Considering it was "announced" like 5 years ago I thought everyone had already long considered it vaporware by now.
Still sad I suppose.

Re: Bad news about Gradius 6
Could be any number of reasons, but my #1 hypothesis is they probably couldn't sustain development costs, then looked at the projected revenue from the PS3 platform and decided it wasn't worth it. Konami's been outsourcing quite a bit on some of their titles in the past few years, which might be an indicator of their financial status. That thing about "hiring Treasure because they understood the Konami way" line from back during Gradius V sounds too much like defensive PR for one. Otomedius and the ReBirth series was handled by M2 (at least the home versions), and let's not forget the "Let's-Take-Metal-Gear-Solid-and-Set-It-During-Medieval-Times" Castlevania: Lords of Shadow done by Kojima Productions and MercurySteam.

This is probably it. Considering Sony is very anal about 2D games (actually they don't want them retail at all costs unless they're super-duper HD, even if they have 3D graphics)S20-TBL wrote:Could be any number of reasons, but my #1 hypothesis is they probably couldn't sustain development costs, then looked at the projected revenue from the PS3 platform and decided it wasn't worth it.

Damn the modern game industry sucks. I could have had a reason to actually turn on my ps3.

Does Sony still have that attitude? I remember that this was the case for the PS2, I thought they had dropped that nonsense by now... (then again, I don´t follow modern gaming at all.)Kaiser wrote:This is probably it. That was never intended to be Gradius VI in the first place. Clues did point to it being some horrible Move game though.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Re: Bad news about Gradius 6
Well, Sony had a very insulting attitude towards Arika when they proposed making Ketsui a PS3 launch title. Something like, "we would prefer to see you make something that is closer to PS3 quality."Frederik wrote:Does Sony still have that attitude? So, I doubt SONY has completely dropped that attitude.

Maybe Otomedius was so uninspired because they were channelling all their creative energy into Gradius VI.
Okay yeah it probably woulda sucked too.

Re: Bad news about Gradius 6
MathU has a point. There were only a few vague rumblings about a Gradius 6, and those came years ago. Are you sure this isn't just referring to that 'Arc' game we heard about a little more recently?

How come? Sony made and released FantaVision as a PS2 launch title. That game not only had 2D gameplay, but also didn't suck and yet, oh boy, did it enrage western audience... It must've fared better in Japan as Sony even released enhanced version over there.Frederik wrote:Does Sony still have that attitude? Sony doesn't give a fuck about 2D in retail anymore. They want to be full 3D with ultra-hiper-mega details all the time, no wonder we don't have any 2D shmups retail and stuff. Except mamoru-kun but it barely got in. Face it guys, Sony is the most fucking anal console manufacturer this gen for 2D games, whether you love them or hate them, your opinion won't matter. The truth stands before us. We're just too blind to accept it.Obiwanshinobi wrote:How come? Sony made and released FantaVision as a PS2 launch title. Re: Bad news about Gradius 6
Don't see what it's got to do my question. Numerous 2D games came out for the PS2 in retail (Mana Khemia, Odin Sphere, Ys I&II Complete, Shining Tears...). Although I agree that if they did care about 2D on their consoles, they would not have allowed ports of Ibara and Mushihime-sama quality to ever come out on their system. Heck, if I owned Sony, I would have told Nippon Ichi to disable that fucking sprite filtering or else.Kaiser wrote:Sony doesn't give a fuck about 2D in retail anymore. I'd be even more happier if Sony stops forcing everyone to go towards Crysis The Shmup: Now With More Shaders or Crappy Shmups For 2 Bucks: We Are So Retro...

That's awful. I suppose this is what you get with such rapidly advancing technology: those who are fond of the styles of older technology get left behind in the same lifetime.

Re: Bad news about Gradius 6
Konami are going backwards. Obviously they have too many share holders to think about and not enough home grown talent it seems.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Re: Bad news about Gradius 6
Sony is aok with retail 2D games. Little Big Planet, Loco Roco, Patapon are all first party entries and there are numerous examples of 2D 3rd party games. I think they had a policy in the early days of Playstation 1 (nearly two decades ago now, ffs) but even that was real inconsistent (see: Tombo, Alundra). Inconsistency is the name of the game with them.
No Gradius VI is bad, but you know Konami would just screw it up like they've screwed up everything they ever did that was good. Of course, they've historically done a lot of tragic crap with Gradius but modern Konami is the worst.
Putting it on PS3 in itself (if it actually was headed there) was a huge error - needs to be on a handheld, or across handhelds (PSP/3DS would be good with a downloadable version for 360/PS3 or something)
I'm gonna make a 'design Gradius VI' thread some time. Maybe soon!

This, and to add, they would need to hire someone like Treasure or CAVE for that matter to do so.mesh control wrote:I would be amazed if Konami would even be able to top Gradius V.
