PC Shmups with in-game shop?
Hi,
I'm a BIG fan of the in-game shop, for upgrading weapons especially. What games are out there?

Jets 'n' Guns features an extensive shop with all sorts of hilarious weapons and combinations. Now, if you can get past its "euroshmup" feeling, it's a nice game.
You also have Diadra Empty, which features an upgrade section at the end of each chapter. And now that I mention that, the game it is inspired from, called Fantasy Zone, has a similar shop mechanic.
Razor2 Hidden Skies (available on Steam) also has a shop but the game is a disaster so I wouldn't really take it into account.

NOW REACHES THE FATAL ATTRACTION BE DESCRIBED AS "HELLSINKER". DECIDE DESTINATION.

If your ok emulating, The DreamCast version of Mars Matrix has exactly the same shop system as Crimson Clover, its probably where Yotsubane got the idea from
The only other shmup that I know of that has anything simlar to MM and CC would be Genetos with all the unlockable extras.
As for ingame shops like in trouble witches its mostly a horizontal shmup thing and is used in euroshmups and in old cute em up horis like Fantasy Zone

Fantasy Zone, Ordyne, Magical Chase, Forgotten Worlds, Area 88/U.N. Squadron (at least the SNES port, reportedly superior to the arcade original)...

Yeah, your options widen up if you dip into emulation.
Mr Heli has a shop system that doesn't have a separate screen like Forgotten Worlds et al - power ups have a price on them and you just fly over them to buy them.
Rohga Armor Force doesn't have a shop per se but it has a very cool customisation screen.
Wizball has a gradius-style power up system, but at the end of each level you can select abilities to 'lock in' even when you die, so that may qualify. There's a great Windows remake, give that a try: http://retrospec.sgn.net/game-links.php?link=wizball

Damn, Austin beat me to it.
Tyrian.
You can get it for either Windows, Mac, Android mobile phone or Nintendo Wii (if you have homebrew installed).
Its commonly known for being a 'bad euroshmup' but really it's okay to play if you learn which weapons are useless and which ones rock. Arcade mode's a bit more easier to find said weapons though.

This is supposed to be one of my favourite shooters - how on earth did I not list this? Damn. Great game - play this, OP.dsheinem wrote:Lords of Thunder
There's an arcade shooter I'm trying to remember, either by UPL or NMK, that had a shop. Worked like U.N. Squadron's. It's not Zed Blade, but I remember it being similar. Will have a look when I get home.

Nope the one im thinking of is something else. It has more of a kiddies cartoon look of them where the helicopters (or was it planes?) have actual faces. The game has an Dr Robotnik / Rocket Knight type baddie who acts as an end of level boss, Hes also an helicpoter / plane character aswell
