no problem, we ended up spending a good amount of time wondering why my monitor wasn't accepting the attenuated sound coming from iatneh's supergun.

We also spent some time messing with the internal controls of the monitor which ended up with iatneh getting a HUGE shock.

so it looks like I'm going to have to finish building my supergun with no attenuation before we have another meet. This time I'll make sure everything is working perfectly :p

not sure when we can have it since iatneh is usually super busy and probably doesn't want to look at my monitor for sometime :p

Nah, just remind me to wear dish gloves next time :)

I might not be quite so busy next year, so just let me know what you plan and I might be able to make some time.

Wow! Welcome to the forum Heartwork!

It's end of the school semester for me so I am scrambling with a course project which is due in a week. I ought to be pretty free any evening after the 14th or 15th, though it will be that little gap I get 3 times a year when I try to meet all my friends who I have not seen since my last semester break.

Hope to see you post in some of the other sections :)

I'm kind of a noob at shmups, as I've just been getting into them recently. I play Raiden III and Strikers 1945 II at CHQ sometimes, and I have R-Type Final for my PS2. What kind of stuff do you guys usually play?

ps: a friend of mine was saying there used to be a Mushihime-sama cab at CHQ. Does anyone know what happened to it?

So far the "meets" have only ever been Kingbuzzo and myself, but we don't really play for score in 2P and we do credit-feed sometimes so don't worry about being noobish.

It's been so long since the last meet so I can't remember what we played. Probably Dodonpachi dai-ou-jou and espgaluda on PS2, Under Defeat on Dreamcast, and Ibara and Ketsui on the supergun. I like to bring OutZone which is an oldie but a pure blast to play 2P.

Maybe I can try organising something in the next month.

All I know about the Futari 1.5 is that it is no longer at CHQ. I hardly ever visit anymore, and with Futari gone I don't have much of any reason to go too. Raiden III or any of the shooters they have are not really my thing.

KB and I were both into shooters early enough to have pre-orders :)

I think KB played longer than I have. I came just in time to catch the tail end of PS2 and Dreamcast new releases, most of which I pre-ordered but I sold many of them early this year. Need to save money for Real Life and such...

Do you still have any stuff you're selling? I have a DC and a PS2, though both are NTSC-U.

Wow, didn't see this at all.

But that was a big surprise! Many people were present and shmups were played. You've done a good job Kingbuzzo, thanks for hosting again.

Hi Heartwork, might be just you and I since Kingbuzzo moved east (or centre). I'll probably be busy until May, but it would be nice to meet up sometime.

Hi SNail, welcome. I haven't checked this thread much. It's now well into May and I have somehow planned short getaways every weekend this month... and there are other personal things that will demand my remaining attentional faculties afterwards. Maybe I can find some time to arrange a meet-up later this summer (after mid-July).

Thanks gct. Apparently it took me a little while to check this thread too. It's nice to meet someone else in the city (on the internet) who's into shmups. Meeting up in summer would be cool. Just curious, which games are you playing these days?

Hey guys! I'm going to move to Vancouver in August this year. Anybody up for a meet? Doesn't have to be big or overnight. :)

Allow me to give you an early welcome to Vancouver, ave. I'll see what I can do in August.

SNail, to be honest I haven't been playing much of anything for over a year, just some things once every few weeks. I stopped playing when I temporarily moved away and just haven't gotten back into shooters after moving back. Most of my free time is spent wasted away on the Internet or practicing piano, and since the weather is getting better I often go driving on the weekends. I still have a decent collection of suitable shmupmeet material though, I'm sure there will be something you like. The most recent thing I played is Judgement Silversword (X360 version), and I would like to get back into Under Defeat and Ibara.

OutZone is an essential shmupmeet co-op, but I need to build a new supergun for it. I keep putting it off, so a meet might be a good incentive for me to get started on it.

Sorry ave and others, my meet never happened. I never got around to building that new supergun, and I will be very busy over the next few weeks with my work.. but we'll see how things play out if I can take a breather from time to time.

Sorry, but I can't drive anywhere. I'm just a student with a U-pass that allows me to get around the city  I could go to Burnaby, Coquitlam, Surrey, Richmond, North Vancouver and probably even down to the Delta area, but crossing the border ain't no choice for me.

Doesn't need to be big, I'm fine with an afternoon of street fighter and shmups :D I'd host something, but I'm just living in a dorm. I have a limited amount of games that I could bring though (some PC-Engine shooters).

Hey everybody!

Supergun ready or not, I feel like I need to set a date, or else this will never happen.

I would like to host something on a Friday evening, like Oct.14 or Oct.21, I don't want to leave it too late into the semester. I can probably be ready to start by 4:30pm/16:30. The thing is, I am living with my parents still so I should let my Dad have the TV on Saturday, and it would be best if I can kick everybody out around midnight give or take. If meeting before dinner, I would just call for pizza or we can walk/drive to UBC village. The only booze I have is a variety of Mike's Hard Lemonade, if you don't like it then there is Coke & root beer, wonderful unfiltered tap water or BYOB. I don't want anyone intoxicated though. Have just enough to relax and play better ;)

I am in a house right next to UBC near Buchanan, it's a 5-7 minutes walk from the bus loop, and there is parking space in a driveway.

I have an assortment of titles on X360, Wii, and PS2, and fewer on DC, Saturn, NeoGeo. Ibara PCB is ready to go, OutZone & ESP RaDe need a supergun but can be swapped out with Ibara in a pinch. Because I'm Chinese, anything else can be pirated if you have specific requests and give me some time to prepare :x Plenty of controllers, not as many sticks, so you are welcome to bring your own.

One more thing, if playing tate PCBs, we must use a 17" computer LCD, it's the only thing I have that can rotate. Also, it has been ages since I touched any of these games so I am going to suck hard at them.

PM invitations sent to Heartwork, SNail, and ave. Other lurkers are welcome, please post here!

Wow, cool! I'm living in Vanier => 10min walking distance. I could bring Thunder Force V and Guardian Heroes for Saturn if there's a need for that.

I could bring an USB stick but I've got no idea how this could be useful for us. I use it only for MAME.

Hard sucking is a substantial part of any shmup meet.

I'm ok with either date, 14th or 21st.

Good to hear from you, ave. Actually it looks like SNail and Heartwork have not been around for several months, so if you have a trusted gaming friend in residence, you are welcome to bring him/her along. I might try to see if my brother can make it, but he doesn't really play shooters. Not this kind of shooter, anyway.

I see you are quite active in the high score boards, you might be disappointed because a long time ago I became what people here call a very casual gamer. Anyway, I'm sure I will have something here you can enjoy, and since you're so nearby I'd be happy to lend you something which would certainly get more use in your hands.

I'll wait a few more days for any more responses before firming up the date.

You've got Esprade and Outzone, so you can't be that casual :P Anyhow, I'm fine with anything, haven't played a game in ages. I'm also up for FPS splitscreen matches, just no sports games please. And anything that involves actual movement on behalf of the player

OK, I am going to say that this meet will be held on Friday, Oct.14! I actually do have a paper deadline that very evening, but I expect I can have it finished and submitted before then.

Begins 16:30, ends midnight. I probably have enough games that nobody needs to bring anything unless you have a favourite joystick or controller. I don't well in FPS but I can possibly try in small amounts. There are a number of computers here that can play Starcraft 2 to varying levels of graphic detail, as another option.

Anybody who is interested in coming but has not received a PM from me with location details, send me PM!
