Shikigami no Shiro PS2 - "Wait" option?

Post by BIL »

Does the PS2 port of the first SNS include a Wait (Slowdown) on/off option? I notice the PC one has it. If not, does anyone know how accurate to the original edit: G-Net version the PS2 one is considered, in general? Thanks for any help, looking to pick up a PS2 copy of this.

The original Shikigami No Shiro was on the PSX based G-Net hardware.

 I'd just posted that it was a G-Net game the other day too. Thanks, corrected it.

I hope you aren't after the US version of it. If so, stick to PC.

It also has an animated intro exclusive.

No, I'm well aware of Mobile Light Force 2.

Actually, going by this review of MLF2, it has the Wait option much like SNS2's relatively unmolested US version did. So I'm guessing the original NTSCJ version of SNS1 has the option too. Anyway, just bought a copy, so will edit an answer into the title post when I get it, on the off chance anyone else wanted to know.

Yup, definately has a wait option.
Fun fact: I had played lots, and lots of the MLF 2 version, and plenty of the second, for years, with the wait off. I was perplexed by this option, asking myself, why would I want to wait? What do they want me to wait through? No, I don't want to wait, option off... Yeah, about two years ago I finally found out by reading the glossary here what that meant. Starting clearing the second no prob, and I am getting close on the first. That big of a difference for the two games I am the most familiar with overall.
I had only realized that cj iwakura's sig was the most awesome link for Shiki in existence until about a week ago. I had really tried a ton of google searches trying to find the name of the final boss in the first, Shoujo. The second form is my all time favorite boss fight. Finding your info was really exciting for me, the two US releases are my favorite series. I would normally play with the story off anyway, but I really should try the second's story once in awhile.
Thanks for the work on things like the glossary, and all the fan work that is also out there guys!
Oh, and great buy there! The game is hella fun, the different chara's give you a good option as far as play styles go.

And I haaaate fighting Shoujo. Epic fight, but dang she's a pain.

While we're on the topic (or, while you guys are), does anybody know how accurate the PC and PS2 ports of Shiki 2 are compared to the PCB? I've always been curious about that.

BER, an experienced SNSII player, has commented on the PS2 port having some inaccuracies here (further links in his post) as well as in the game's current Hi Score forum thread.

I've never played the PCB, unfortunately. It was the hilariously awful localization of SnSII that got me into the series.

Thanks for the link. I don't plan on ever playing the PCB, but it was always something I wondered about.

Funny story, I actually got into the series first with the PC version of Shiki 2, so for a long time I knew nothing of the horrible localization. It wasn't until I saw some youtube videos that I realized what kind of awesomeness I was missing out on!

SnSIII Wii doesn't get nearly enough attention, but it should for the opposite reason; the dubbing is genuinely hilarious. It had a fantastic localization.

BIL, please post any thoughts you have about the game as you take on the PS2 port. Just today I parted with the G-Net version because it wasn't the graphics-upgrade over the ports I had hoped for. My PS2 port has a cute witch toy that came with it, so I'm going to stick to that from now on. The original Xbox got some varied ports, but I haven't thought about those in some years now.

Woot woot, got my copy and played it a bit this morning. Seems exactly like the PC version at a glance - since third_strike says the PS2, PC and MAME versions are pretty much the same, I'm more than happy.

Regarding the game itself, as a casual Shiki player I like that it's got some pretty fast bullet patterns... the 2-1 tank boss' enclosure attack wouldn't be out of place in Raiden. Makes the grazing quite thrilling. The pace overall feels quicker too - I like the three-part stages with a boss battle in each. And the BGM is really damn good, too! Crackin' samba-ish backbeats in the first two stages. Anyway, another G-Net port for the collection. I kind of want XII Stag now.
