I read that in EGM once. The guy that uses sound to know where things are? It's pretty cool. I commend him.

What I said isn't even the most insensitive thing said in this thread. Hell, the guys above me were talking about effective ways of cheating when playing the blind guy. All I did was state probable fact...sorry it doesn't put the dude up on some pedestal. Whether or not he's overcoming a handicap, the story isn't very newsworthy. I don't have a problem with CNN picking it up, but front page news? I just tossed out Iraq as an example...just about anything belongs on the front page more than this lame special interest piece.

Cheating a blind guy > blind guy not deserving any recognition for his achievements?

I know I'm pretty uptight and opinionated. But this is an american, and america dramatizes everything to hell so I'm surprised that you're debating what's on the news. It's pretty bad what they'll talk about sometimes.

It's a harsh reality, but people are bored of their fellow americans getting killed in iraq. Same with the london bombings - how many people in america(or anywhere, unrelated to where it happened; no I'm not targetting america for it's ignorance) would of cared, as they have no relation(or possibly, no knowledge) of britian?

Mr. News is just attempting to keep you interested.

Indeed. At my old job there was a blind guy who could do any basic office task: compose documents, respond to e-mail, surf the web. When he needed to read a paper document, he would scan it, let the OCR software do its thing, and the screen reader would read it to him. Plus, since he didn't use a mouse, he knew all sorts of keyboard shortcuts. He's probably more efficient at using a computer than most people I supported there (which is sad because they're all college profs).

Again, that's why I say that the BBC is the best for world-wide news coverage.

Yep, it sure is! And I agree with you about American news being over-dramatized. That's probably at leat part of the reason why, in my Introduction to International Relations class I took as part of my Poli-Sci Major, the only American news source we were allowed to even use was the New York Times.

Time, Newsweek, and the rest are very much overdramitized, and also written at about a 3rd grade level.

hehe, "3rd grade level" may sound a bit misleading there, so let me analyze it a bit

4 years ago, I was learning English by myself, so naturally I read magazines. My skill was about the same as a grade 4, 5 native speaker, I think. I thought Time was hard and well-written.

Now, I'm almost out of college. I still read Time sometimes. I still find the written hard at times, but I realize that while the writing is designed to confuse and baffle, the content indeed consists of a lot of buffalo )@$*

But still, I'm sure no 3rd-graders can understand these magazines.
