Apparently Irem released a collection of music from the R-Type series in January. Covers 1, 2, Leo, 3, Delta and Final. 110 tracks on 3 discs.
I originally stumbled across it on Amazon, so it should be pretty easily obtainable outside of Japan for anyone who's interested.

They'll never top the R-Type Special.
Then again, few video game albums can even come close.

R-Type Special was amazing... I remember recording the mp3s onto a cassette tape (because CD burners were too expensive back in the day) and I listened to it like a million times... awesome arrange album that I'd love to hear again.
