Re: Guwange 360
Sounds like it's either an anamorphic widescreen option or the game simply scales out the 16:9 image to fit 4:3 (meaning there's a load of overscan for the wallpaper as the image is still being rendered internally at 16:9).StarCreator wrote:... I'm still wondering why they refer to it as a "workaround" when it's a basic 360 capability, but going to have to wait until after the patch hits to see what they mean.
But yeah, guess we'll find out when it goes live.
Re: Guwange 360
The patch is out.
What they meant is that the option zooms EVERYTHING. Wallpapers, menus etc.
It's fine ingame but navigating menus is hard or in some cases impossible (leaderboards). It's fine ingame though once you adjust the screen size/position.

Congratualtions Cave for completely missing the point. The wide mode does absolutely nothing on my non 16:9 widescreen CRT. Looks like this new fudged option only works if you've got your 360 dash set to 4:3. Nice to see they didn't even bother to fix the Leaderboard bug (despite acknowledging it), and I'd be amazed if the other bugs have been looked at either.

I bet it still crashes in training as well.

Wow, just checked out the demo again. Half-assed isn't the word! They honestly must've had one programmer work on this issue for about half an hour. Pretty pathetic fix, not sure they really deserve my money for this.

You need to set wide mode OFF on a 4:3 display. Then you'll get the horrible zoomed menus etc.bcass wrote:Congratualtions Cave for completely missing the point. The way the Facebook post was written, it sounded like this was sort of a temporary fix. Usually "workarounds" aren't meant to be permanent.

Re: Guwange 360
Not necessarily. A 'workaround' is normally done because the other solution requires too much time/effort up against the actual gain. Nowhere did Cave say this wasn't the official fix. Anyway, don't you get one patch for free from Microsoft and any others Cave will have to pay to submit? I'm pretty sure it's something like that...that would give Cave even less incentive to patch again.
Re: Guwange 360
Doesn't matter what I have that option set to, it doesn't change anything on my non 16:9 widescreen CRT. Really pathetic effort there from Cave.KidQuaalude wrote:You need to set wide mode OFF on a 4:3 display. Re: Guwange 360
For me it worked perfectly (4:3 @480p in EGRET II). Now I actually want to play it. Downloading replays etc is problematic as you can't see shit, but turning the wide mode on for those short moments is only 5 seconds or so.

Re: Guwange 360
Works for me, but the menus aren't shrunk down, so that makes getting the settings the way you want kind of a pain. In the end, it works for me though.

Re: Guwange 360
So you have a CRT that isn't 4:3 or 16:9? I don't think I've seen any games that support other aspect ratios - and I'm not positive it's even possible to support them.bcass wrote:Doesn't matter what I have that option set to, it doesn't change anything on my non 16:9 widescreen CRT. Having to manually go in and turn "Wide Mode" on to see menus is a bit silly - why wouldn't they just program it so it automatically goes into Wide Mode whenever the user isn't in-game? Other games with widescreen menus (like Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix) switch between the two just fine, without the need for user intervention.

Re: Guwange 360
Yeah, that confused me as well. Is it a 16:10 (though I have never seen a 16:10 CRT) perhaps?StarCreator wrote:So you have a CRT that isn't 4:3 or 16:9? Re: Guwange 360
Other people on the forum have suggested it isn't 16:9. All I know is that it's some sort of widescreen, and out of my entire collection of games that I've accumulated over the last 30 years, only DeathSmiles IIX and Guwange force the display into this squashed format with large borders on the top/bottom of the screen. It's not exactly some obscure model TV either, it's a Panasonic Quintrix (TX-28PL1). Millions of these things were sold.StarCreator wrote:So you have a CRT that isn't 4:3 or 16:9? Re: Guwange 360
What resolution is your xbox 360 set to? If there are any others you can choose from they might be worth a try. Will definitely see the aspect ratio at least.bcass wrote:Other people on the forum have suggested it isn't 16:9. Re: Guwange 360
I'm having some trouble digging up details while at work, but it looks like the TX-28PL1 is either a 16:9 or 14:9 display, but accepts 16:9 input natively either way. Whether that means it stretches or crops or letterboxes to make it fit I don't know. But the appropriate handling for 16:9 on a 14:9 display without losing any of the picture would be letterboxing on the left and right sides, not the top and bottom.
Would definitely need to know what the dashboard settings are. Also, what connection type are you using, and does switching to another connection type make a difference?
Also, are the Cave games the only Japanese releases in your possession?

Re: Guwange 360
According to the specs online, its a 16:9 aspect ratio. Your 360 isn't set to 4:3 is it? This seems very odd...perhaps there's some weird aspect ratio setting/scaling setting on your tv that's causing the problem?bcass wrote:Other people on the forum have suggested it isn't 16:9. The only major pain is the leaderboards, otherwise you get the proper 4:3 game. This is definitely a brute force workaround, but we were warned. If playing in yoko you might wanna turn the wallpapers off as they become zoomed and low res. Otherwise I can't complain really, I wanted the game in fullscreen and got it, in 4:3 at least, not sure about exotic aspect ratios.

Re: Guwange 360
My dash is set to Widescreen. There's only 2 options - Normal and Widescreen. When set to Normal everything is squashed, it's probably just outputting 4:3. My TV is set to 16:9. DSIIX and Guwange are the only 360 games in my collection that have this problem.

How do I turn them off completely, please?TVG wrote:If playing in yoko you might wanna turn the wallpapers off

I'm glad this works now, but you gotta admit that this has, probably, the ALL TIME worst menus ever. I mean, what a mess!

DOJ BLEX pre-patch anyone? And now when patched you still get a sore neck if you TATE it.evil_ash_xero wrote:I'm glad this works now, but you gotta admit that this has, probably, the ALL TIME worst menus ever. I mean, what a mess!

Re: Guwange 360
Oh, I just figured that the brightness was referring to the game an not the wallpapers.

yeah, finding your way around them is a nightmare.evil_ash_xero wrote:I'm glad this works now, but you gotta admit that this has, probably, the ALL TIME worst menus ever. I mean, what a mess!
just tried the patch, looks awesome on the tate. the wide mode hack is quick and messy, but it works well enough.
Re: Guwange 360
The patch works great on 1280x1024: all menus are fully viewable, etc. Menu text still gets upscaled (I think) and the wallpaper cropped but otherwise nothing wrong with it at that res.

Re: Guwange 360
The update works for me, I can see what everyone's complaining about but really its only a pain for the highscore tables or if you're an idiot and can't figure what pressing A on "Resume Game" does.
TATEd my TV this afternoon, most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
Oh, and I defeated Guwange-sama without losing any health in 360 Arrange mode to top it off, along with beating all of my personal bests in Blue and Arcade mode in terms of survival.

Re: Guwange 360
When reading the credits for this game it was converted by just 2 programmers. Wow really small scale job.
Re: Guwange 360
Not really, given that all they probably had to do was change a bunch of hardware calls, which by the sound of things, they have mostly automated anyway. Given that they've boasted that the process takes just 3 days, I'm assuming all their stuff is written in C/C++, which is also the development language for retail/XBLA 360 titles.
