I hope ya'll have seen "Snake In The Eagle's Shadow". It's directed by Master Ping (of The Matrix' fight Choreography fame). I have a hard time deciding which one is better, Drunken Master or SITES. It's like deciding between The Killer and Hard Boiled.

The Killer for me. Charlie Chong I am going to ignore your post, for I usually value your taste in fine films, but that just broke my heart.

I like John Woo, but want to give props to your left handed compliment to Charlie Chong. A lot of his posts are awesome and he has pretty cool tastes. Took me too long to catch on to his awesome sensibilities.

That said, I'm watching the goddamn owl movie again (GDOM!) via netflix. Read half the crack-tastic books since I watched it in the theatre. Yes, I like dreck. Anyway, GDOM is fucking way better than Krull, so fuck all yous.

Well the animation is REALLY incredible. The designs are good too. Seriously, if you can forget however old you are and remember when you were 10, then watch this as some kind of amazing hybrid of nimh and dark crysal or something, I think you'll totally dig it. Needs a heavy metal soundtrack.

Edit: ugh, forgot the goddamn music montage. *sighs* My inner 10 year old doesn't need that kind of abuse.

Saw True Grit Remake.
I'm still against the laziness of remakes. The script and screenplay already there for people to copy.
The Coen brothers did this with The original Ladykillers as well. Plus the sacrilege of The Pink Panther remake is beyond words (not Coen Bros).
Apart from that, Jeff Bridges was top notch as usual and Matt Damon was good also. I still argue that he only has one level, like Ben Affleck and Shia LeBland.
The script was a little too eloquent to be believed, but it sure was puurty.

Watched Precious last night.

Hmm, it's watchable and interesting, and I liked elements of it. It suffers a bit from melodrama and feels a bit unbalanced because of it, like it's trying too hard to shove the audience in a direction that the state of affairs in the movie was capable of achieving by itself.

Not great, but worth a watch.

But the new True Grit isn't based on the old script or screenplay.

It's hard to call it a remake when it they went back to the book and reinvented it from the ground up. That and the original apparently was a very poor adaptation of the book.

Ive watched a shitton of movies lately. Had a small b-movie marathon with my buddies, where we watched 9 movies in a row, and then 2 movies in the theatre last week, and yesterday 1 on the couch with my girlfriend :)

my super short 2 line review of the movies Ive watched,..

b-movie marathon:
Machete
- super awesome. A lot better than I expected. Filmed in that grainy grindhouse way. Danny Trejo is looking hella old though. A lot of well known actors showed up which surprised me.
Friday 13th part 7
- Not the worst in the series, but still pretty forgettable. Same old, same old.
Halloween part 5
- direct sequel to Halloween part 4. Jason comes back to finish off his little niece. And docter loomis finally punches out.
Jack Brook's Monster Slayer
- Surprisingly good. The vibe I got from this was much like Idle Hands. Same kind of humor, and Robert Englunds acting was top notch.
Childs Play 1
- Haven't watched this for about 10 years. I dont remember it to be as fast paced as this? Still very good.
Return of the Living Dead
- Funny take on a zombie apocalypse. We finally get an explanation as to why the zombies want to eat human brains. I also think its the first time Ive ever heard a zombies moan "BRAAAAINZ!" in a movie.
Deadly Prey
- Oh GAWD! so much testosterone. Most manly movie Ive ever seen. The acting is so bad its good. and I like how the whole movie was shot in like 5 locations. A bit hard to sit through at times though.
The Man With the Screaming Brain
- a movie written and directed by the man himself, Bruce Campbell. This movie was actually quite good. Bruce was good as always, and the story was rather funny.
Skyline
- This movie is all build-up. I love build up, but it just seems like something is missing, and the ending was stupid. Pulled a district 9, but it didn't work at all

Theatre:
Due Date
- Nothing special, but it kept me entertained for the duration of the film. It had its funny moments.
Klovn the Movie
- danish comedy, very entertaining

Couch:
Shutter Island
- Only thing I ever heard about this movie, was that it was good and quite scary. I didn't think it was scary at all, but I do agree that it was very good. Really makes you think as you continue through the story, and the ending was very satisfying. I dont really know how to tell anything about this movie without spoiling it. It a must see in my book 8)

That is quite incredible CMoon

As for the new True Grit. You can call it another name 'an adaptation' because the Cohen Brothers can do no wrong, but I'll still call it a remake when the girl falling into the snake pit and Rooster charging guns blazing reminds me of the John Wayne film.

Skykid wrote;

Personally I wouldn't go as far as that. Like I said, I think he can act, but in a 1 dimensional, 1 level, no highs no lows, no charisma kind of way. Better than Affleck (as an actor), same as Shia LeBland.
Many Hollywood actors get there through nepotism, Nick Cage -> FFCoppola's nephew, Emilio & Charlie Sheen, Keifer Sutherland (although I do rate him), Angelina -> her father Jon Voight, etc. But just when you think that Shia LeBland got to where he is through his own extraordinary skills - you find that Jon Voight had taken him under his wing and put him forward in the first place.
Matt Damon seems to have made his own way though, so I must at least rate him for that.

Just checked out the sci-fi flick of Outlander that came out back in 2008. Even though it's situated in 709 A.D., the super advanced technology that the alien vistor has access to is cool. The mysterious alien creature that the main character battles sure does have a lot of tricks up it's sleeves. Is it unbeatable or are there no known weaknesses? The ending is interesting in how it plays out considering the main character, ultimately, decides his own fate. So be it.

I watched 'Mad Max' last night, and realized I had never seen it before. Thought I had, but it was 'The Road Warrior'. Anyways, it was ok, a fun crazy ride, but nothing special.

Also watched the original 'Assault on Precinct 13', which was pretty awesome. It had it all: excessively long gun fights, bad one liners and what stood out the most for me was a point blank shooting of a little girl at an ice cream truck.....BLAM! They just don't make them like that anymore. Another added bonus was the excellent John Carpenter soundtrack, showing off early synthesizers and drum machines.

Also watched 'The Prisoner' with Jackie Chan. This one was a bit of a disappointment, as it had Jackie Chan on the cover, but he was a secondary character that felt tacked on for his star power, but really did nothing to the overall story. Nothing spectacular here.

Last weekend I watched 'Dead Rising', which was a video game spinoff from Capcom. I'm not familiar with the game, but it had zombies so I was willing to give it a chance. It was really bad! And what made it even worse was it obviously had a budget and wasn't produced on nothing by unknowns, so it should have been better. Story was bad, the acting was worse and the way they jumped around time wise was confusing in parts and annoying the whole way through. Avoid this one!

Ah yes, Endhiran (aka. Robot). The only Bollywood movie that's ever grabbed my interest. If you think that part was weird, check out the trailers that show the song and dance routines. I'm hoping for a western release of this one.

Outlander is a seriously under-appreciated movie. Even with its SF take on the tale, it's probably my favourite version of Beowulf.

Just re-watched The Godfather after however many countless years. I know that so many people think this is one of the greatest movies of all time and Americans in general have a giant boner for it, but seriously, I don't understand why this is better than a rather lengthy list of other 10/10 movies. And by that I mean that clearly The Godfather IS a great film. I definitely appreciated it more this time (being older), but also put it among a bunch of films that are both great, but difficult to watch regularly (Citizen Kane, 2001). I just don't get why so many people elevate it on a platform above so many other grat films. *shrugs*

Going to watch "The hole" tonight perhaps.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

It's a movie that I'd seen bits of on TV for years, but only bothered to watch all of recently. Yes, it's good, but seriously over-rated.

Because people are sheep, they just don't know it.
If everyone says it's the best film ever, it must be.

I think it's got good bits (a great Brando performance - no change there), but christ, it's drawn out, overly long and boring. Okay if you have the patience, but not a masterpiece in my book.

OT:

Watched Beijing Bicycle last night in the spirit of Chinese New Year - now that really is a masterpiece. What a great movie.
The film has a heartbeat between the characters and the city, with the bike being an allegorical symbol of an opportunity to progress out of the post cultural revolution mire. This was a real bit of film and filmmaking. Don't be a sheep, forget that Godfather business, go watch a real movie. :)

these people who say the godfather is boring and overlong have no patience at all.when i watched it the first time i wanted it to go on longer. praising john woo but slagging the godfather is just silly.
i don't think the godfather is a masterpiece of acting or very artistic but it is a great very atmospheric gangster film that is equal with the very best in the genre.

That's not saying a great deal as to why it's on such a pedestal.

Recently watched....

The Street With No Name - A good example of the old school noir, with Richard Widmark playing an awesome gangster. One of my favorites I've seen.

The Dark Corner - Good, if cliche riddled, noir notable for starring Lucille Ball.

The Rite - Just awful. Moves like molasses, the main character has all the charisma of a cardboard box and the pay off at the end with Anthony Hopkins is pretty cartoonish. Fail.

Inception - Good but overlong action movie. The whole dream state thing was a clever way to have 3 different action pieces going on at the same time but I didn't think it particularly cerebral or thought inducing.
Feedback will set you free.
