Ebay Supergun ?

Post by Rob79 »

Hi I'm thinking of buying this Supergun off ebay.

Is it worth paying more for a component output ? or is s-video good enough ?

I'll be using it to play mainly vertical shooters like Strikers 1945 and Raiden series games.

$600+ for a supergun is an awful lot. Most come much cheaper than that. You know you could get an arcade cabinet for about that price delivered to your door. It is a tidy unit though with a lot of features, I just don't know if its worth $600 though. Especially since your playing Raiden and Strikers 1945 on it, which are MAME'd.

What neorichieb1971 said.
600+ is a lot for a supergun that probably costed around $150 in parts + some hours of sweat.
Admittedly, it looks very nice and professionally crafted, from the outside. It's a nice design too, really like it...
Still, I wouldn't pay more than around $300 for a good supergun without a CP.

Yeah I could certainly make one for cheaper than that. Also which raiden game, I know the spi hardware raiden game have a funky refresh rate that make them incompatible with a lot of superguns

Actually not with the superguns, but with the TVs they're connected to.

For $600 that thing better sync up to just about anything. Can you imagine paying all that money and the screen just rolls round and round

I went with an RGB supergun, and use a $50 RGB to component converter.

Haha, that's what I was thinking. I got my Astro for $600 shipped.

If you don't mind doing a little bit of custom wiring or making a case of some kind, you might look and see if someone online is selling any Vogatek superguns. I wouldn't trust getting them from the source since the guy has a real bad record lately, but I got a Mk II from someone on here a few months back and it works great and looks good through S-Video. Only cost me like $15 too, though as I said, you gotta find a way to wire controls and power to it yourself (though the Vogateks allow you to simply connect a PC power supply, so that part is simple).

how about this one? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUPERGUN-CONSOLIZ ... 25615c3a75

Seems to offer the same sort of functionality but at less cost.
