I picked up a copy of G Darius for the PS1 today. I tried it out on my PS3 and it was totally unplayable. In addition to having some slight input lag, movement input would "stick," causing the ship to run into enemies and walls. For example, if I moved right and let the stick go back to the neutral position, the ship would continue to move right. This only seemed to happen when the screen got really busy, but it was really bad, as in I would tap a direction and the ship would move almost halfway across the screen.
This happened using both a Dualshock 3 and the MadCatz SFIV stick.
My question:
Is this a PS3 thing? Should I dig my PS1 or PS2 out of storage and use one of those instead? Or, is it possible that somehow my copy is defective? (The disc is pretty scratched, but loads without a problem.) I searched Google and these forums and couldn't find any information about it, which makes this all the more confusing for me.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. I will probably dig my PS1 out anyway, but if anybody can give me a head start on figuring this out, I would be grateful. If one of you lovely people would be willing to try out G Darius on a PS3 and let me know what your results are, that would be extremely helpful as well.
Thanks.

I bought it from the Japanese PS Store. Seems fine. No issues of any kind on both my 60GB BC and 250GB Slim.

I've been playing it on my PS1, I'll try to remember and pop it in the PS3 today or tomorrow and let you know if I have any problems.Lochlan wrote:I picked up a copy of G Darius for the PS1 today. Could it be the TV itself doing the upscaling instead of the PS3?
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
Re: G Darius Input Lag on PS3?
All PS1 and PS2 games have input lag when played on the PS3, regardless of the video output. This has been tested and documented by the fighting game community.
For reference, see here: http://shoryuken.com/f177/ps3-input-lag-173220/
It has lagged (since launch day) by about 2 frames, or 33.3+ milliseconds. It happens because the PS3's video processor buffers two frames for "image enhancement". Sony will never fix it and stopped caring about BC a long time ago anyway.
Only workaround is to keep that PS2.
Re: G Darius Input Lag on PS3?
last i played my old PAL copy of GDarius on my ps3 i had the same issues that you are having. I do recall having similar issues with other ps1 games at the time(which was a good few years ago now) , and just kinda stuck to playing my ps1 games on my ps2 instead. I was hoping that it was a firmware issue, and that it would be fixed over time...
I shall test it out later today and see how it goes...

Re: G Darius Input Lag on PS3?
Tested it out again and it is totally unplayable still for me. Not only does movement occasionally stick, but sometimes the movement doesn't register at all.
Havent had this happen with any of my downloaded ps1 games, but playing them on a ps3 is out of the question for me because of the input lag the emulator has.
Just have to stick to playing the disc based ones on the ps1/2 and the psn downloaded ones on the psp

Re: G Darius Input Lag on PS3?
I noticed that the slowdown is a lot less crappy when playing on the PS2 than my original Playstation for G-darius. I hope I'm not making anything up, but it does seem to be the case.OBSCVRA wrote:Tested it out again and it is totally unplayable still for me. Re: G Darius Input Lag on PS3?
Thanks a lot for the replies, everyone! A lot of good information here.
Guess I'll have to get one of the old Playstations out of storage, but it's good to know that this is a PS3-only issue.

I downloaded one PS1 game and it was my last. Gitaroo man on the PS2 seems to have so much lag that you have to press the button before the prompts hit the right spot as well. I'll stick to my Ps2 for such games.
