In response to the original answer only:
Taito, apparently, seems interested to port successful titles like Mushihime Sama, or to show the existence of a sinergy between Type-X and ports on PS2.Why is that? Because Taito has a few arcades and having people that play the game at home and then go in the arcade to show off is somewhat a good policy (meh, if anyone can find a much rational explanation, thanks in advance for posting it). Also, it will probably be the case that Taito will reprint this title, in the future, in a budget-like series, "Taito the best", in which they reprint their successful titles.
Who's Mihara? GajinPunch has posted a link in this very thread, so please at least check what people write in the thread, it happens that not every single entry is meant to be trolling (unless you're a specific user(s), and i'll stop here...).
One thing though, i would never post my own personal problems on the internet, for any reason: why people can have a laugh at my own problems?

Oh come on! Do you really not think that people alternate between oldschool and bullet-hell in their shmupping? What do you think I have a modded Saturn for, not everything on that console's oldschool?Grinning Cat wrote:My thoughts exactly.mannerbot wrote:Why do you even care when it seems, from previous posts of yours, that you don't like Cave games?
You've ranted several times about how you couldn't give a "rip" about the latest Cave releases...so what gives? Have you (finally) realized "teH oLE SkO0L ShOotArs" suck?

i'd like to think that, yes, shmups will still continue to be released on ps2 after ps3 comes out
gut feel that says that ibara will come out, and perhaps ketsui too..
the ps1 actually kept going for quite a while after the ps2 came out, the lifecyle for ps2 will actually continue for longer in comparison after ps3 launch - due to factors like higher price of ps3 on launch (apparently), more consoles actually being out there (ps2 hit sales milestones sooner than that for ps1 which shows there are now more people in the market and that the 'sunrise' will take a longer time to 'set')
not to mention the fact that sony will try to discourage publishers from bringing games like cave shooters out on their shiny new next gen format - this will force publishers and developers to bring their content out on the ps2.
perhaps at a budget price too
of course this is conjecture based on the market data etc - ps3 could come out at a really low price and blow out the ps2 market much sooner than anticipated. though i doubt this would happen because ultimately it would shrink the market - sony know this. ken kuturagi made a statement saying that ps3 would be 'expensive' this week also

Gentlemen, is it too much to ask for less idiotic comments like number of posts or old skoolz00rz stuff, or what are the next ports will be? Thanks for your cooperation.

Yeah, it's definately going to cost more then the XBOX 360, or probably even the Revolution. But, considering that it's supposed to have 2 PC graphics cards that retail for $500.00/piece, IMO, that's understandable.AAA wrote:i'd like to think that, yes, shmups will still continue to be released on ps2 after ps3 comes out

It could indeed blow the PS2 out of the water, so sometimes I wonder if I wouldn't be better off waiting for the JPS3. But so far, no shmup ports have been announced for it, and, as I've mentioned before, there may very well be a number of PS2 shmups that'll play on the PS3 with glitches, or just not work at all-given that that's the case with certain PS1 shmups with the PS2.
And that, above all, would be my main concern in getting a JPS3.

I care because you dodave4shmups wrote:Once, again, more crap. What gives with you even caring?

Seriously, take a chill pill. I fear for your blood pressure if you get this hyped up over what's said on a forum.
Umm since when has the Saturn been considered the holy grail for modern/manic shmups? It has some manics. Not many. What the heck do you think I have a Saturn for, do you think everything on that console's oldschool?

People are talking about the PS2 as if it's life is over - the reality is that Sony last I checked, don't even have finalised hardware. You've got half of 2005 and half of 2006 to go yet. Given that games seem to be coming out now at an increased rate (comparatively), there could well be other interesting releases on this system.
I'll be honest - discounting Japan which is totally different as a market - while Sony are huge I think Microsofts market share is going to see a significant increase. People who play online /know/ Xbox is better for that, and some will shift from PS2 -> Xbox 360 instead of holding out for the PS3. The earlier launch certainly won't hurt either.
I'd like to see the following ported to the PS2: anything new Cave does (either team), plus Ketsui (unlikely) and Ibara (maybe also unlikely), Homura, that new G-Rev helicopter blaster, Shiki 3, and more of these ports collections. Raiden 3 of course is already confirmed. When all the dust has settled, I think we might be looking at the machine that took the shmup system crown away from the Saturn.

I dunno about Ibara being unlikely, Kiken and I chat a lot on AIM, and he mentioned that Cave might do a port to re-coup some of the losses they've had with this game in the arcades. The G-Rev heli shmup, I think, is on GD-ROM, so that'll probably be a DC port.bloodflowers wrote:People are talking about the PS2 as if it's life is over - the reality is that Sony last I checked, don't even have finalised hardware. I thought that Sony had finalised it's PS2 hardware with the slim-line? At least, at game stores, I've been told that it's "the last model of PS2 that will come out". Of course, just like the tray models, there could indeed be another version(s) of slim-line PSTwo.
But in any case, I too hope for all those Cave ports you mentioned, Bloodflowers! But even if we don't get any more shmups, this will have been one helluva ride-one, I at least, didn't expect to see just several years ago!
Personally, I'd really like to see Sega start digging REALLY deep with their Sega Ages series for the PS2. Quartet and SDI are encouraging signs, but I'd LOVE to see them give the Sega Ages treatment to even earlier games, like Zaxxon, Super Zaxxon, Star Jacker, Congo Bongo, etc.

You misunderstand - the hardware of the PS3 is still not finalised. Bit early to be reading the funeral rites to the PS2 when its successor is so far away.dave4shmups wrote: I thought that Sony had finalised it's PS2 hardware with the slim-line? Oh I thought you were referring to the PS2. My bad! And I agree with you; any funeral rites for the PS2 are very premature at this point.bloodflowers wrote:You misunderstand - the hardware of the PS3 is still not finalised. Cave should purchase the rights to Aleste.

Re: Wondering if the PS2 will get any more Cave ports...
PS3 is going to be backwards compatible with PS2 and PS1 games, and they're not going to remove production lines for the PS2 just because they release a new console.dave4shmups wrote:Now that it's gotten Mushi, I was just thinking about whether or not the PS2 will get any more Cave shmup ports before it's lifespan is up.
This is predictable as they kept producing PS1 games after the PS2 was released. They stopped when, 2003? I still see the odd PS1 game available brand new.

I just wish that the former employees of Compile would sell the rights to their game to a pubilsher who could then publish a collection of their shmups. It's obvious that the people who used to work at Compile don't care or are too busy with something else, or both, to do this themselves, and this way they could still make money, and keep doing whatever they're doing.Zigfried the Trizealot wrote:Cave should purchase the rights to Aleste.

True, but how many of those will even be shmups, much less Cave shmups? Last PS1 game I that came out IIRC was Pinobee-a port of a GBA game.Elixir wrote:PS3 is going to be backwards compatible with PS2 and PS1 games, and they're not going to remove production lines for the PS2 just because they release a new console.dave4shmups wrote:Now that it's gotten Mushi, I was just thinking about whether or not the PS2 will get any more Cave shmup ports before it's lifespan is up.

Yeah it sure would be! I'm gonna miss a lot of great PS2 RPG releases, like Shining Tears and the new Ys game, and Dragon Quest VIII, because I don't know Japanese. Then again...perhaps those games would be a good place to start! I just can't afford classes right now.LoneSage wrote:Nah, I mean if some publisher (like XS Games) is able to port over some PS2 shmups at budget prices in America since the PS2's dying out -- well, that'd be greatGaijinPunch wrote: Budget prices?
