Dexter Season 5 sucks

I'm just now getting around to watching Dexter Season 5. Is it just me or is this the worst season ever? Julia Stiles' acting is horrible. Her character sucks, and this whole plot basically sucks. I can't stand her face anymore. Gladly I only have 1.5 episodes left and I can try to forget this season ever happened.

I knew that when they killed Rita last season there was nowhere for them to go with the story.

Is there anyone that actually liked Season 5?

I liked it. The story arc fits with the shows emphasis on his emotional development. I didn't think they had nowhere to go when Rita died because his relationship with Julia Stiles' character is a natural development from his relationship with Rita.

I still enjoyed it, but thought it paled in comparison to past seasons. I fast forwarded through some episodes, which was a far cry from the rabid viewing I've given the previous years.

They still got a few good moments of suspense (which probably works better when you watch them a week apart), but otherwise yeah, I'd agree it's a pretty weak season in comparison to what came before.

And yeah, I thought the ending was just pure bullshit. I'll talk about it after you're done watching it.

Ok. I just finished the last episode. It was pretty anti-climactic which is good, I guess, since I was afraid they were gonna try and top last season.

What a disappointment though as a whole. Previous seasons I was glued to the TV watching this show.But if I hadn't been in Japan with pretty much nothing else to do for the last 2 days (I spent all my money....) I don't even think I would have finished it. I guess all good things must come to an end. At least they didn't leave any cliffhangers so they won't have to come up with a bunch of BS to explain away this seasons ending. I'm still not that hopeful though.

I just finished watching it and I kinda liked it.

Dexter is a sneaky bugger but geez the ending of S5 was a tight squeeze. The problem with all these shows is when the bad guys just don't kill their enemies. They keep them alive for 24 hours more. Its the same cliche's over and over. The whole "big" storyline of S5 started off with Dex stumbling onto something in the removal truck and its just so ironic that as soon as picks up the trail, the police do too.

I liked the last episode, for the most part. Up until the part where Lumen just decides she's "cured" of the murderous urge, and just decides to leave. But not before she stays and leaves with the most nonsensical dialogue ever with Dexter about it.

I don't mind that she had to go; it's natural to expect the guest-star-of-the-season to leave the show on the last episode one way or the other. But in the story, it hadn't even been 24 hours since Jordan's killing, that Lumen feels the need to get away, throwing away her entire relationship with Dex based on the fact she doesn't want to kill - but how could she possibly know she's done this soon afterward? The way it was handled was so sudden, so jarring, that it seemed like they simply couldn't figure out a valid reason to write her out and threw in that last dialogue in the 11th hour. A "Dear John" style parting would have worked much better, IMO - it would have made her actions seem a lot more uncertain and real if she forced herself to leave without saying goodbye.

I thought the last episode of season 5 was really nice. I don't think I could stand another gut wrenching one like how season 4 ended. That had me in shock for several days afterwards. This just felt "right".

This may be down to the number of times I've watched 3rd Rock From The Sun - John Lithgow simply cannot perform menacing for me.

EDIT: Also, Dexters character becoming soft didn't gel with me. I understand the need to humanise him for mass consumption, but it deviated too far from the "fake human" he's supposed to be.

I'll have to check out S4 and 5. I thought it went rapidly downhill after the first season and didn't check out anything after season 3.

I thought it made sense. She was killing for revenge, not because she liked killing people. Once she had what she wanted she realized that it didn't make her feel any better, which is what Dex was trying to tell her before she got involved with his whole process. She wasn't like Dexter because she used to be normal and that's what she wanted to feel again.

She's so much better in Buffy/Angel. Her voice really get on your nerves, so having her nag and complain all the way through season 4 was intense.

Every time Dexter starts acting like a pussy, I just assume it's because the demon possessing him went on vacation for awhile. How many times has he been burned by NOT killing someone? 100% of the time.

I thought so also... season 2 though was really fun for me. Had a good boiling point towards the end. I've enjoyed each season though. It's rare that TV keeps me watching it enough to follow and DVR each episode and then actually watch it that night.
