Man takes 17 years to beat GnG
The part where it says
"David used the advantage of being unemployed, and the lucky coincidence of becoming single (he didn't spend enough time with his girlfriend) to lock himself in his apartment and focus on completing the game that had been a curse to his existence."
I wonder if it is some real sarcasm or if the writter (Dave itself ?) considers himself "lucky".

Ughh...not impressed.
He used a "guide" for crying out loud!
You would think that after 17 years, he would learn and change patterns...basically improve through repetition/familiarity.
Its cool to be obsessed with games and all, but when you miss days from work, etc, well thats pretty sad.
Man plays same video game for 12 hours a day, for 17 years.
The only thing "impressive" about that is his persevarance.

I think there's something kind of noble about the guy. He's completed a goal that's been hanging over him for a very long time. So many people get discouraged and leave a host of half completed tasks or failed adventures behind them sooo I say kudos to this guy, kudos to all like him!

ah, I miss that. I just went out to play a little GnG. The only place in town I know that has it actually has it in an Ultracade, so I can't tell how faithful it is to the original.
But one thing I must say, the guy has perseverance, the control of that game is quite unresponsive for an arcade game. Given that every other game in that UltraCade response perfectly to my control, I would assume that the fault is really with GnG, and not the multi-game machine.

Too bad he didn't have an Amiga- its version released in 1989 was the closest thing you could get to arcade perfect.Specineff wrote:He had the perseverance to play the game with the keyboard and beat it, but didn't have the brains to go buy an $8 USB joypad? Hello?Perhaps it would have taken him only 17 hours, instead of 17 years.

That would probably have saved him a metric ton of cash. What he spent in total on GnG I don't want to know. Now 37 hours of straight playtime- good gosh. Ouch. Kudos to him for beating it however. Sure he may have used MAME but that fact is irrelevant as long as the game ran at full speed and no savestates were used.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

It's not a real story? I hope not because that is one sad waste of life.
I am confused. If it's true...17 years? He can't be a good player at all. After awhile you learn to memorize things. I'd hate to see him try to 1CC a shmup.

Ha. Wow. A nursing home patient could write a funnier pun.but at least it wasn't 'goblin' up any more of my money
