Shmup MAME help

Post by evil_ash_xero »

I'm having problems getting this to work properly. All of my Raizing games won't work. What version of MAME's ROMS should I download? I'm using MAME 99(shmupmame 3.0), so what version works with this?

Other than that, I still can't get a custom button working for autofire. I have no idea what i'm doing wrong. Any help?

Also, I can't seem to keep the aspect ratio right, when i'm using my monitor in TATE. I have a 16:10 monitor.

If you're going from the latest versions of roms to mame99, then you just rename the zip files to what mame99 expects and move missing files from one zip into another to satisfy the audit. You can have clones without the original rom as long as the clone zips have the files it needs from the original.

As for the aspect ratio problem in mame99, try going to the game options and under the advanced tab, setting the aspect ratio to what your monitor is and manually set the resolution size.

Got the ratio thing working.

Still not quite grasping the renaming of the roms thing.

I can't get Mars Matrix, Progear, Dimahoo, Batrider, Bakraid, Garegga, Truxton II, Metal Slug, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3, 19xx, or Shock Troopers working.

I'll check.

I'm getting some of the other games to work, by downloading older ROMs.

Ill get back to you guys here in a minute to see if that fixed all that.

I could stll use some help on using a custom button for auto-fire.

The games wont show up in mame unless they have the nvram file within the zip. Not sure if thats the problem your having but....If you have an older version of mame on your computer. If you open the folder called nvram. You will find an nv file for every game you ever ran in mame. These files have 2 be manually added 2 their respective rom's zip folder before they will show up in mame.

E.g. ddonpach.nv gets added into ddp.zip then dodonpachi will show in newer versions of mame. Hope that helps :-)

Got everything working now.

Except for the custom rapid fire buttons. Any help from someone would be great.

Also, i'd like to point out, that this is awesome as hell. DOJ, Ketsui, and Galuda? YEAH!

I've spent some time trawling how to get a wired 360 pad working.

I'm not great at stuff like this so any help would be appreciated.

The pad does work and I've pressed TAB etc and gone through the menus but it does not seem to recognize the pad when I try to assign the inputs.

Not sure about the pad but my xbox 360 wireless joystick now doesn't want to work in shmupmame 3.0, worked in 2.2 though!! :?

Gone back to using my old ps2 stick with a ps2 to usb adapter....works fine, although would ideally like to get the 360 stick up and running again!! :)

Thanks, I'll try it out at work tomorrow.

Just for a bit of additional info, I tried changing the .ini file to 1 for the Joystick but could find the particular file mentioned on the internet.

shmupmame v3.0 doesn't have those. (edit: shmupmame v2.2 doesn't have those, v3.0 does)

I thought all of those CPS2 roms were horribly broken back in 0.99. I can't even remember when they were fixed.

And you all know this is coming but wouldn't this have been better in the actual shmupmame thread?

I am curious about this as well. I just started using xpadder to use my HRAP EX on my pc. I found a MAME executable that had the modification to not force direct input, but I can't play the new Cave PGM games on it and can't use save states on a lot of games. If I understand correctly, I can recompile the newer version after making the same change, but I'm not quite sure how to do this.

How do most of you all set up your input for arcade sticks in MAME?

Yes it does. Pick which buttons are pressed in the Custom Buttons menu by pressing numerical keys (1 corresponds to Button 1, 2 to 2 and so on). Pick autofire rates in autofire settings.

I think this version does not recognise 360 sticks for some reason. It does not recognise mine and a couple other persons in the other thread. HRAP ex is only 360 right?

Yes, HRAP EX is for the 360, but is advertised as usable on the PC, too. And it mostly does work fine on the pc, especially with a program like xpadder.

The code change I was referring to, and I believe another poster above me referred to as well, was changing a 1 to a 0 under a parameter dealing with input. The exact code escapes me now, but I have a link saved. I just don't have experience compiling code for MAME. I'm sure with some more research I'll be able to, but was just wondering if anyone else knew what to do or had this same problem.

Until then I'll just play the new version with my gamepad.

The other Laggless99 pro had the same issue, I use the Official Microsoft Xbox360 software download on XPpro.
No issues with a wired 360 controller, but it will not work with my Street Fighter IV T.E. stick.
Works flawless with Laggless 1.5 and 1.5b or any standard mame over 132. to current.

Got a few PS2 to PC adapters and they all work with varied sticks from PS1 and PS2 era. with any Laggless mame.

Quick post just to clarify some very common issues:

-If you have a 360 pad or stick, it wont work with version 3.0 unless you use xpadder or something like that, blame microsoft for requiring Xinput

-Shmupmame 3 is based on mame 99, many games will need older roms, which are very easy to find. Please do not inquire for roms on this board, this is not the place.

-The only games which require newer roms are the Cave PGM games (requires current roms, 141) and raiden fighters 2

-for the aspect ratio problems just specify your monitor aspect ratio in the advanced tab.

-The 0xc000005 error can be fixed by adding the program to the DEP exception list:

2.Choose Advanced System Settings. Further actions require Administrator permission. To continue you need to enter the Administrator password or confirm your actions if you operate as the Administrator.
3.In the window that opens under Performance click Settings.
4.Click the Data Execution Prevention tab (along the top), and choose “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select”.
5.To disable DEP for an individual program click Add, find the executable ( .exe) file for the program
and then click Open.
6. Click Apply to save changes.

You should add this info to your wordpress page, so it can be easily pointed to when someone hit a snag. Thanks.

Protip for people having issues with their 360 controllers:

I've had it for ages, works fine with all forms of MAME.

It also lets you remap your stick/d-pad so you can use it with most doujin games (like Crimzon Clover).

DOJ and Ketsui have a few new roms to go with Espgaluda's redump, which iirc was version 0.140u3. Only shmupmame v2.2 uses the old (crappy) romsets which is why Espgaluda was listed as "not working".

You must find these roms and add them to the appropriate folder or archive.

I'm getting tired of repeating this, having to is the only reason I can possibly dislike shmupmame (every-freaking-body uses shmupmame so no one actually knows what's happening or what happens)... though, with v3, I also dislike the idea of "going backwards", an example being the (PGM) backporting.

Do not fucking use the small-text thing, ever. It's not funny, clever, or useful on any level. Don't force people to copy-paste or quote your posts to read them because they are never THAT interesting (this doesn't apply to anyone specific, it's a general thing).

Okay, you're talking to someone who doesn't know how to us mame AT ALL. I'm not sure what I have to do, if you can explain it without using mame terms, it would be greatly appriciated.

Also I'm using a MvC TE stick but XBCD is not compatible with Vista. So what else can I use? Joy2Key doesn't work either.

The ROM changed. Get new ROMs.

Not aimed at anyone in particular, but this thread would be a LOT cleaner if people educated themselves on how to setup and use MAME before asking for help.

Yo Apple Arcade:

http://redcl0ud.1.forumer.com/index.php ... entry10286 - take a look at this, there's info there for setting up XBCD in Vista. If the controller's wired, runs on the 360 and is in that list of supported pads/sticks there, the drivers will suit your needs provided you install them correctly.
