I wonder if anyone can obtain a copy of "The Red Star", the last game by Acclaim. The video looks attractive, and the concept seems solid, a beat-em-up/shoot-em-up hybrid.
This causes to me a sensation of badness. - Stormwatch

Mine is a 1.3 and it has the older Samsung drive which is the ultimate drive for the xbox. Mine even plays dvd+R dual layer discs, and cd-r discs which, from what I have heard, most xbox drives have a hard time doing. After finding this out, I hit ebay and bought two new spares of the drive, in case this one ever dies out.

I forgot to add Crimson Skies and DOA Ultimate to the list of games.
Wait a sec. So you can replace the drive? Will one of those drives bring back to life a box with a busted RCA?
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

Yes you can replace it. There are usually stock xbox drives floating around ebay all the time.

As for The Red Star, I found it awhile back in ISO form, I will give it a shot later and see what it's all about.

Good for you. I'm not buying stupid shit from microsoft - this thing is modchipped, I'm renting and downloading <CONTENT SNIP -TF> My modchip guy changed my dead samsung drive to a thomson drive for free.

I'm off to the video store. Even if my dvd rom dies and can't play discs, I'll still have the games on the console so it won't matter.

Yeah I figured since you're so damn cheap, buying things would probably be out of the question.

A reminder to folks (that is: Elixir), that warez advocacy and assistance with copyright infringement of recent game releases is not for discussion on these forums. Next time your whole post will get deleted and/or thread will be locked. See Forum Rules

i've been wondering this too. it's like cannon spike but playable to those without reflexes... like me, for example. also its slower... not a good thing but whatever.
I have no sig whatsoever.

Yeah, this is why emulation is spoken of. Oh, please.. try again.

Even if I bought games such as Alien Hominid, I'd just end up returning them. In fact, I think this game is worthy of being deleted. It's not worth being free or played. I gave it another go last night, and I just couldn't tolerate it.

If the bullets were slower, and if the enemies didn't respawn constantly forcing you to move foward - it would be better. But no, it's really unbalanced.

Out of what's been rented, I recommend Burnout 3 and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath at a reasonable price.

RECENT games. Emulating old games that are no longer in production is considered a different matter around here from downloading new games that are still on store shelves.

Comments like that are already answered in the Forum Rules.
Forum Rules wrote:discussion of emulation is not a problem.
In this context, emulation refers to classic gaming, i.e. not DC ISOs.

That single game could keep you busy for probably years.
Isn't 3rd strike also on DC? What's the difference?

Oh well.

I can answer this. DC version has input lag, basically everything is slower and it doesn't feel accurate.

Unfortunately, Burnout 3 lasts for just a few days before you realise it sucks. Why? Stationary cars on all blind corners, touching anything puts you into that damn slow motion crap, the only way to beat the game is to drive scraping the track edges as its faster and safer, and the rubberband AI is entirely one sided. One crash = lost race. For online gamers, EA screwed that up too by insisting on using their own unreliable servers, and making people sign up for the 'EA gaming network' or some such nonsense - which lacks even some of the basic xbox live features.

If you want some proper street racing where skill = success, take a look at Midnight Club 3 - the graphics aren't as smooth as B3, but it offers matchless speed and freedom while leaving the player firmly in control of their car. The game has now eaten over 350 hours of my life since release, most of that online.

NFSU2 is awful, Juiced isn't bad, Midnight Club 3 is fantastic.

Forza Motorsport is apparently good. One of my importers was raving on about how superior it is to Gran Turismo 4.

Then you should buy them. I mean there's no difference right? Oh wait that would cut into those free games you've been enjoying.

I'm just not buying into these excuses because you mentioned renting games at one point. So you're obviously not out of options when it comes to trying out games.

I'm not going to say I've never downloaded a DC iso but I've also never taken the approach of "hey free games!" that you seem to be doing here. All those games were import games and if I didn't enjoy it, it was broken in half and thrown in the garbage. If I enjoyed it, I bought it. I've also bought most of SNK's stuff in some form or another, if you're going to use the emulation argument.

I also don't see the point of essentially bragging about it in a thread. In the future just ask for xbox game suggestions.

That's what I'm doing. Almost all xbox games somehow seem to have thoughts and opinions, and more specifically, flaws(see: burnout 3).

I'm not one for emulation. When I paid for this modchip, he included a 'software package' which has xbmc and a bunch of emulation crap. Super Mario World on an SNES emulator and such. Now, I own about 45 Megadrive cartridges, and about 25 SNES cartridges, including Super Mario World.

Would you like to know how Super Mario World for the SNES plays like through emulation on the xbox?

Music is slow. Movement is predictable. It's about as bad as playing a PAL version of Ikaruga in 50Hz mode with slow motion enabled. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not just out there to pirate every game possible. I liked Shikigami no Shiro II, so I bought a gamecube specifically for it.

And more specifically to own a spunky looking figurine that doesn't have 44DD plastic breasts.

If you like to fall asleep at the wheel perhaps - it's really for simulation addicts rather than adrenaline junkies.
