New ThunderCats show

Post by TrevHead (TVR) »

Looks like ThunderCats is getting a remake and looking at the character art seems promising http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/7 ... eries.html

Im quite hyped for this as the original along with Transformers and He Man were my favorite cartoons

If they do for this what they did for the re-made He-Man, I'm all up for it. My only criticism is that Panthro looks too much like Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop. Good thing they are going to factor in Lion-O's age and inexperience, too.

What is up with all the old toys we used to have making a comeback? Do they not make any new toy franchises anymore?

I dunno, but I vote for M.A.S.K. or Silverhawks next.

I've had my Eye of Thundera on this for some time. The new designs look good. It's still way to early to tell how this one will turn out though.

It's not that Japan can't make any new anime series; it's just that they are all shoujo anime.

I was expecting to look at the images and think the designs sucked, but actually they're surprisingly good.

Kids TV these days is so inferior to the stuff in the 80's and early 90's (and mostly dominated by celebrity guests selling their crappy single), a Thundercats revival may as well happen, they haven't got much else.

So who watched this?

I watched a random episode last night and was pretty impressed. The quality is really high and while quite far in tone from the original, it's got a nice seriousness about it and is quite palatable for adults. Some decent fights too.

Wasn't the massacre I was expecting to be honest.

I haven't had a chance to watch much of it yet, but I like what I've seen. There's something about the atmosphere of its world that reminds me of Vision of Escaflowne.

I was surprised at how much I enjoy this. The character designs for the shows assorted robots and creatures is top notch imo and the writing isn't half bad either. Try to catch the first two episodes which originally aired as an hour long pilot. Pretty epic stuff for the cartoon network. I would have gone nuts for this show as a kid.

Yeah, just got it. Beginning reminds me of Star Wars.

I think the quality is good enough that I can happily accept the original and this re-imagining co-existing as separate entities. I like the fact they whored out all animation duties to the Japanese too, really smart move.

And... holy crap, this technically qualifies as a *new* anime show that doesn't suck ass.

I've never seen a single episode of the original show, but I've been following this new one. I sorta like it, but I keep comparing it to the awesome Avatar (no, not the one about blue catmen) which I watched not too long ago and I don't think Thundercats' storytelling and characters match up to it.

Still, not a bad way to spend 20 minutes a week.

I'm up to Ep10, Ep9 (Berbils) was a bit silly and toned down the adultish way they characterized the program beforehand. I loved Drifter and swordsman one though, really cool.

If your only watching odd episodes your missing alot of back story which I enjoyed too. Like the stone in the sword, how Mumra used to be leader of the Thundercats etc etc.

I hate to divert the thread but Green Lantern has a TV series, its computer generated though, but looks pretty cool anyway in a kind of pre Pixar era of detail.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

I only watched one random ep and then started over and watched 1&2 last night. Pretty solid stuff. My only gripes are Mumra's voice actor is a touch weak (less evil sounding than the original) as are the kids who do Wiley kit and kat (you can always hear them reading off of a page - a bit too young for the job I think.)

Otherwise it was top stuff all the way.
