Re: Sooooooo.... ROM Swapping DOJ to Make it Black Label...
News travels fast.
Yes, a EPROM can be burnt to upgrade a WL in to a BL PCB. The ddb10.u45 file from the Black Label MAME ROM has been modified to remove the NVRAM checks. The code will be released at some point in the near future. At the moment there is no way to differentiate the substitute ROM from an original BL PCB. Which probably isn't a good thing.

Well, if it were me, I'd get the updated? ROMs for my BL PCB so it wouldn't suicide.yosai wrote:News travels fast.

Or buy a WL PCB so I could get it upgraded.
Wonder if the price on a DOJ will go up cause of this?

I hope whoever's doing this changes it in some way to make it very clear what it is, like making one of those version string dots into an exclamation point or something.
Re: Sooooooo.... ROM Swapping DOJ to Make it Black Label...
BL PCB's have a BL sticker on the chip by the BIOS. That's a start.StarCreator wrote:I hope whoever's doing this changes it in some way to make it very clear what it is, like making one of those version string dots into an exclamation point or something.

If you want to put this into the wild, please add some kind of indication on the region screen.yosai wrote:Yes, a EPROM can be burnt to upgrade a WL in to a BL PCB. You can change the year to 2011, add three dots at the end, set the date to todays etc.
Just make it possible to detect...

There is, on the region screen the text is deliberately altered.rtw wrote:If you want to put this into the wild, please add some kind of indication on the region screen.yosai wrote:Yes, a EPROM can be burnt to upgrade a WL in to a BL PCB. i like the hack version warning.i don't have a black label pcb myself but i was anxious to see how it would be handled to keep out people wanting to profit off converting white labels.

I agree. Enough sacrilege has been performed in the after market as it is, what with Progear bootlegs and such.charlie chong wrote:i like the hack version warning.i don't have a black label pcb myself but i was anxious to see how it would be handled to keep out people wanting to profit off converting white labels.

I take it the BL suicide issues will be a non-issue on a converted standard board?

Re: Sooooooo.... ROM Swapping DOJ to Make it Black Label...
Guess I will be buying DOJ again real soon
How soon until it is available, and if it's not 'off-limits' to ask, who is working on this? This is the first I'm hearing of it. I guess it was bound to happen once the mame dumps were made available.

Re: Sooooooo.... ROM Swapping DOJ to Make it Black Label...
I take it you finally found a copy then?
Re: Sooooooo.... ROM Swapping DOJ to Make it Black Label...
Found a BL pcb? Not yet - though I do have a deal I'm working on. May have to rethink this. Cheaper + no suicide battery = big win.

That was my though as well.drboom wrote:Cheaper + no suicide battery = big win.
Re: Sooooooo.... ROM Swapping DOJ to Make it Black Label...
So are original BL PCBs gunna drop in price?
Or do you think plan white label ones will rise?

Pictures paint a thousand palms.

Re: Sooooooo.... ROM Swapping DOJ to Make it Black Label...
If any of you guys do this, make sure you check the original PCB's PRGROM to see if it's different from the known ones.
<RegalSin> It does not matter, which programming language you use, you will be up your neck in math.
Re: Sooooooo.... ROM Swapping DOJ to Make it Black Label...
Both. BL will drop a lot, WL will gain a bit.Vyxx wrote:So are original BL PCBs gunna drop in price?

Re: Sooooooo.... ROM Swapping DOJ to Make it Black Label...
So uh, WTB DOJ PCB plz.
But really, if you had an original DOJ PCB couldn't you just put a hacked BL ROM in and hang on to the original ROM for completeness?

That's what is happening. :think:bitkid wrote:So uh, WTB DOJ PCB plz.

Re: Sooooooo.... ROM Swapping DOJ to Make it Black Label...
Putting this hacked rom on an original BL board will erase the NVRAM, suiciding the board, so you wouldn't be able to put the original rom back on without rtw's service. So it doesn't make sense for BL owners to do that.yosai wrote:That's what is happening. :think:bitkid wrote:So uh, WTB DOJ PCB plz.

As for price fluctuations, who the hell cares, you are buying the board to play the game in a cab, not form a retirement plan. Prices will essentially stay the same. BL has been slowly dropping in price over the last few years anyway due to most of them needing to be de-suicided.
Re: Sooooooo.... ROM Swapping DOJ to Make it Black Label...
This thread is about putting a hacked BL ROM in a WL PCB.

That's not true. The ROM has only been hacked to remove the NVRAM check, it doesn't alter the NVRAM contents.Dave_K. wrote:Putting this hacked rom on an original BL board will erase the NVRAM, suiciding the board

Re: Sooooooo.... ROM Swapping DOJ to Make it Black Label...
This is a fascinating thread regarding the ability to convert such a plain-vanilla DDP-DOJ PCB into a BL variant one. The only thing is it will require getting to the 2nd loop to see what changes were made (compared to the 2nd loop run on a DDP-DOJ WL PCB setup). I had a DDP-DOJ WL PCB up & running at the 2010 CAX show for both days and it was cool to see many folks try it out.
Slighty OT -- Will Cave ever allow DDP-DFK PCB owners the opportunity to get their DFK 1.0 or 1.5 version PCBs upgraded to version 1.51 anytime soon?
