Sega Genesis Classic Collecton Gold Edition

Post by BulletMagnet »

Yeah, they're doing it again, this time for PC, across 4 "volumes". Most of it is stuff that's been repackaged at least once before, of course, but at least a few of you (mostly those who don't import for the PS2) might be interested to know that it includes Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, and Bio Hazard Battle, plus a few other titles (Landstalker, Toe Jam + Earl) that haven't been compiled elsewhere (I think). I'll stick with the PS3/360 collection for now, though...

These collections are always such a headache. That's why I never buy them(anymore).

I mean, this time they left out Dynamite Headdy. Then, there's no Streets Of Rage III(which is OK, but they should put Bare Knuckle III on there), and there's no Revenge Of Shinobi either. There's always something missing. And on PC??? Emulators anyone?

I'd be surprised if this sells over 100 copies.

Comments are funny (read: incredibly disturbing, as always). You should read them.

Pretty much every console in these two generations has the ability to emulate Mega Drive, so it doesn't matter where it goes.

Virtual Console is awesome. How is it a waste of time?
IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

Because it asks you to pay for stuff that you can easily get for free?

Aren't a lot of those games mostly the usual crap which show up, emulated terribly, on third party Mega Drives and plug-in consoles?

Super Thunder Blade is one of the worst games I've ever played (Thunder Blade on the SMS is one of the only things worse), how is that considered a classic?! Also, Virtua Fighter 2 Mega Drive version lulz.

Emulation aside, it's gotta be cheaper to ebay the decent games from that selection, with only volume 4 the exception as it carries Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, the Shining series and the first two Streets of Rage.

The library is lazy, overpriced (especially as you can get most Wii games from under £20 off Amazon a few months after release) and carries retarded DRM. Your Wii dies and you have to beg Nintendo to let you download them again. The idea of buying a game and not being able to take it to a friend's console is ridiculous.

And they go and release Gleylancer without translating it. Seriously, just bulk chuck a load of ROMs up and let people pay a reasonable price for them. The catalog is so limited and you have to pay a premium for the really good stuff (like Sun & Punishment) but it's specifically tied to your console.

Great concept, badly managed, even more badly promoted and even even more badly populated.

Is the PS2 AGES 2500 line finished? It's too bad we didn't get SOR and Shinobi discs of the Treasure Box and Monster World standards there, if so.

Sega really knows how to make horrible decisions. Before this announcement I read that there was some sort of Genesis line up of classics ready to hit PSN. Games were going to be priced at 5$ a pop. Genesis ultimate collections is like 20$ brand new if you know where to find it so I really have no idea why there is a need for type of service on PSN I don't know.

They really do not know how to make any money at all.
All they do is release exactly those games that have been featured in a gazillion collections.
Yes Sega, we get it that those are the only games that ever sold BECAUSE THOSE WHERE THE ONLY GAMES YOU WERE EVER SELLING. jeeez. And I´m mad because they posses such Treasures. PORT PORT PORT arcade games damnit, those that have never seen a port.

Cool 3D racing games like Race tv, Indy 500, Ford Racing Full Blown, Emergency Call Ambulance, Le Mans 24, Dirt Devils, Daytona USA 2 : Power Edition , R Tuned: Ultimate Street Racing, Scud Race Plus, Motor Raid, Cool Riders, F1 Super Lap, Out Runners, Rad Rally, Turbo Outrun
Cool 2D games like Golden Axe The Revenge of Death Adder, Shadow Dancer
Coo llight gun games like House of the Dead 4, Let's Go Jungle, Star Wars Trilogy, Star Wars arcade
Flight games: Sega Strike Fighter, Wing War, Strike Fighter, G-Loc
Puzzle games: Waku Waku Animal
Other games: Top Skater
Or how about some Saturn rereleases like Waku Waku Animal or a Saturn Collection. OR how about a Sega Master system collection with FM sound.

I want to give you guys my money if you hand over your treasures.

Sega, please stop milking 16 bit Sonic. Those rampant compilations are like a 2 ton Hoover on his 16 bit nips.

Another question boggles me: will there be games only or some bonus content as well? Sega Genesis Collection for PSP has a good load of it (not to mention introducing me to Phantasy Star Universe)

If Sega includes some high-res manual scans, 'making of' videos, hidden games and interviews, this collection may have a chance
In an alternate universal, Soldier Blade II has already been crafted by Hudson Soft and Compile with proper tate this time around (c) PC Engine Fan X!
Sega tried and failed. Nintendo didn't even try. (c) Specineff

Besides what others have already told you, it is far cheaper, accurate emulation-wise, convenient on HDD storage, and makes better use of the Wii's functionality to buy an SD card and install The Homebrew Channel and then Genesis Plus GX to run the entire ROM-dumped collection of Megadrive games in existence with perfect emulation accuracy as opposed to buying them from Nazitendo.
It's quite pathetic that despite having the power to make a lot of useful homebrew programs completely redundant by making their own free Media Player channel with more support than what the current HBC media players do, they choose not to and make System Menu updates with the sole purpose of disabling homebrew. No bugfixes, no new stuff, just more security trash.

Virtual Console...well, the Wii is GREAT for emulating, if you hack the thing, which is a breeze. I play almost all of my oldies on it, even though I have the original systems on standby.

What games are actually new here? At a cursory glance, these are the same games Sega has put in their previous collections.

It doesn't even have the Phantasy Star games, this time around.
