Why do people make unboxing videos?

Post by DragonInstall »

Is this some internet fad? Almost any new game that comes out have tons of people unboxing their game.. whats the point?

That's another question. Why do people watch someone else open a box? Does it give them some sorta of high seeing someone open a box? like a semi christmas present feeling? I'm just curious to anyone who does make those videos or watches them, what is the reason?

I sometimes check these out to see what the items look like brand new, or to see if the instruction manuals or contents are interesting.

It doesn't seem like something that's difficult to understand.

Because I'm never ever going to buy Battle Kid and that's very very sad.

I can understand this for consumer electronics or some toys because it lets you see what's included in the box and how much assembly or setting up is required. For games? Pointless.

Give over. It's a fair question.

Who knows - don't some people just upload anything because they have a Youtube channel. People watch them, that's reason enough I suppose, though I can't see much point in it myself.

All unboxing videos should be done by Ice-T.

Unboxing games is boring. On the other hand, videos where you see people waiting for their package to arrive and never get to know what's in the package never run out of suspense.

Because there is no show where you see celebrities unboxing a kid's coffin?

I don't get it at all, when you see people say that they do unboxings, they mustn't be good at much else.

Eh, it's a bit silly sometimes, but I occasionally check them out for special editions and the like that I didn't buy, or haven't bought yet. Sometimes when you see those pictures on-line before the "super duper edition" comes out you think it looks pretty neat, but after unboxing it everything is super small or brittle plastic. I'll never forget seeing my friend's Resident Evil 5 joke of a special edition. Everything was cheaply made and smaller than it looked in the picture. The necklace was something you would get out of a quarter machine, even. But I digress, for I'm gonna dive head first into the Duke Nukem Forever package...

-Unboxing videos
-Chuck Norris jokes.....in 2010
-"In Russia........"
-Anime scenes set to Linkin Park, SOAD, or whatever shitty band kids like these days
-Rickrolling............in 2010
-OkGo videos
-AVGN and his brood of nerd raging game reviewers
-"OMG...you must be japanese" responses to otherwise midlevel shmup videos
-5 ft tall asian teens trying to be hip, sarcastic, or funny
-SHAYTARDS
-Shane fuckin' Dawson ugly mug
-flat booty, morbidly obese, or 40+ year old chicks trying to booty pop cause they're "bored"
-reasonably attractive chicks who can't booty pop correctly
-Socially awkward people who have discovered athiesm, socialism, or just about any other "-ism" and think that the rest of the world gives a shit
-Expert Village or just about any other form of video instruction
-Black people, white people, asians, and whoever else who thinks they have a shot because Soulja Boy has shown them the light
-Angry old white men mad cause its not 1950 anymore
-Video game replay videos without ingame music
-"This video cannot be viewed in your country..."
-Vevo

........these are but a few of the most common phenomena that make Youtube, if not the internet in general, retarded.

What? The best rapper is white. I don't know where Soulja Boy is leading people but my experience with Lemmings tells me it's off a cliff.

Hellz yeah! That bust of Duke is going straight on my office desk. If anyone wants to fuck with me, they'll answer to the Duke.

But on topic, I like it for new electronics and such just to see what all is included, and a few special editions for games (like the aforementioned DNF), but just typical games? Nah, no need to waste time with that.

Watching games being unboxed is boring. Watching toys and figures being unboxed is cool. Watching videos by CollectionDX or 2old4toys for their unboxing videos is what is really great.

There is only one reason the videos exist.

Its because if 4000 copies of a SE come out, only 1000 people actually open them. The other 3000 wait in awe of what they bought for the first youtube, keep it sealed for eternity and watch ebay prices go up and down.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Unboxing videos will be a lot cooler once we get smell-o-vision. Of course, if my PC could replicate the "new item smell", I'd never buy anything ever again.

I for one enjoy unboxing new items I get in the mail and such, always have. Though watching other people do it, not so much...unless its just something really rare.

^Yeah. Sometimes when you check unboxing videos of older games there are generally some pretty negative comments on why they didn't keep them sealed. Redonk.
