Just last night....

Playing Espgaluda. Been practicing Stage 3 for a week - decided to go live.

Played PERFECTLY through stages 1-3, earned 2x extends.

Milked the shit out of stage 3 boss. His second pattern is great for milking as there are these pods that generate massive bullet sprays, shoot em up close in Kasukei (or whatever) mode and BAM!... mad gold!

Stage 4...I'm feeling GOOD now.Heart is beating faster, palms getting sweaty...my mind drifts thinking about how awesome I am. BAM! Death. Forgot to dodge! WTF? But it's ok - I have lots of lives... I rush forward to re-collect my powerups and BAM! Dead! Again. I overestimated how long I had post-death invincibility :(

Down to 3 lives now...Level 4 midboss. Easy...been practicing...NOPE! Dead. Got twitchy dodging and stupidly ran myself into an EASILY avoidable line of bullets. Again, retrieving my powerups...DEAD AGAIN!? WTF!!!

I RAGE! Slam my stick which bumps my monitor, which dislodges the VGA connection...

BLACK.

The moral? When you are rocking, try to stay calm. Many a player has been struck with the jitters when that scoreboard is displaying never before earned combination of numbers :)

Remember to stay cool, breathe and stay focused. This is when practice habits should kick in, but adrenaline is a bitch - given to us by nature for that extra edge required for survival, it sometimes can betray us as well. Adrenaline is hard to deal with when sitting in a chair controlling a ship dodging bullets, as opposed to ...I dunno...physically running away from a hungry tiger, whom you interrupted while grooming her cubs. :o

I'm done here...just sayin'

I've had a Stage 4 exactly like that.

Then I managed to 1-life the boss and get all the way to Seseri.

I guess the moral is not to give up and get angry after your screw up really hard.

Also, the first time I perfected the first three stages of Vasara ended up in me getting murdered by the Stage 4 boss.

Played Ketsui today and had a great run (18.2 million in stage one, 42 after stage 2) and then my daughters barge in and distract me so I died. I just rage quitted after that.

Had a great 1cc attempt but died on the last boss of Illvelo Wii.
I don't think I've picked it up since...

I have long since learned that the moment I think "Ah, I might 1CC it this time." I will inevitably tilt. Since then, I approach every game under the mentality that I will fail.

Also, I've learned to exercise the pause button whenever -anything- distracting happens =P.

Yesterday evening:

I'm playing Mushi Futari BL Original. Incredible run so far for me: I 1-lifed all my way through to boss nr. 3, with a score around 140 millions, very, very good for me.

Then the missus starts asking me things about credit cards. She was booking a flight and kept constantly nagging me with questions. And I still managed to 1-life my way to boss 3 despite her distracting me.

Oookay, bossfight starts, she enters my room and HOLDS THE FRIGGING CREDIT CARD RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE, ASKING WHICH NUMBER IS THE CVS CODE!!!!!!!

Oh shucks... Boss 3 just wiped the floor with me, rightly after buttraping me hard, very, very hard: from no-miss to game over in an instant...

Ouch.

And no, she didn't get a good spanking after that, I can refrain myself, hehe. But I was mad, really, really mad...

Yep, the Perfect Run Syndrome happens to me all the time, especially if I get over eager upon realising that I'm about to make some badly needed progress/beat my old high score - always a precursor to fail.

Ibara is one of the worst offenders for inducing this state of mind. I've often hit the stage 3 boss with all lives intact, medals at 10k and a score that would blow my current best to smithereens only to fluff it in what could only be described as an epic display of talent.

I always get good runs when I'm not supposed to play. Like my fluke 1CC of Futari BL Maniac (first Maniac credit I played on the port) when I was just gonna have a "quick test". Or my first 1CC of ESPGALUDA, with both kids running around screaming the whole time. What was I thinking.

You weren't placing any sense of significance on your playing and unintentionally slipped into the same kind of relaxed focus you'd ideally have when playing seriously, I'm guessing. The same thing happens to me sometimes.

Haha, a similar thing happened to me with my first BL Maniac 1cc. A friend who wanted to see the game was over and I started playing it; so far, I'd been having a lot of trouble with it at the best of times, not knowing the controller well enough and such. I couldn't concentrate on the playing at all since I was constantly being asked inane questions and getting into stupid debates about things, and suddenly I was at Larsa with 3 or 4 lives.

And when you actually arrive in the last couple of stages on your last life, no hopes whatsoever, and all of a sudden you see you beat the game?
Feels good, doesn't it? :)
