The way I see it is that Guwange's first 4 stages are pretty cake once you memorize the enemy placement. 5 gets tuff half way through, and 6 is impossible since I haven't reached it many times. If I ever want to 1CC guwange, that last stage is going to take tons of practice. Also, I can't seem to settle on which character is the strongest for survival, they seem like subtle differences but nicely balanced.

also agree with that second bit, watching a superplay at the start of the snowy rooftop level they have only a few bullets to dodge, because i imagine through much practice they know exactly where to be and what to do to cancel most of the bullets, at the same point in the game i have a screen full of bullets because i don't know what i'm doing!
The better you play the easier it becomes in the sense that the better you play, the more bullets you cancel.
I always find games where you have an option other than dodging difficult to play, because that other option is almost required to navigate the game rather than something that just makes it easier for you. With that in mind the game almost becomes a puzzle where you have to work out how to use that "power" to avoid bullets rather than just dodge them.

Having real trouble with this, I really find using the shikigami causes me more problems than it solves, however in the interest of scoring I don't have much choice. Really struggling to 1cc stage 2 let alone any respectable amount of the game. I can get about halfway through the boss fight but I'll usually die. I'm aiming to chain the level; I suspect that with autoshot I could probably clear it.
Sections causing particular trouble are:
The vertical assault of spiders/plants prior to the boss..... I just don't seem to get the bullet cancellation that others manage.
The Boss' final attack (streams of "arrows" combined with blue orbs)....... I sense that once in position the streams of arrows are largely not an issue as they merely confine you to a portion of the screen and don't actually hit you, but controlling the shikigami whilst avoiding the orbs seems very difficult; I find it hard even with the mobility that auto-shot provides... any tips. (other than play better :p)

Auto-shot is quite okay, in fact its implemented in most Cave games because its really necessary for scoring behaviours to work if I read the other threads correctly. Umm not really... Using the shikigami is the key to surviving and neutralizing threats before things get ugly. Just learn the stages and preemptively plop your shiki where enemies spawn and nuke away. If you are relying on rapid fire and dodging, well, no wonder you can't get past the second stage.

I was thinking of autofire key in conjunction with that. Like how it takes longer to summon shikigami holding down A key as opposed to holding C key and then holding A.chempop wrote:Umm not really... Is there nothing else to it though? I've watched replays and they get 3-4 times as more bullet clearance than I do. The shikigami basically just causes me trouble by backing up bullets on the bosses that I can't get rid of, and just making me a sitting target in the levels, and I get more overwhelmed by using it than by just using autofire and doding. Enemies take far longer to die for me than in the replays meaning that I simply can't move that stupid thing around the screen quick enough to cover everything that appears. As a result I spend all my time trying to dodge, and getting hit, whilst trying to launch the shikigami and get some sort of control of the situation.
This is by far and away the most difficult shooter I have ever played.... by a hell of a long way. Unless something suddenly clicks into place soon I think I'm going to leave this one alone because it's difficult to the point of being ridiculous.

Have still been practicing stage 2, and gave stage 3 a few tries as well. Not doing spectacularly although I gave the game a run on arcade from stage one and got to stage 4 on one credit. IN doing this it made me realise why I'm having trouble using the training mode starting on stage 2/3 etc. When you reach these stages during arcade play your shikigami is more powerful than when you start in training on your desired stage.
I know there are some settings that can be adjusted in training related to shot power or something similar. Does anyone know what these should be adjusted to in order to get a difficulty/firepower comparable to reaching stage 2,3,4... naturally?

For those who have been asking, the Guwange patch should be available this week on XBLA. 4:3 has been added as an option called "Wide Mode" which allows you to change the aspect ratio for in-game play only. It's a bit of a workaround but we hope you find it useful.

Doesn't sound ideal. Not too fussed about the screen as my TV has zoom functions, but I hope they've fixed the other bugs too.

What were the other bugs? I haven't bought it yet because i have a 4:3 tv and couldn't be bothered playing on such a small area on screen. I'll buy it now I can play with full-screen height. I dont really care if the menus still have huge top/bottom borders.
