R-type Dimensions, jerky!!
R-type Dimensions, jerky!!
It's really incredible. I suppose you have noticed that the ship and the movement in general in this game has hiccups all the time. It's the same as emulating the game in a non-patched MAME, due to the fact that it's a 55hz game in a 60hz monitor. Could the developers be so stupid to believe that the original game performed like that and copy that behaviour in the remake? It's a shame, because the remake is nice, but the jerkyness spoils it all. Therefore, it's no longer in my shopping list.
Re: R-type Dimensions, jerky!!
Weird.
I didn't notice any jerkiness att all when I played it.

I'd say something's wonky with your setup. I cleared the game without a single hiccup.

The game is definitely a tad jerky, just like in mame when playing in 60hz. You might not notice it though, I don't know. It's hard to miss once you spot it.
Also, patched mame?

I think by "patched MAME" he means MAME with "Sync to monitor refresh" option enabled (speeds R-Type up to 60 fps on a 60 Hz screen etc.).

Re: R-type Dimensions, jerky!!
While it is a bit of a letdown I don't think it ruins the game.
What sucks though is that you cannot reassign controls. It was very akward to play on the hori EX2. Really bad. Now I have a SE tho, probably better as the buttons are placed like on a normal pad.
The worst thing is that the R-type 2 version is the easy rom one. Afterwards I tried the game on a friend's PCB to show him it was actually possible, and got owned from behind by ennemies I never saw. Didn't touch the game since. Pissed me off.

R-Type Dimensions was a shitty, farmed-out, botched project all around. What other shmup lets you shrink the screen into a tiny fidgeting box, or has simultaneous multi that the game wasn't designed for?

I don't think adding multiplayer to a game, even if it wasn't designed for it, is ever a bad thing. Worse case scenario, it sucks and you just don't use the 2p option. Even then, I'd still rather have it there, so that a friend and I can laugh at its shittyness together!Estebang wrote:R-Type Dimensions was a shitty, farmed-out, botched project all around. That being said, I didn't mind this game all that much. Gimmicky, yes. But I was entertained by playing with a friend, and fucking them over by changing the game from 2d to 3d, and back again. Then again, I never played either of these games in their original format, so my opinion is fairly moot.
Re: R-type Dimensions, jerky!!
That's a solution, although, if I remember well, the sound was wrong with it enabled. I meant modifying the source to force games to run at 60hz.I think by "patched MAME" he means MAME with "Sync to monitor refresh" option enabled (speeds R-Type up to 60 fps on a 60 Hz screen etc.).
Re: R-type Dimensions, jerky!!
I love R-Type Dimensions. I can look past all the problems you guys said about it and still highly enjoy it. I have played about 60 hours and still play it. I really like it. It would be perfect if there was a little less lag online. I am sorry to hear so many of you hate it.

It's definitely still enjoyable and the graphic update is really well done.

Re: R-type Dimensions, jerky!!
I didn't notice any jerky movement in this port, but it does feel like the hit detection is off. I want to buy it, but not for $15.. I'll stick with R-Types.
Re: R-type Dimensions, jerky!!
It's been a plan of mine to make a 2-player 1LC superplay video of R-Type, but sadly the lag when playing online makes it rather frustating.
