I agree while I havnt played Soukyugurentai yet but Layer Section and Kamui are 2 of my favorite shmups I just love the lock on mechanic. Add that to modern Cave bullet hell design and you have one damn fine game.
I'd kill for a full-TATE AC version. Cave should get this guy on board and give him full reign. Yotsubane's ideas and style are very fresh and much-needed in an almost stagnant genre.
While It more then deserves to be in a cab in the arcades, Im actually fine with it been without TATE. Its to do with expectation, as this is a doujin game I can forgive it for not been in Tate, However im totally different when it comes to commercial vert shmups I absolutly have no intrest in playing a MAME vert or a new arcade vert if it isnt in TATE. Thats why im so bummed out with Bullet Soul possibly not hving TATE and the fact that I stuck with doujin and PC shmups and ignored MAME for a full year after catching the shmup bug due to the fact that I wouldnt risk TATEing my monitor untill I bought a 2nd montor.

Maybe we could try politly asking Yotsube if he wouldnt mind creating a special TATED version or even better a Black Label with full TATE which he could sell for £10 - £15 im sure shmup nuts would snap it up. I sure hope he continues making shmups that guy is a real talent whose better then ZUN and could be another Yagawa if he ever went pro, Cave might be the best place for him but imagine if another shmup dev house head hunted him.

Yotsubane would make a wicked match for 5PB considering theyre the new kids on the block and want to make a name for themselves as a good alternative for Cave fans

EDIT: Its probably been posted but just incase it hasnt heres a video about an stage 5 boss infinate lives glitch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scbGyZMt ... re=related

Whaaaat? For me it got kinda boring after 17 hours. Needs more content. Like, Extra Stage or something.

I see what you did there. :P

I think the only one that managed to do the perfect balance was Hellsinker, but only by coating everything under 500m of on-LSD action.

Crimzon Clover could've used some small tribute Extra Stage but, as it is, it's perfect. Action packed as hell, no filler shit. You just get enough "pauses" to catch your breath after hammering buttons nonstop.

Treasurance, you know it's stupid to call out a shmup for being short. The point of these games is to get high scores and keep on improving. I hardly think that learning scoring could be boring.

Also, I've noticed that my game is suddenly very jerky. It says it's displaying at 60 fps, but I highly doubt that. It's not much slower, but tends to pause and then suddenly move forward about a second ahead with no warning. It's almost unplayable in this state, and with all the slowdown I don't think any of my runs would be considered valid.
I've tried setting all the effect levels to off and so on, but nothing. I've been playing for 20 hours, and all of a sudden the game is behaving differently. It's strange, to say the least.

The only shmup I've played that felt too short was Samidare.
What I'm saying is that it would be cool to have some additional modes besides the main game. Or even better, MINIGAMES

Oh, and HELLSINKER's the perfect game ever anyways

For people wanting extra stages etc.; there's always euroshmups and touhou. CC is more of an arcade experience than the average doujin. I wouldn't say around 40 minutes long 1 loop game lacks of content. Specially with 3 ships and 3 difficulties/modes. Look at DDP and Garegga; those games have been voted for the best shmup for quite a few times and neither of those games have exactly that much extra content.

I'm very happy how the game turned out to be. I wouldn't trade 40 minute game for 30 minute game with a 10 minute extra stage.

Samidare doesn't feel short when you play for score either. You'll be glad it isn't much longer than 15 minutes main game or extra since it's so much memorization based.

And more people still need to play HELLSINKER, it's awesome. Too bad the EX2 stage is somewhat pointless for other than just blowing it through once since it completely lacks any kind of scoring.

Made you look, now go play HELLSINKER

I don't mean any 10 minute long Touhou extra, I mean something almost impossible like Ketsui DL's extra. Well, maybe without the luck aspect (but it wouldn't be almost impossible then?). Just something that isn't nearly as long as Unlimited but still manages to keep people challenged for several months at least.

...there should be a cult dedicated to HELLSINKER.

It really is aside from the nearly-incomrehensible scoring system. CC is right up there with it for sure, though.

Is there already a fix for playing with a HRAP2 via a PS2 > USB converter?
Joy2Key doesn't seem to help.

Once I fixed my input lag issues this game has started to consume my life! Definitely stayed up too late last night playing this with work in the morning. I was never really a fan of the lock on mechanic but I think it is awesome in this game.

Ugh, what the flying shit.

I'm running a Lenovo Y560p with Win7x64, an Intel Core i7, 6 GB of RAM, an AMD Radeon HD 6570M, and a native resolution of 1366x768. So what does the game do when the action gets heavy? It drops frames. EVEN THOUGH THE FPS COUNTER READS 60.0.

And I'm not talking about soft-slow / deliberately-implemented slowdown, the game is still running at full speed and "SOFT-SLOW" doesn't appear above the FPS counter. I'm seeing my ship and bullets move like the game is only running at about 30-40 FPS. All while, again, the game's FPS counter reports that everything's just fine.

And I really don't think there's anything I can do about this. I poked around in my system's graphics settings, but the only settings I can find are for 3D, and CC sure as hell does not use polygons.

on my laptop with 7 I made it run in compatibility mode for XP and it improved it a lot. Not perfect, but it's not a top o the line machine anyway.

After watching a couple of scoring vids it seems like the key to scoring in Normal Mode is to dont hoard my breaks use them as soon as I can (within reason) and use the higher break rate to double break while in break mode rather then waiting untill both rate bars are full to double break.

I do have a question though when point blanking do I really need to get as close to the baddies as possible (IE real point blanking) or can I put alittle space between me and the other ship? (atm I "point blank" with a space between half and a full span of my ship.)

And I've only just realised that in Simple Mode if you take the Stars reward at the end of each stage instead of the Extend then it greatly increases your Item Get Bonus and thus your score (giving you an extra Extend anyway into the bargain)!

No. Like Daioujou, Daifukkatsu and anything else with a similar boost/hyper system, it's not about using your power immediately, but planning your hyper to maximise use - ideally, you want to use it to tag all of the bigger enemies in one go, which when coupled with a high multiplier and Break Rate, gives you the majority of your points. Knowing how long Break Mode lasts, and where to start it, is the first step to getting a bigger increase in your score.

I recently picked this game up and im really enjoying it, its the most fun Ive had since ikaruga since im not a huge shmup player Ikaruga,Einhander,R-type and Crimzon are the only ones ive played so far. I have a lot of questions about this game hoping some can answer. First off.. How is the directional pad changed? I looked through the options and the data file and I cant find out how to change it so I play most of the time cross handed. It works but it's a bit uncomfortable.. Also I recently discovered you can share data and scores with each other by replacing it with someone elses playdata notepad, saying that.. im kind of looking for a fully unlocked playdata if anyone has one. Id really appreciate it!

You can certainly change button function, but IIRC not the D-pad inputs. What pad/stick are you using? I'm curious why you would want to change them.

Just some random thoughts after about a month with this.

* Hated the music at first but eventually kinda got into it, then hit the 10 hour mark and couldn't take anymore. I keep the tunes muted now and run something else in the background, usually the Tyrian or Shatter soundtrack.
* Screw stage three...just...ugh. It goes on forever.
* Still can't beat the EX boss, even on Simple mode.
* This game has the honor of finally killing the analog sticks on my five year old 360 controller. Imagine playing this with no diagonal movement whatsoever.
* Spent all morning last Saturday trying to earn the 300k points for the Type-Z ship. Finally earn enough and whoops it costs 3 million.
* Anyone ever have this happen? The bottom right arm somehow got stuck to the left side of the screen making the second to last bullet pattern impossible to dodge.

I've got a nonfunctional controller and can't stand playing shooters with a keyboard...I think I'm done until I can afford a stick of some sort. Been fun though.

Stage 3 is actually pretty short in comparison to Stage 5. Remember, the longer the stage the higher the score (most of the time).

So I'm a profesional juggler and sometimes if I drop on stage, and I let it get to me, it can lead to a whole string of drops which is no good. I found out the same is true for this game.

I no-missed up until the end of stage 3 and I think I had around 6 lives left going into stage 4. Once stage 4 started I had two stupid deaths and that really bothered me. I lost all those lives and had no remaining ships going into the boss and of course I died. I was pissed because I was doing really well in scoring and I was on track to beat my high score. Oh well.

I hope that now if I drop while juggling on stage I don't think of Crimzon Clover!

Tried to find negatives but its really hard! my only issue is having to put in my name each time. If thats the worse i can find, that tells ya something

Are you sure the analog sticks are broken? I have a 360 controller too and I've noticed that some PC games don't work well with that controller, including the no-diagonal movement. But when I use XPadder it suddenly seems fine again.

Yeah I'm sure, it's been a long time coming. That controller was around for four 360s and a huge number of PC games. Kinda surprised it even lasted that long.
