SNK Arcade Classics 0

Post by BulletMagnet »

Not exclusively shmup-related, but it looks like SNK Arcade Classics 0, which was first mentioned in passing some time ago but never confirmed, is coming to PSP in Japan in April (no overseas release as of now). Several (old) shmups are included, here's the full game list if you don't care to click the link:
Athena
Psycho Soldier
Ikari Warriors
Dogosoken
Ikari III: The Rescue (overseas version)
Guerrilla War
Marvin’s Maze
P.O.W.
Search and Rescue
Street Smart
Gold Medalist
Super Championship Baseball (overseas version)
Touchdown Fever
ASO
Bermuda Triangle
HAL 21
Prehistoric Isle in 1930
Sasuke vs. Commander
T.A.N.K.
Vanguard 2

Although all the games are before 1990, if SNK Playmore had chosen more three shmups in the place of sports games, this collection would be perfect.

I hope they're going to do more than just a PSP version. The previous collection also had PS2 and Wii releases. I can understand that PS2 is pretty much out now, but a Wii or 360 version would be great.

Cool, there are a few games there I'm interested in. Not looking forward to playing Prehistoric Isle on my OG PSP's crappy dpad :/
Hope it's available on the online shop, it's sure as heck not going to make it to retail in New Zealand.

Some of these games are good, some are really really bad (hello Athena), but if this comes stateside, I'll buy it. I can't seem to find SNK Arcade Classics 1 PS 2 locally, but I did find the PSP version somewhere, and it's still there.

How playable is Ikari/II with a single stick?

Ikari will probably have the bumper buttons rotate your character like Forgotten Worlds did on the Capcom compilation for PSP.

Finally I'll be able to play Ikari 1-2 on my PSP without messing around with questionable ROMs and crappy emus...

Nice collection. I'll definitely buy if it's released on any non-handheld console or PC.

That would be interesting. I was wondering what approach they would take with so many rotary stick games in that list.

Assuming SNK does a decent porting job, anyways.

I would definitely be interested in this for a regular console. I could show the kiddies what two-player cooperative really means.

Arcade version of Athena isn't so bad, and without it we would never have got Psycho Soldier! <3

There are a few games here that I wouldn't mind having for my PSP, but I'm not sure I'd pay full whack for it. I got Vol. 1 for £15 (almost $25) and I don't think I'd be willing to pay as much as that for Vol. 0.

Now, if they released a Vol. 2 with the likes of Savage Reign, Last Blade, Kizuna Encounter, Cyber-Lip, Blazing Star, Ninja Masters, Ninja Commando, etc., then we'd be talking. But since the newer Neo Geo games are being released individually on the PSN store, the chances of another compilation seem slim.

It looks like they may well be releasing for ps2 too? ... Or is that just some websites mixing it up for me?

I have good memories of playing Cyber-Lip at Fuddruckers as a kid. When I saw the announcement, I immediately scanned the list for it. Oh well.

A ps2 version would be really nice! 2player! :P
But if not...I'll guess a psp-version will do...vol 1 is the best collection disc I have...
