Wow, DOJBLEX got pretty high marks considering all the presentation flaws it shipped with. The Ketsui EX score is almost inexplicable in comparison. Maybe it just means they're getting tired of Cave ports in general though...

It's all opinions. Don't you think it's a touch arrogant to suggest that yours holds more weight than theirs? I think you could make a case for the top four games and NSMB being worthy of 10/10 because they're all excellent in my opinion. It does seem an odd list though, lots of recent entries and no pre-N64 era classics. Pokemon Black and White is the latest game to receive 40/40 by the way, missed that one off.

No, it's entirely equal. That's like me saying they're arrogant to suggest their review scores have more weight than my opinion, which incidentally they don't, because everyone knows Famitsu's scoring is full of shit.

I have a question about Famitsu's scoring. I know they have 4 reviewers and each one rates the game out of 10, but with the format like this -

6/6/6/5 Ketsui

Does this mean that the reviewer that gave Futari a 6 was the same one that gave Ketsui a 5, or are the scores given listed arbitrarily?

I agree, a game should have to do a lot to get a perfect score. For me, Ocarina is undeserving too. IMO, Link to the Past was and still is far superior, and Ocarina was just too similar to LttP to warrant all of its rave. I know, blasphemy, but I always felt Ocarina stole the glory, and a lot of other things (loose things like the world traveling, and specifics, like the way you defeat gannondorf in both games)

I agree with you that LTTP is incredible. I'd go as far as to say it's equal to Ocarina. I disagree Ocarina is undeserved of a perfect score though, it's a real masterpiece - one of very few IMO.

Famitsu is a rag nowadays. You can actually track its descent into ragdom by looking at that score timeline.
Scores are literally tied to how much is spent on advertising and every review is sent back to software publishers for approval before being printed (if it's a big enough publisher). If a game scores badly and Famitsu won't adjust their score to something the publisher is happier with, the review will sometimes get delayed to the next week's issue. I am not making this up. Also, I am not sad that all those Cave games scored so low - I really don't care about the games or the scores.
Famitsu can score games however it likes, but you should know the process before you defend them as being as good as any other mag.

EDIT: Ocarina is way better than A Link to the Past. LttP is even more boring and less essential than Twilight Princess/the DS & GBA games. Bottom tier Zelda. Just to clarify.

I am looking forward to another option on the US 360. I'm trying out some Batrider, just to get a Yagawa feel. Game rips me apart. Then again, this is my first mame experience, so I'm not quite used to it

I just sort of got the feeling that once DeathSmiles came out, that Famitsu wouldn't give anything without redone graphics a good score. Their score for Ketsui is ridiculous....especially compared to the high marks that DS II got.

Ocarina of Time has definitely not stood the test of time, which immediately makes it not worth a perfect score. Even the remastered version on GameCube or Wii still just isn't all that exciting. There's a lot to do and it was good for its time, but nowhere near perfect. Twilight Princess was better. On GameCube, that is, since the Wii version had shitty gimmick Wii controls.

And yes, Famitsu has a pretty bad rep for just getting paid off by game companies, but then again so does every other somewhat "major" game reviewer in the US, as well, like IGN, GameSpot, Game Informer, etc. Though, out of their perfect scores list, Soul Calibur and Bayonetta are about as close as any of those games come to perfection. SC was about the best that 3D fighting ever got, and Bayonetta is, well...Bayonetta.

What is interesting, is that these games tend to get better reviews(over all) in the West, when they are reviewed. Hell, i've seen Futari with a 10, where some bozo gave it a 6 in Famitsu. A 6!

Twilight Princess was a 'best of', a combination of all the previous games pieced together but with no real consistency. I found it quite disappointing and far too long. Not a patch on Ocarina.
