Introduction and Dreamcast Shmups Recommendations

Post by AleFillman1 »

Hello everyone  The names Ale and I am glad I found this board. Pretty sick. I just won a Dreamcast and am looking for anyone to recommend some fun Shmups for me. I love anything like Contra, Metal Slug, Life Force, Gradius, Blazing Lazers, R Type. Never had a Dreamcast b4 so not sure what to grab.

The real question is: will you be forgiven because of your cool avatar?

Go preorder Sturmwind now.

cannon spike (gun spike) looks great and plays ok. It's available cheap enough so I'd say grab it.

The joke was because a lot of new users start threads asking about DC games and they almost always get locked.

I'd usually recommend some of my favorite DC verts: Mars Matrix, Gunbird 2, Gigawing, and Under Defeat. Since you mentioned hori memorizers I think Sturmwind is a perfect game for you, despite not knowing how it'll turn out, I think it'll rock. Also look into Last Hope: Pink Bullets

Thanks. Yeah man I def want to snag Gunbird 2. I was watching some gameplay earlier. Another reason I got the Dreamcast was for that new one Fast Striker but now i see its out of stock. Hoping they make some more copies. Looks ILL!!!

welcome to the boards. There are plenty of great shmups for the system. Many of my favourites are NTSC-J only though. You can get around this with a boot disc.

DCHAKKER can be used to boot imports

or you can google around and look for the legal CDX demo that will do the same thing.

Or there's a mod+software option to change your console's region

You could also install a modchip. Looks like they've become tough to find though.

best of luck!
