Car Poll...possible trade.

Post by TWITCHDOCTOR »

I'm considering a possible trade.
My 1968 Chevelle for this 1978 Camaro.

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/692988

Its pretty much a "race car". Its very fast and powerfull.
The owner is considering a trade with me because he no longer wants a "race-car". He wants a classic cruiser. Which more or less, is what my Chevelle is. Still, my car has some power too.

68 Chevelles are a lot more rare than these Camaro's.
I really don't know what I'm going to do yet. I will be thinking about it for a while.
What do you guys think?

Camaro I'd imagine is easier to get parts for, but doesn't quite have the class.

The attraction for me is that its already built for Drag Racing.
The guy invested around $6000.00 on the motor alone!
The transmission in it is similar to mine; it's been rebuilt with high performance racing parts, whereas the one in my Chevelle was built for racing from the factory.

Pros and cons...

68 Chevelle horsepower 325HP
78 Camaro 500HP
My Chevelle looks a lot nicer...even with the current damage.
Both are considered "classics" and are modified, although the Camaro has other mods that are strictly for drag racing.
My Chevelle "pulls" pretty good when moshing the throttle, the Camaro will get away from you if you don't know what you're doing. Upon heavy throttle, the Camaro will shove you back in your seat.
It needs slicks, as street tires will burn
Both are street legal. Chevelle sounds tough and a little on the loud side, the Camaro will annoy the shit outa most people and set off car alarms down the street. (it doesn't bother me)

My Chevelle is still worth more money. Cars like mine go for anywhere from $8000.00 to 20 grand!
Those Camaro's go for $5000.00 to about 8grand.

The Camaro is for sale currently $5.500.00
I've turned down offers for mine at $10.000

I actually have a tattoo on my left arm "SS396" which is an exact duplicate of the badges on the front and rear of my Chevelle. Badges were removed and traced to create an authentic as possible tat.

Both get about the same gas milage, but the Camaro needs the highest octain to run right. In fact, it should be running racing fuel.
It also has the hookups for Nitrous Oxide. All you need is the bottle.
With a little more tuning of suspension and quality slicks, it could be a 10 second car.

NHRA(Nation Hot Rod Association) has rules for faster cars requiring the faster cars to feature roll bars, this Camaro is just slightly under that.
Still, it would benifit from at least a 4 point roll cage.

I don't know.
If I had the motor(from the Camaro) my Chevelle would be one of the fastest cars around, and still look totally kick ass.

Like I said, I'm weighing it all out in my mind. Plus, I still don't know if I'm going to be compensated for the damages done to my car.

Hmmm. That's a tough one.

If you really want to drag race at the track, then the Camaro looks like the way to go. On the other hand, without seeing it, I'd day the Chevelle has more 'style'. Plus, you have that tattoo...

Does this guy want to trade despite the damage to your car, or would you have to repair the damage first?

He's seen the damage, and the trade would "as is".

(the damage is bad, but not "that bad") its all repairable in other words.
If I had about $2000.00 I could get the car repaired/repainted and you would never know it was ever damaged.

hmm.. not too sure, Chevelle sure is nice, but the repairs would cost alot, Sure the Cameo is not as nice but you'll have a fully equiped car.

Would you mod the Cameo btw?

If it'll eventually come to the Chevelle repair price, I'd tough it out and keep the Chevelle.

The Camaro doesn't need any more mods. This was the route I was planning with my Chevelle. Basically a kick ass street machine.

Now that I've seen the Chevelle, I'd tell you to keep it! It defiantly outclasses the Cameo 8)

Awesome factor +10

Mmmm... love camaros.

I personally like the camaro, however your Chevelle definitely does look better as a whole. What ruins the camaro for me is that it is setup for drag racing. I hate little front tires.

Are you really going to be taking it drag racing? If not, why bother even considering it? If so, it might be the car for you. What will you be doing more: driving around down or going to the strip?

Also, are you sure it's got 500HP? I couldn't find anything on that page. It only said that his push rods are rated up to 500. If he's at that point, I'd be wary of bending them and having to pull the engine. More so if you really do plan on juicing it.

Do you ever drive fast around corners in your chevelle? You would not be doing that in this car unless you want to pull a tree out of the front end (unless you got another set of tires).

I think you'd really miss your baby. Although, $5500... that doesn't sound too bad.
My Chevelle "pulls" pretty good when moshing the throttle, the Camaro will get away from you if you don't know what you're doing.
That's part of the fun! :) I busted my tires loose at around 75'sh on tuesday. Scared the shit out of myself.

Don't think in terms of $. What are you going to be happiest driving around in.

Buy the camaro and keep the chevelle! Then get another tatoo for the other arm!

Get em both.

Y'know L.Shark, I 'am thinking of that too!
I could sell off most of my video games to buy the Camaro. I could swap out engines. Chevelles 327 for the Camaro's 383 Stroker(full roller). Rebuild/overhaul the 327 and drop it in the Camaro!

I could then sell the Camaro if I wanted to.

BTW: I'm not crazy about "runners"(skinny drag tires) either. I prefer to be able to actually steer!!!

dude, your car is a classic already.

that camaro may or may not be a classic in 10 years time.

i'd say stick with the sure bet.

BTW: i'm not too big on "muscle cars" (sorry if that's an incorrect term for your car), but your car is sick. it looks really classy and i'm sure it's a beast on the road as well. best of both worlds. but, that camaro, looks like a beast, and performs like a beast. it's a little too much for my tastes.
say, by the way...

and in the meantime, it's gone away....

Thanks for the support guys.
Yes, my Chevelle is a "Muscle Car", and it will only be worth more money in 10 years. (it already is)
I like the Camaro as well, but its not my favorite year by far. I prefer a 1967 Camaro over anything.

BTW: Any car over 25 years is a "classic", so even this 78 Camaro is in that catagory. Still, my Chevelle is WAY more "rare".

I'll keep my baby. The whole accident/rear ended thing has got me all weird.

On a good note, the guy who crashed into my car is ashamed of himself, and told the other members of the club that he wants to help me and work things out. He's gratefull that he's not in jail for DWI and causing an accident. (full penalty)=FUCKED!

He's a free man, and he owes me big time.
He's also banned from hanging out at the car club presidents house!!!
These guys have my back, which makes me feel alot better.
They're all on my side!
Maybe they'll make good on it, and help me out any way that they can?
After all, thats what car clubs are supposed to be about.

Good Karma should be with me be now...we'll see I guess.
I gotta have faith too.

When its all said and done...(he pays for my damages!) I will shake his hand and thank him for being responsible. I cannot be friends with him though, but I will forgive him.

I wish you luck on your rebuild. Hopefully you can at least have fun doing that. Working on your baby is always fun.

I have another ~$1000 in parts showing up on tuesday and wednesday (suspension work!). I can't wait.

I'd love a camaro like that, but I'd swap out the tires for street tires. $5500 would be REALLY tempting. I'd be looking for something wrong with it for that price.

BTW, don't sell your games. You can't always take your car out and will need something else to do when it rains ;)
