Hi
I'm new in this forum. There isn't many forums for people actually trying to repair faulty arcade boards, so I'll give it a try here. It's a bit OT (as Psychic 5 is not a shmup), that's why I placed det subject here. Ok here's the situation:
I have an original Jaleco Psychic 5 board, and aparently everything works fine. BUT at 3 points in the game, the down-direction doesn't respond:
1) When you get lucky and smash the witch and fly her broom stick.
2) At the continue screen, so you have to wait for the time-out if you don't want to continue (and time-out is 30sec!!!).
3) At the high score screen, where you write you initials.
Well, number 2) and 3) I can live with, but 1) starts to bug me, as I'm beginning to get pretty god at the game and want have higher scores.
Has anybody else ever seen this problem or might know a fix for it?
Bonus question: Do anybody have links for forums dedicated to nerds trying to repair faulty arcade boards?

Moved to Hardware. While the game isn't a shmup, this is probably best placed the hardware forums. Hopefully somebody with a related Jaleco shmup PCB (if such a thing exists) can help.
Also - have you tried posting this on AO?

Well, does the down direction work AT ALL? If you do a high jump and mid-jump hit the down direction, the esper should stop moving upward. If that doesn't work (it's a much needed move btw) then there's something broken in the inputs on the PCB (all other boards have working controls in that cab/supergun you're using, right?).
Hope you'll get it to work, it's a very rare board.

Yup, the down direction works quite well in all other situations. Otherwise the game would be pretty unplayable cause you'd be missing the mid-air-stop-function as you mention.
It's unfortutionate, cause I think that would have been alot easier to fix };-(
