Buying localized 360 games.....?

Post by Guardians Knight »

Will you still be buying the Pal or US version of a game you already have in NTSC-J just to support the genre?

I must admit I'm impressed that they are bothering with porting RFJ and DS etc for a Pal release and altho they wont work on my jap system and i already have them in NTSC-J format - I am considering buying the local releases. Mainly to support the softies and the genre. just wondered if anyone else was as daft as me?

No.
One version of any game is enough.

Localized shmups are dirt cheap these days. Plus I only have one J-360, but lots of people have domestic ones. So with a domestic release, I can run more than one shmup at a time when I bring them to conventions.

I didn't mind picking up Raiden IV, Raiden Fighters, or Deathsmiles again.

No. I'd rather put my money towards the next upcoming game, not a game that I've already played years prior.

There's very little reason to buy localized shmups, unless you:

1) have too much money
4) strongly still believe you're supporting the genre by having multiple copies
8) haven't played the game before
15) can't understand the Japanese version
16) absolutely insist on supporting your own country's gaming scene
23) refuse to buy a Japanese 360
42) don't mind waiting years for a game's localization to roll out

Buying up localized versions of Senko no Ronde isn't going to make the sequel get localized. If anything, it's just going to make the game's publisher go "huh, look at that. There's a small spike in sales here. Weird."

I usually do, if it's a game I enjoy - at some point I end up selling one copy or the other though.

This is the only reason I'd really consider it myself, though region-free games make that a bit less attractive.

If I had the Japanese DeathSmiles, I'd have bought the European one anyway. It's dirt cheap, and we should support the trend if we want it to continue.

Always. If I enjoy a JP game enough, I'll always buy the US version if one comes out, even if I may be slightly reluctant doing so. There are only so many ways to express interest in a game I figure. I have JP and US versions of 360 shooters but rarely play the US versions.

I got the localized version of DS even though I have the JPN version. It made a lot of sense because it it came with content I didn't have on the J release including English subtitles. With RFA and RIV I only own the US version and unfortunately they don't get in the play rotation as much since my US 360 doesn't have an ideal shmup setup.

I can't think of a reason I would buy the J version of a shooter if I own the US version. However I could see buying the US version of a game if I own the J version. I know I'll have easier access to a US system in the years to come, and in the case of DS I got DLC that I didn't want to buy off the J marketplace.

I can't see any point in buying a game twice, that is completely daft. Save your money and don't be so foolish.

I bought Symphony of the Night four times for various systems (PS1, Saturn, X360, PSP)...
Bought Ikaruga twice.

There are plenty of good reasons for buying the same game twice, especially in a genre that's dominated by people with a "collector gene".
Sure, opinions differ, and it's easy to argue why it doesn't make sense to shell out money for a limited edition if you're never going to listen to the soundtrack it comes bundled with anyway, but to others it's the only way to go. No reason to insult people because they see things from a different perspective than you do.

I try to keep my game library trimmed down, so no multiple copies for me. About the only reason I'd consider it is a quality Superplay DVD, my weakness. Still kicking myself for selling Psyvariar 2 (PS2), despite owning the more accurate DC version.
