props to RSG; a lot of pubs wouldn't have bothered.

thanx for letting me know I was gonna buy it for £20 at my local Game on Monday but for that price its worth waiting a few days for the postman
Re: Deathsmiles PAL release (DATED: Feb 18th)
Personally, I never really had a problem with the characters. Wouldn't be the first game I play or media I own with underage female characters as the main (Cotton, Cardcaptor Sakura, etc.). Though Follet's Gilvarado ending IS embarassing around the wrong company.

I believe most prefectures set a higher age of consent. 13 is simply the minimum.Skykid wrote:When nobody feels like breaking the law I guess, yeah.exquisite_torture wrote:The age of consent in Japan's 13, isn't it?

I'm not sure why you feel Loli's 'fit' a Halloween atmosphere though? Would you feel that way if Deathsmiles didn't exist?

Halloween is a kids oriented celebration, like Xmas, and like Xmas tales, most Halloween tales have oniric settings with kids as main characters. Jack O' Lantern being after all, nothing more than a drunk version of Santa. To me if Death Smiles had adult characters with big oppais, or twilight like emo males, it would have felt out of place.Skykid wrote:Face looks like a kiddie but her ass and thighs are all woman. Kids fit the Halloween atmosphere (like Ghost House or something), but I don't really see Loli's as kids because they represent sex objects.Halloween is a kids oriented celebration, like Xmas, and like Xmas tales, most Halloween tales have oniric settings with kids as main characters. If the Deathsmiles characters were just normal girls and boys on a wild bullet strewn adventure, that would fit the Halloween atmosphere. Loli's only satisfy perversion no matter which environment they turn up in.

Re: Deathsmiles PAL release (DATED: Feb 18th)
I must admit I never really thought about it until I read the heated discussions on this forum.
I just thought of DeathSmiles as a pretty shooter with cute girls - I know a bunch of girls who dig the whole gothic lolita thing, and it's alright, whatever rocks their boat, most of them are old enough anyway, so seeing it show up here didn't really startle me.
However, where I think the game goes too far is the whole showing the character's age on the char selection screen, that's just too low, really...
Rosa is 17 though, so that's cool

Re: Deathsmiles PAL release (DATED: Feb 18th)
The girls in Deathsmiles aren't really very objectified. I mean, France and America do show off their chests, except the way they have pretty decent chests to show off kinda stops them being loli, doesn't it? What's left? I guess one of the endings, and some versions of the box art. You're getting this crazy over that? Just play the game and stop trying to get mad over things, damn.Skykid wrote:Kids fit the Halloween atmosphere (like Ghost House or something), but I don't really see Loli's as kids because they represent sex objects.

Well to me characters in Deathsmiles are just regular girls, they don't take lacive poses or don't wear outrageous clothes, and during the game itself, the characters models are just... regular characters...Skykid wrote:Kids fit the Halloween atmosphere (like Ghost House or something), but I don't really see Loli's as kids because they represent sex objects.Halloween is a kids oriented celebration, like Xmas, and like Xmas tales, most Halloween tales have oniric settings with kids as main characters. Now you won't prevents a couple of lolicons to get interested in Deathsmiles, but I'm sure there are lolicons who fap while watching Ponyo. I don't see the point really.

It may not exist in your mind because you don't perceive them as desirable, but Loli's by their very existence are meant to be overtly sexual, that's why they're nicknamed after Nabakov's character, 'Lolita', an underage object of lust.
I'm not mad or complaining, we're just discussing the relevance of said characters in videogames (or any material.)
It doesn't piss me off when I play DS, I like the game and I like the character designs. I bought the artbook. The only thing we're talking about is what they stand for, and I'm not sure why any grounded individual would think that kids in stockings and suspenders is a natural depiction, or an end sequence where they're naked in the bath is necessary, or an LE cover where they're canoodling in a bed of roses... or on a series of fuck pillows where they're sprawled out in skimpy underwear.
Short of bending over and fucking each other in the ass with dildos, I'm pretty sure the overtones are plain to see.

I've never bothered watching the arts between the levels so yeah, you have a point there. But yeah, japan, moeblob, loli, fanservicu.Skykid wrote:I bought the artbook. Little Red Riding Hood? There's a fair amount of sexual suggestiveness in there. I suppose the loli stuff works if you're linking Halloween to the whole fairytale thing.Skykid wrote:Kids fit the Halloween atmosphere (like Ghost House or something), but I don't really see Loli's as kids because they represent sex objects.

Re: Deathsmiles PAL release (DATED: Feb 18th)
That's not really true anymore. Look at Touhou games, half the fans call the characters in that lolis, and there's nothing sexual going on there at all, until the fans start up with the porn. Lolita fashion isn't meant to be sexual either. People just say loli to mean young girl now, that's all.Skykid wrote:It may not exist in your mind because you don't perceive them as desirable, but Loli's by their very existence are meant to be overtly sexual, that's why they're nicknamed after Nabakov's character, 'Lolita', an underage object of lust.
I don't think one ending/some out of game stuff really counts as that objectifying, but I guess you do and I doubt we're gonna change each other's minds, so gotta agree to disagree I guess.
I'm sure we can agree that Otomedius and Strike Witches are shameless at least!
Re: Deathsmiles PAL release (DATED: Feb 18th)
Outstanding!! Soundtrack replacement disc with proper audio tracks arrived today in *PERFECT* conditions, which seems quite logical given the care they put on the packaging. These RSG gentlemen open another chapter in all that -commitment to the costumer- means!
And thinking that a single e-mail was enough to get this in a couple of weeks, no questions asked.

By me nonetheless. Was the kind of release that doesn't want to be screwed up though so its still a shame to know that all copies held in all retail outlets have the dud disk. I expect cave may be pretty angry with them about this. They should really put a twitter message out and recall all of the copies and send the new ones to hmv, amazon etc
Re: Deathsmiles PAL release (DATED: Feb 18th)
Yeah, because they are obviously going to make such a staggering profit from DeathSmiles, that they can easily produce a billion more prints of a budget release without worrying about losing money.
I think people should do everything to support Rising Star Games instead of worrying about a soundtrack disc they'll probably never use. And most of those who use it, probably just do it to rip the soundtrack to their iPod, which could just as well be done from the "faulty" disc that's in out there the retail box now.
