This guy is a beautiful anime style artist;

http://www.gezfry.com/

Some of the pictures in his gallery are big enough to wallpaper as well :D

Anyone got any recommendations for anything artistic out there? I know there are a few creatively inclined people here that might want to show off their talents.

That guy really is good. Great site design too.

I draw...but I wouldn't say I recommend looking at it. :P interested parties can see my bullshit here: http://dewclaw.deviantart.com

Pfft, don't be so modest, you're very good! I really like that "bitter tea" thingamawhozit, especially.

On the topic of other artists, this one site has a link to a whole bunch of VG artists and such in its links section...

My favorite -- great kana fonts too!
Make sure you check out their "works" site. Some incredible Flash stuff.

seconded the comment of BulletMagnet. I like your style. You said you was looking to develop a shmup, and the girl in bitter tea was to be a character, right? Well Mr. Tom^2 is looking to assemble a team in the development forum. You can be the art guy!

Heh, no problem. I'm an art student myself, but my stuff is far inferior to yours, I'd get laughed off of deviantart if I ever got myself an account there, heh heh. If you come up with any new stuff let us know, I know I'd like a look. :)

Thanks for the comments and the heads up, TGK. That's right, Muscadine(the swirly hair girl) and Hemlock(the girl in the Overcast pic right below) are my ideas for the two playable characters(I love character based horzi shmups) I might give him a holler sometime...not sure if I could or not, my brother happens to be a programmer and banging out a single decent picture is hard enough for me without having to work on two projects :P

Bulletmagnet: I'll tell you exactly what my friend(the one who got me to start drawing back in 2003, you can find her at http://terriblekim.deviantart.com) told me when I was afraid to join cause of my low skillz; \your art will be better than 99% of the stuff on Deviantart. There are some extremely...rough artists on their along with the few amazingly talented ones. Getting encouragement and critiques on DA helped me improve alot. If you ever decide to sign up there tell me and we can devwatch each other. :)

...
ah, so you are working on a game with your brother?

about TomTom's project, I think I'll join him in a few weeks after I am a bit ahead of schedule at work.

Game art normally don't consist of full-body illustrations like the one you do on Deviant (although all games do need some of those for front-end screens). A 256 x 256 sprite is already considered very large, so it won't take you quite as much time. Also, most of the work in a shmup I think lie in drawing the scenery.

Yeah, sprites, scenery and mecha aren't exactly my forte...but I'm working on it. I'd love to be on contract as a character designer for a company sometime, all they have to do is come up with character ideas and splash art :D As for me and my brother, technically the game is still in super pre-development stages...I throw the ideas at him and he tells me he has no idea how to make it happen :P kind of a production learning experience for me and a programming learnin experience for him. Do you do scenery and spritework? You should upload some of it.

I'm a C, C++ programmer. If you put a gun at my head and tell me to draw, I would say, "TGK, he's not long for this world" in my best Bugs Bunny immitation (well, that line was said to Bugs, not by Bugs, but the mouse who said it doesn't seem to have a name)

back on topic...

www.monstersindisguise.com is my friends website. he designs a ton of cool stuff.

not really arty, more designy, here's my menswear collection.

www.davedenis.net

i only designed the fall/winter05 collection. the other stuff isn't mine. you have to click the 2nd box from the left and then fall/winter 05. the site is confusing, i didn't design it.
say, by the way...

and in the meantime, it's gone away....

http://www.sgppresents.com/ <-- I occasionally make a comic :? though the current update is a joke placeholder... Art-wise, I haven't done much, though I should change that.

Oh, and I should send y'all to http://www.foxprints.com/ because it's Tracy's birthday today ;)

Funny thing is I was going to start a Shmup Art Jam topic if I ever got around to drawing something new... I feel like I got beat to the punch somehow :)

Andi, I don't get a website for your page :(

Sorry for derailing. I really like your shirt designs beatifik, and that hoodie/jacket one near the bottom of the list is cool. I want that jacket.

+1000000 points for the Metal Slug reference Minzoku :) I'm gettin a broken image on your july 2 2004 strip though.

Hey, it might be a good idea to create another Update Thread for shmups members' art sites sometime.

edit: Wow, awesome mechanical stuff SFKhoa  I bet tomtom would love your help :o

There are a lot of game references in store  ...for instance, the leftmost navigation button activates tate mode for the comic ;) [for rotatable monitors]

Fixed the error--bad code :?
