Re: Guwange 360
No, they're not the same thing at all. 4:3 support is independent of in-game screen controls. From what I can tell, it's a matter of the game correctly setting the output resolution to match the aspect ratio of the display so that the 360's scaler process doesn't letterbox it.bcass wrote:If there isn't an option in the screen config to accomodate 4:3, then it's an issue with the screen config.Lance Boyle wrote:I've been through the whole thread and I've played the game myself extensively. There are loads of 360 games with aspect ratio settings in the screen config options allowing you to override what the 360 defaults to.StarCreator wrote:4:3 support is independent of in-game screen controls.

Re: Guwange 360
It's not what the 360 defaults to, it's what the game defaults to. I'm not a developer, but it seems to me the 360 has a process that runs behind the game that resizes the image the game produces to the current output resolution (as opposed to the PS3, which just switches the output resolution to match the game). If the game is outputting a 16:9 resolution and the 360 is set to a 4:3 display, the 360 adds the letterboxing, meaning no amount of in-game stretching will remove the letterbox.
There may be some games that have a system (not screen) setting that changes the output resolution of the game, but to call this a screen config issue is misleading.

Re: Guwange 360
It doesn't matter what the game defaults to so long as you can change it in the screen config. It's really that simple. It doesn't matter if you're the player or the programmer, the issue is with how the screen has been configured (screen config). This is an indisputable fact. Anyone arguing against it just looks silly.StarCreator wrote:It's not what the 360 defaults to, it's what the game defaults to.

Re: Guwange 360
So tell me, why would anyone ever WANT to set 16:9 output on a 4:3 game using a 4:3 display?bcass wrote:It doesn't matter what the game defaults to so long as you can change it in the screen config. It makes no sense to make it a configurable option, it should just do it automatically.
Re: Guwange 360
Why do developers put ratio options in their games? One reason could be so you can switch displays without having to reboot the console. It can also be a quick and dirty method to increase the size of the display without including zoom options.StarCreator wrote:So tell me, why would anyone ever WANT to set 16:9 output on a 4:3 game using a 4:3 display?

Re: Guwange 360
I don't think that's practical on a console that enforces resolution and aspect ratio on the dashboard end - you have to go to the dashboard to change the output resolution anyway, so how could the game change the aspect ratio? Plus, the 360 has a tendency to reboot when it detects the display device has changed when using HDMI (which is due to it detecting the maximum supported resolution and other settings). This is the kind of thinking that only really works when you're dealing with a non-HD console, like the Wii, where widescreen displays are done anamorphically and not by actually changing the output resolution.bcass wrote:Why do developers put ratio options in their games? Which leads all this back to the original point - that the whole problem has to do with the game not reading the aspect ratio setting on the dashboard end and adjusting itself to match, not a lack of settings that wouldn't actually be of any practical use. And the fix should be in our hands in a month or two, so I don't understand why you're so adamant on having the last word on this.
Re: Guwange 360
Easy. Load a game that lets you change the aspect ratio in it's screen config section and change the screen aspect ratio. There are plenty of games out there that let you do this without having to reset the console.StarCreator wrote:I don't think that's practical on a console that enforces resolution and aspect ratio on the dashboard end - you have to go to the dashboard to change the output resolution anyway, so how could the game change the aspect ratio?
Nope. It's not that important that the game honours the dashboard setting so long as the user is able to modify the setting within the game. There are plenty of instances where games ignore/override dashboard defaults. Had Cave allowed you to change the aspect ratio in the screen config then nobody would have complained about the screen issues with Guwange.StarCreator wrote:Which leads all this back to the original point - that the whole problem has to do with the game not reading the aspect ratio setting on the dashboard end and adjusting itself to match, not a lack of settings that wouldn't actually be of any practical use.
One could ask you the same question.StarCreator wrote:I don't understand why you're so adamant on having the last word on this.

Nice. Buying it today then!
Re: Guwange 360
Very tempted to buy this now that the patch is out, but I've heard arrange is a bit average, is that true?
As I own the PCB already, can someone let me know if it's still worth buying?

Re: Guwange 360
Don't forget it has the Blue version along with Arcade and Arrange.

I don't think the patch is out. It most definitely isn't in europe, don't know about other zones.Skykid wrote:Very tempted to buy this now that the patch is out, but I've heard arrange is a bit average, is that true?

Re: Guwange 360
The patch isn't going to be out until next month at the earliest - they've only (presumably) submitted it to MS for certification, and will be announcing a release date later on.
Re: Guwange 360
360 Arrange isn't a big deal unless you enjoy playing novice modes for score, but like StarCreator said, you get the Blue version too. It's worth it for 800 points (or will be when the patch is released).

Re: Guwange 360
I don't really care about the arrange mode. Blue mode is on the interesting side, but it's not like a whole other experience or something. It is kind of neat though.Skykid wrote:Very tempted to buy this now that the patch is out, but I've heard arrange is a bit average, is that true?

Blue mode is awesome, Arrange mode is cool too but is for controllers not sticks (dual analogue).
I hope this patch doesn't take 2 years

Ah yes, I'm getting mixed up with the patch hype!
I'll wait until it's released then and do some reading on this 'blue mode' biz.

I will say that it could've been worse.
Space Invaders Extreme 360 is fugly on anything other than 16:9 -- the window stretches to fill the entire screen. (Though that's only one of several reasons I regard the 360 version as a "porting disaster".) Although, at least you can see shit.

Oh sweet they actually are going to patch it, hopefully it'll roll out close to when I'm able to get my PVM set back up since my housemates took over my gaming area :I

Re: Guwange 360
Just bought this.
It's alright I guess, but I don't think I've ever seen a game with such ridiculously unfair difficulty. It's getting to the point of being stupid by chapter 3, but I credit fed it til then end and frankly it's not even funny. A screen awash with a random coverage of bullets that are unavoidable.
I know people don't like the idea that these games are made like this to generate money rather than so that they are challenging, but this really is just a game that wanted to be fed non-stop. It's one thing to have a fairly slow moving maze that covers the screen, but when it's 3 mazes all moving in different directions as fast as I've seen in any game, then I think someone is just having a laugh at our expense.

If it makes you feel any better, it's taken me somewhere around 8 years to be able to reach Stage 6 on one credit. Granted I haven't given it much dedicated time, just a few runs here and there over a long time period.

I thought these games were ridiculous when I first started playing them too(games like Guwange and DOJ). If you play enough, they start to make sense. However, you may not want to put that much time into them, which is understandable.DrTrouserPlank wrote:Just bought this.

Since when? Cat-spider is a bitch, dojo guy is a bitch, Guwange is really a bitch. Granted the Arrange is easier and the 360 arrange is a 1cc that shouldn't count, but i'd hardly call the main game one of Cave's easiest. DSIIX it is not.ebarrett wrote:Sorry dude, but this is by far one of the easiest CAVE 1ccs.DrTrouserPlank wrote: It's alright I guess, but I don't think I've ever seen a game with such ridiculously unfair difficulty.

Guwange is considerably more difficult to survive in compared to Espgaluda, DS, DS2, Futari Original, DDP, DFK, or DOJBL. I'd say it's right in the middle as far as Cave's games go.

I didn't play any of the Deathsmiles games, but I found Guwange an easier clear than Donpachi, Dodonpachi, DOJ, Espgaluda II, Dangun Feveron, Mushi Futari on any mode that isn't BL Original, Ketsui...... the only CAVE games I found easier than Guwange are Futari BL original, DFK and Espgaluda. Not sure about ESP.Ra.De. since I played it a long time ago and failed to clear it despite trying quite a few times, but by the time I played Guwange I was a much better player already.njiska wrote:Since when?
