Post by Alec44 »

Hello, i wanted to show my new shmup

Nanoforce,is a horizontal shmup, your mission is to save a female soldier infected by a virus

Image

4 levels, with one or two boss each

gameplay :

X blue shots
C red shots
C+X laser (if bonus collected)

there will be many weapons to collect

3 ennemies type

-blues organisms weak against red shot
-red organisms, weak against blue

When the player shots a mini blue organism with blue shots it will grow up, the big form will replicate little ones, when a big (red or blue) encounters the opposite they explode and....bonus

Wow, that sounds and looks like quite a big improvement over Breakforce, good stuff!

A few questions though:
1. Are you still using GM's internal music player for background music?
2. Is there any externalisation of files used here?

As it happens, I now have a public Shmup engine made using Game Maker 8 that anyone can base their game off as a template called GMOSSE. That uses external config files for reading variables, has TATE and externalised music, sound effects and backgrounds. The principle for sprites is not-so-different, I'm just working on other parts within the engine at the moment (I just made a fading transitioner like GM's inbuilt one but faster and tweakable within GMOSSE a couple of hours ago).
Feel free to have a look at what I've done so far to get a basic idea of how to externalise stuff! I use GMFMODSimple to play sounds and music but there are other ones without licensing crap around that work in a not-so-different fashion. Just remember to give credit where it's due if you like take a whole chunk out of it for your game. :P

I won't take anything i will just find the way on my own !
BTW i played your engine and it's very good !

Quite complicated (if a game maker noob wants to customize the code) but amazing !

The current release lacks a lot of commenting for what code does what, hopefully as the engine improves I'll be able to go through and comment everything in more detail. The new boss code I've done has comments on every single line, so once MK-IV is released one should be able to get a good idea of one way to code a proper boss made of separate parts. Some of the stuff that's not documented can either be seen in-game for what it does or can be tracked using Game Maker's debug panel as well, but mark my words things will improve. ;)

Is the title supposed to be a compound word, or no?

Honestly, that looked really boring. I hope you're planning to add more enemy types and shot patterns, or just enemies that shoot more often.

There will be more ennemies, more shots but i don't want a danmaku, i know there are Cave fetishists here but, the gameplay will be quite classic with a danmaku touch, that's all....

Am I the only one getting X-Multiply vibes?! :?

Anyway, looks promising. I always was a sucker for bio-organic designs. :D

Oh btw, I think it would be REALLY cool if you had a continue screen that reused the shot of the female soldier and had her turn into an creepy alien monster that breaks away from the table and mauls the screen if you let the continue countdown reach zero. Don't need to but I just thought it was a neat and fitting idea to throw out(Hey, it gives some nice shock value). :)

Nanoforce is back !
I'm working on it since few days, i don't want to give up !

Image

I've added few things to the gameplay :
-the ship can transform twice with collectable upgrades (it changes automatically)
-one collision, even with level2 or level3 ship will décline the ship to form1
-they are 7 shots i basic form, they change in form 2 and 3
-i've changed boss "A.I"
-i've added a "bit device" like r-type ?, no, like thunderforce, it rotates around the ship and can fire

Image

There will be five levels with 5 boss !

I'm doing this for me first (^^) but i hope it will be fun and hard !

thanks, oh, by the way, i'm a silly thunderforce fan, i did this for fun (with tfIV gamerips and silly remix of TFV bgm) and its a sort of "lab" to try some tricks and ennemies attacks for nanoforce ! :

thanks, i hope the feeling "bio/organic/creepy dirty things" is good....

The ennemies will :

-shot at the player
- chase the player
-be quite innofensive but mass numbered
- hide
-etc....

This is an old pic, i've created some other units since !
