Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together PSP

Post by evil_ash_xero »

This is out now, and mine is on it's way. I was a big fan of the original, but had MAJOR issues with the training of troops. I hear that they fixed that in this one. Anyone got a chance to play this version yet?

I always got a kick out of how Ogre Battle: March Of The Black Queen and Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together were named after Queen songs. Too bad they didn't keep doing that with the last couple of them.

Hopefully someone will stream this. I rarely see PSP streams besides Monster Hunter, but there's no way I'm buying obsolete UMDs.

It's $30 for the UMD or $100+ for the original Playstation game.

Or $5 for the Super Famicom version, like what I have. Granted, it's in Japanese, but...

I am planning to get this new version for the PSP, but I feel guilty for not having played the SFC version much yet.

Eh, regarding UMD's.. I'd prefer to have them, with the option to install the game content to the memory stick vs. straight download.

I rarely play the PSP, but I grabbed this title immediately.

For the most part I hate SRPGs. In the past decade they've become so derivative and have all types of poorly explained and fiddly systems and statistics. That said, I'm looking forward to Tactics Ogre as a return to roots. It sounds like the systems are pretty elegant but still with great depth of customization.

I still prefer to actually own games as well. Especially since PSN downloads are not significantly less expensive considering (I suspect) that there are much fewer middle men to be paid in digital distribution.

I've been playing this for the last few days and have been enjoying it quite a bit. I'm SO glad they took care of all the leveling up of troops. That made me take months on the PS1 version. I would just get so sick of leveling up, and would skip a few months at a time.

The game also seems to move a bit faster. It's too bad they didn't do a little more to the visuals(the new character art is very welcome though), but it's still an awesome game. I'd have to say this is THE version to get. And i'd probably put it on my favorite SRPG list, with FFT, Valkyria Chronicles, and Disgaea.

It's really too bad that they can't make a NEW Tactics Ogre, of this quality. Hell, a new FFT, that didn't have that pansy ass story garbage from the hand held versions would be acceptable too.

Well, the biggest middlemen are Sony and the game's publisher, plus when there's no physical package there's also no need to regularly clear out old stock to make room for the new stuff.

I buy the UMDs because it's nice to have the physical disc just in case stuff vanishes off servers eventually. Plus I like the packaging. I leave em sealed and download em to my modded PSP though. Uses less battery power to play em off a stick than to play the UMDs :D

The Premium Edition sounds like a similar package to the Dissidia Special Edition:

"Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, will be released as a special Premium Edition; comprising of a copy of the game, a 44 page hardback artbook: ‘The World of Tactics Ogre’ and an exclusive Mini Soundtrack CD. Also included in the Premium Edition box is a bonus voucher to claim 50% off the purchase of VAGRANT STORY from the PlayStation Network."

Probably expensive but...tempting. Although I already have Vagrant Story on my PSP.

As far as I can tell, every copy of the game in the UK is the Premium Edition. I can't see anywhere selling it without the book and associated gumph. It's the same price as a regular UMD release, too.

I've been playing the game while my copy arrives and it's just brilliant. I like it way more than War of the Lions and I can only blame myself for not having played the Ogre Battle saga up until now.

I got a pre-order bonus and it was lame-- just some silly cards. The game is nice so far.

9/10 in Eurogamer.

A+ in 1UP, which I guess is basically equivalent to 10/10.

As with a lot of Square Enix recently, US gets nothing (except the pre-order tarot cards) and LEs remain JP and EU only.

Well, it's an improved upon classic, so it's deserving of it.
