(PC) Gわんげdash (GuwangeDash)

Post by Observer »

Old name: G-わんげ鳩大往生XII~絆ダウン~

Official site (old, the abandoned project): http://cgp.s5.xrea.com/gw/indexe.html

Discussion board (japanese, the game was renamed to GwangeDash): http://yuzuru.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/gam ... 807979/l50

edit: as of today (28/04/11), the game was pulled down from distribution due to a complain filed by CAVE at NicoNico video.

Nice, will definitely check this out once I'm on my PC again.

I vaguely remember that there was another DDP/Ketsui/Ibara/whathaveyou-crossover from years ago, with ripped art but much more frantic than this one or even the original games. Some japanese guy worked on it, but as far as I know never released anything, just posted videos. Oh, and it was mouse controlled.

And wow, I just noticed their company logo on the bottom of their page

The creator of that one was Eagle666. He's the author of Revolver360. I'm still hoping he's doing that mouse controlled shooter but with original graphics...

And, yes, the english site is golden! I think they were looking for english speakers too.

I forgot to mention the game is not finished yet but they already added a Death Label option in the tests.

I came across this a little while ago, it's pretty crazy, yeah. It's also pretty hard, and the chaining is seriously unforgiving. Cave fans should definitely check it out.

Only problem is the hit detection feels a little off, even though they said they fixed it a couple of releases ago... maybe it's just me?

Given that it was mouse-controlled, he should remodel it into an iOS game.

Yeah, that was it! Reminded me a bit of Crimzon Clover with the heavily shaking screen. An iOS port of this would be brilliant, but since there's so much ripped stuff in it that would certainly not be legal. I also rember checking out that guys blog and he seemed to have moved on to other projects - I recall some talk of him wanting to eventually replace the ripped assets with original ones back when he was still working on it.

Nice find.

Is it just me or can you only assign functions to Z, X, C, and V? The key config uses the annoying "Button 0-n" format, that too many doujins use, making it a pain in the ass to figure out what key you're assigning something to.

This game looks insane, I'm so downloading this now.

Does it have an Evaccaneer DOOM at the end of second loop or Hibachi (or both)?

Nice find indeed.

Just 1cc'ed it. This game gave me a pretty bad impression at first (you'd hope they will at least change the boss attacks a bit), but later stages just got better and better, and stage 5 is what I would call a great stage design. The musics are also fairly solid. Will definitely try the loop once v1.00 comes out, although I still hope they will put some more original stuffs into the first two stages.

It took me way too long to notice your ship gets dropped off by the mothership from RSG. Clever! Can't wait to check it out tonight.

The game only appears to work with the arrow keys and whatever device is mapped to those. You will need to change the mappings of your controller, I suspect with another application.

Maybe Joy2Key can do the trick?

Since the game is not finished yet, someone with enough nihongo (heh) knowledge could post at the board and request such a feature to be added.

Mmmm, then the best course of action is to post in the board and ask for stick compatibility...

By the way, for those wondering, YES, the game has a final boss called "Hiseki" (heh) with a DOOM-like song and it's the Stone-Like (as per usual) using pretty much every shooting game icons as its attacks:

- R-Type drones+bits
- DDP ships+lasers
- Ketsui ships
- Espgaluda crystals
- More

And if you weren't happy with that, you have another one called "MAD". A little red trapezoid-thing (yet ANOTHER relative of the Stone-Like, the guy really has a numerous family!). It's madness, and there you realise the hitbox still has a lot of problems and it seriously needs an indicator that tells you where it is. He also uses giant missiles passing across the screen like RSG but they are fucking impossible to dodge properly due to all the flak, they blend with the background and move quite fast.

There is also a tribute to Battle Garegga with Black Heart as a boss. Stage 3 boss is indeed a Radiant Silvergun but it's not properly balanced so you can kill it i 10 seconds and it's pathetically easy.

So yeah, this thing is one hell of a crazy crossover. It just needs some polish here and there and you have a recipe for something awesome.

This is insane. I wonder if the Black Heart incarnation in this is any better than Alluro's version. :D

How do I get to it? Is it a secret boss or do I have to get to a certain stage? I cant get past Stage 1 at the moment.

You have a debug option when you unpack the game for the first time. It's called "TEST". There you can try all the bosses, ships and stages. As well as watching how the ship looks at Max Power. Tiger Schwertz earns 10 options, it's ridiculous.

I would say the Black Heart version featured here is ok. Not sure if "oh so great", but pretty damn nice.

Black Heart is the boss of stage 4, but he is considerably easier than his original incarnation. Hiseki is the boss of stage 5. I don't think you can fight "Mad" in a normal run, although (obviously) I might be wrong.

Only if you are using Tiger Schwert; he is a pain in the ass for any other ship.

Thanks for the info. I dont think I noticed a 'TEST' option before, but in theory that can be restored by finding whatever holds the variable for if its been used already once or whatever so if I really wanted to find it I could try that. The game is pretty damn good as it is though, and a debug display in the form of FPS and other variables just for trying in the Options Menu is very nice too.

I so wanna figure that out too. I bet you probably pressed a button or did a combination. What's the combination for Hibachi in that Dodonpachi iPhone one? Maybe that might give a hint.

Wooh! This game is so awesome that I've kicked Crimzon Clover into touch and re-tated my monitor :D
The ironic thing is that it's got me interested in DDP DOJ, a game which I've avoided like the plague before ( I know that's heresy, but I've already got in worse trouble here than that lol).
It's also exciting that there's surprise unlockables- anything could happen.

Hello 460 MB RAM use on load. Did the programmers not know what memory management is? You do not need to load every fucking sound/music/graphic uncompressed.

Anyway, the game itself feels really stiff and the chaining is even MORE strict than DDP, if you can believe it. Takes about 0.7 seconds for your chain to drop to zero instead of 1 second like DDP/DOJ. Why you would do that is beyond me.

Playing as the Ketsui ships is a pain due to the lock-on firing requiring a seperate button held down. Augh.

The whole game just feels like a bad imitation of Cave. Sorry, this one just does not work for me at all. If you've ever so much as touched DOJ/Ketsui you'd realize how stiff and inferior this feels, it doesn't have the same flow at all.

To be quite frank I found Dodonpachi's scoring system a tightass pain anyway so it doesnt affect me, though I do understand what you mean.

I dont think whoever made this really intended to perfectly emulate the scoring system and has changed slight things with the ships to fit the overall scheme of things. Dont be expecting to keep a chain for a whole level in this.

So I've got my head round all the debug option button mappings (thanks to google translate!):
0: Shot [OK]
1: Laser
2: Bomb
3: Laser Charge
4: Invincible
5: End Game
6: no wait
7:60 FPS Return
8: Menu Title
9: Pause
10: Restart
12:30 FPS (slow)
13: MAX State

but what's that "CPU PR" option in the config do?
And is it just me, or does the Tiger Schwert lock-on laser do absolutely nothing...ever?

Oh, man, your sig. You really have a sense of humor

Anyway, I noticed that the lock-on mode of the Ketsui ship extends the duration of your chain by a lot. Agreed on the laser, it feels like it's decorative, your options do all the work. I can practically keep my chain going almost until the two big cannons near the end of stage 1, past the midboss and its minions. It's not easy at all though, I agree the chain timer goes down hilariously fast but, hey, you can hyper the fuck out of everything after you shoot enough stuff, and I didn't notice a rank increase either. Plus this is all so insane that it's not that I'm going to take it that seriously anyway. :P

So, for any complaints, what I said before: go to the japanese board and post them because this is still in development so there is time. We'll need someone that has enough grasp of moonspeak though... And, again, I'm not sure if they are still looking for english speakers but who knows.

Ok, according to the 2ch thread G-wange Dash and Guwange-Ruga-Daioujou-XII-Kizuna-Down are not the same thing? (I just realised this said in the readme as well but I never bothered to read it or the thread before...)

Apparently the Guwange-ruga-etc. project has been going on since 2003, but like most projects started on the internet an important member went missing, in this case the main programmer, and since then another member has just been trying to put the pieces together to finish it off. But he hasn't been around since last summer, and G-wange dash is basically a completely (?) different game that a guy unrelated to the original project (?) has made using the raw materials (sprites etc.) from the original.

Also you get to be Hibachi by holding down when you select your ship.

Now that's some interesting bit of info. The exe is still being called Gwange Dash so I guess the guy carried on the name. The title screen still has the ultra ridiculously mix and combination of shooters. In fact, the guy even animated it a bit now!

Ah, thanks for the Hibachi tip too.
